Found footage horror evolves in an unexpected way: the Paramount horror movie series Paranormal Activity has a stage play in the works.
THR reports that “Simon Friend, the veteran producer who brought Life of Pi to Broadway, has picked up the license to the Paramount horror movie series with the intent of bringing it to the West End via his Simon Friend Entertainment.”
The stage play adaptation of Paranormal Activity is in early development and set to be penned by Levi Holloway, who previously wrote Grey House.
The 2007 found footage film that started it all, Paranormal Activity, was written and directed by Oren Peli. The microbudget feature, made on very little money, wound up grossing $193.4 million globally and successfully launched a franchise still going strong with Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin, most recently released in 2021 on Paramount+. The movies have grossed almost $900 million theatrically, THR reports.

First October 2014, then January 2015, and then sometime in 2016. Paranormal Activity 5's release has been shuffled around quite a bit, and now we're hearing it could be back in play for late this year or, more likely, 2015.
Bloody-Disgusting got the scoop from a source close to the PA5 production that the powers-that-be are suddenly rushing headlong to get the film out as soon as possible. While nothing's been confirmed, Bloody suggests that Paramount might even be hoping to have the sixth film in the series out in theaters by this October.
That doesn't seem likely, but perhaps Paramount will once more give the movie a winter 2015 release. Bloody goes on to report that director Greg Plotkin is a man on a mission. That mission? To get Paranormal Activity 5 in the proverbial can as soon as possible. The movie was scripted by Jason Pagan and Andrew Stark, both newcomers to the franchise.

If you thought that the slightly disappointing turnout for Paranormal Activity 4 was going to have an adverse effect on the franchise in the short run, you were wrong. It's showing no signs of slowing down as there will be not one but two new installments coming next year. Paramount is still claiming the opening weekend to be a major success (especially in light of the film's $5 million budget), but it's an even bigger success when you factor in the overseas debut of $26 million, which is about on par with the last film. They have confirmed that they will indeed be moving forward with Paranormal Activity 5, expected to hit theatres next Halloween. In addition to that, however, they are looking to leverage the foreign market by releasing a spin-off film specifically aimed at Latino audiences next year as well. The news comes courtesy of Deadline, who report that Christopher Landon...

A week ago the first two images from Paranormal Activity 3 were released by Paramount Pictures and now they’ve sent us two more from the film which is written by Michael R. Perry and directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman – the guys behind quasi-documentary Catfish. This latest film is a prequel to the previous two (or three if you count Paranormal Activity: Tokyo Night) movies in the franchise set in the 80s, telling the story of just how Katie and her family came to be haunted by an evil entity.
A couple are pursued by an evil spirit in their own home. In an attempt to unveil the mystery, they install cameras throughout the house to capture the strange paranormal activity occurring.
Paranormal Activity 3 is released on October 21st.

Rodar y Rodar, producers of The Orphanage are bringing us another dose of supernatural horror in Paranormal Xperience in 3D. Come on in and check this one out.
We've also got an early look at the film's poster. Hopefully the film turns out a bit more exciting than that, but once you watch the trailer with your own eyes I'm not sure you'll feel any differently than I do.
There's really nothing outstanding about this trailer, although it does look like it could be a certain amount of fun - providing the film is willing to go a bit darker than what's seen here. Honestly, this looks a bit like watered down Hollywood horror with a Spanish tongue. That's not always a bad thing, but my first instinct is that it looks all a bit ... tepid. Hoping to be proved wrong, though.

By now you’ve already heard: aside from the American sequel to “Paranormal Activity”, there’s also a Japanese sequel, called “Paranormal Activity: Tokyo Night”. Here’s the trailer, which goes the trendy “See how scared these people are? You’ll be scared, too!” route by way of trailer introduction. And go figure, apparently you can take your blanket to Japanese theaters. Genius! (Plus, Japanese theaters are apparently al fill to the brim with cute Japanese girls. Ticket, please!) “Tokyo Night” is a sorta sequel to the Oren Peli original, and follows a Japanese couple (Aoi Nakamura and Noriko Aoyama) haunted by an evil force after it follows one of them back from a trip to the States. See, this is why I stay away from the haunted locales. Tourist, man, they never learn. Toshikazu Nagae directs.

If you love horror sequels, then how about two sequels nearly released at the same time? Both “Paranormal Activity 2” and “Paranormal Activity: Tokyo Night” were licensed and developed jointly by Japan’s Presidio and Us-based Im Global. The two storylines will not be a linear story, but more like parallel sequels to the first movie and definitely not a remake of each other. “Paranormal Activity 2” will be released in the Us on October 22 while “Paranormal Activity: Tokyo Night” will be released in Japan in November 20 in their respective languages. In the Japanese version, it involves a Japanese student who brings a ghost home from his trip in San Diego. This film is written and directed by Toshikazu Nagae. It would be similar to other Paranormal Activity movies of using a documentary style film setting.Check out the official trailer for “Paranormal Activity: Tokyo Night” and we’ll see...

As previously reported, Japanese audiences will be treated to their own Paranormal Activity sequel in December, parallel to and separate from the Paranormal Activity 2 we'll be enjoying in the west. Paranormal Activity: Tokyo Night now has a trailer, and here it is. It's not quite as cryptic as the American equivalent, which people (not least us) have pored over since it went online a few months ago. No mirror babies, floor-writing or dogs barking at nothing, but there is quite a nifty split-screen moment where two characters sleeping in different rooms jump awake at the same time. Plus the spectacle of lots of Japanese girls wearing those blankets that have arms.Tokyo Night follows a foreign exchange student as she travels home from San Diego to Japan, taking Oren Peli's stalker poltergeist with her. Toshikazu Nagae (Ghost System) directed from his own script. There are no details yet of an international release,...
