don't watch it

Don't waste your time. It's 1:58:00 too long. Feels like a telenovela, there's no argument nor realistic reactions from characters when they encounter "dramatic points". You'll have a better use of your time watching student films, teenage students, not even Film student ones, those are good productions.

Shame

Almost 2 hours lost... no good dialogs, too much nowadays non sense sex and not even funny.

Every character of the past seem old... too old on purpose

Good for closing the missing parts of the first one but they could do a 50 minute special and that is it.

A slap in the face to the original movie.
GomezAddams6664 February 2022
This sequel takes place 20 years after the events of its predecessor. But when the original movie came out, it helped revitalize Mexican Cinema forever, because not only did it touch certain taboo subjects that no one had touched upon before, but it also managed to do it with an almost unhealthy amount of humor to make it palatable for the audience, it was above all one of the funniest films you'll ever see, but at the same time it was one of the saddest and most accurate reflections on human behavior when it comes to healthy and unhealthy relationships, and the role that sex plays on society.

This new film feels soulless, away goes the taboo subjects and the humor, they are replaced by modern commentary and telenovela-like twists you can see coming from a mile away, because you have heard it and seen it all before.

The original characters feel like husks of themselves, they don't resemble the characters we all fell in love with, while the new characters range from unlikable to boring and unremarkable. It is beyond clear that the filmmakers tried to put their spin on a classic to tell their own story without bothering to create new characters, and they have failed miserably.

They try to approach what they consider modern taboos, but the subjects they touch upon are so prevalent in media you can even consider them less than clichés, they did not understand the task at hand, which was to honor the past, and create the future.

This unnecessary sequel is neither funny, entertaining, nor will it stand the test of time like the original has, it has however succeeded admirably in earning its place among the pantheon of the unnecessary sequels that will and should be forgotten.

Horrible

This movie doesn't feel like it's telling a story.

It takes a long time for a main conflict to appear, at first they seem like just scenes without plot point, but only in the second half does the story start to take shape, but it's still not totally convincing. The most interesting thing about the film is the part that tells about the son of one of the characters who died in the last installment, this story definitely had a lot of potential but they did not give it an adequate development or a good ending, they just wasted it trying to insert characters that do not have an impact on the plot and that their story does not lead to any conclusion. The inclusion of characters with different sexual orientations and gender identities have no impact on the plot, they are only there to attract the public and for the film to have social acceptance. Most of these characters are very poorly developed and the script doesn't give them a good place in the story. The story is boring, predictable and ridiculous. The film has good performances, like that of José Ángel Bichir, and it also has other bad performances, the character development is almost non-existent, the dialogues are absurd and the sex scenes are superfluous.

It is a terrible sequel, which does not give a worthy story, and despite having some promising parts, these are wasted by giving a mediocre story, without creativity and only to generate profits, let's hope that these types of movies will no longer popular and no successful.

Thanks HBO!

The expectation for fans like me who have watched the first one over fifty times was overwhelming.

HBO did not drop the ball; it doesn't have 20 years of history so it cannot be as emotionally touching right away as the first one, but we'll see in some years.

It makes an effort to fit in the millenial trending scene so it might feel weird at first. But maybe it was needed for it to be looked at in current times.

Just lovely, some tears showed up.
