Exclusive: Media Farm Pictures has made a financing and producing deal with filmmaker and Student Academy Award winner Karzan Kader. Doug Liman’s Air Extreme Films will executive produce one of Kader’s upcoming projects.
The deal come in the wake of a week-long exploratory visit to multiple locations within the Kurdistan region of Iraq, for the upcoming film A True Desert Rose. Producers Gabrielle Allen, of Media Farm and Russ Stratton and Johanna Baldwin for Air Extreme, along with Kader took meetings with Deputy Prime Minister, Qubad Talabani from the Kurdistan Regional Government to formalize plans for the upcoming production.
A True Desert Rose is a story of a young boy whose life is interrupted when an injured American journalist arrives in his small village pursued by enemy forces.

The Baltic Event Coproduction Market, taking place since 2005, is the largest coproduction platform in the region of Northern and Central Europe. Filmmaker Doug Liman and actor/director Tyler Perry are teaming to create the racially charged murder tale "The Year of the Great Storm" which is set during the height of Apartheid in South Africa.
The true story tale follows Amy Biehl, an American Fulbright scholar who was living in South Africa during the darkest days of the struggle against Apartheid.
Following her being stabbed to death by a mob of black youths in 1993, her American parents decided to attend the trial of her daughter's killers and remained to begin a grassroots effort to bring about change in the movement.

Helsinki-Filmi has come on board Abhay Kumar’s documentary Placebo as a minority co-producer.
The Finnish Film Foundation will finance the sound-post of the documentary to be completed in Finland. An international film is eligible for production financing by the Finnish Film Foundation provided there is a Finnish production company on board. Furthermore, to be eligible for funding, there needs to be local distribution for the film in Finland and also a Finnish artist on board.
Sound designer Micke Nyström, who has worked on award winning films like Pixadores, Bekas and Concerning Violence will work on Placebo and the Finnish Broadcasting company will distribute the film in Finland.
“Miia Haavisto, the producer at Helsinki-filmi watched a rough cut of the film and found it to be engaging enough to have wide international appeal and offered us to help in our post production stage,” said Abhay Kumar.
