If Hollywood writers go on strike — a possibility as we close in on the May 1 deadline without a new deal between the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) — the impact will be felt far beyond New York and Los Angeles. Around the world, producers and distribution companies, not to mention non-wga affiliated writers, are closely watching the ongoing negotiations, with an expectation that a WGA walkout could mean a boost in demand for new international content.
“As with previous WGA strikes, we’d expect there will be an increased demand for content from outside the U.S., particularly from English-speaking countries like the U.K. and Australia,” says Martin Moszkowicz and Oliver Berben of German mini-major Constantin Film, producers of the English-language Resident Evil horror franchise as well as German films and series including We Children From Bahnhof Zoo, which streams on Amazon,...

When you’re a teenager, every little crisis feels like the end of the world. And when you’re a teen TV junkie, every cancellation can be just as crushing.
For every One Tree Hill and Beverly Hills, 90210 — two shows that ran long enough to see their high school-aged characters grow into successful, shark-jumping adults — there are countless teen dramas that were tragically (criminally, even!) robbed of that same opportunity. And since you’re probably running out of old shows to binge at this juncture in your quarantine, TVLine has assembled a handy guide to some teen treasures worth excavating.

Former Motive star Lauren Holly and Benjamin Watson (The L.A. Complex) are set for key recurring roles opposite Kiefer Sutherland on the upcoming third season of Designated Survivor on Netflix.
In season 3 of Designated Survivor, produced by eOne, President Kirkman (Sutherland) will face a political reality… campaigning. What does it take to make a leader? What price will he be willing to pay? This season will explore today’s world of campaigning, smear tactics, debates, campaign finance and “fake news.” Democracy, as we know it, will hang in the balance.
Holly will play Lynn Harper, the daughter of a renowned Virginia senator, who is married to Mars Harper, Kirkman’s new Chief of Staff. She desperately wants Mars to spend more time at home – a near impossibility for someone in Mars’ position at the White House. The CW is in development on a reboot of “The 4400,” TheWrap has learned.
Co-written and executive produced by Craig Sweeny and Taylor Elmore, the drama from CBS Television Studios is a reimagining of the USA network series which ran for four seasons beginning in 2004.
In the series, 4,400 young adults in their reproductive prime have gone missing all over the world — some disappearances happened as recently as a few weeks ago, while others date as far back as the infamous day the Soviets launched the Sputnik satellite in 1957. One day in 2019, all 4,400 show up at the sites of their original abductions. None of them have aged a day; none have any memory of where they’ve been. The so-called “4400” must grapple with their return to a changed and hostile world… and also contend with the reality that they’ve come back altered in ways that none of them yet understand.

Before Martin Gero created the popular NBC/Warner Bros. TV mystery series Blindspot and became one of Wbtv’s most prolific developers, the Canadian writer-producer created and executive produced the soapy Canadian drama The L.A. Complex, which aired in the U.S. on the CW.
Now the CW, Gero and Wbtv have teamed to develop a reboot series. The new L.A. Complex will be written by Gero and his frequent collaborator Brendan Gall (Blindspot), whose first major TV job was as writer/co-executive producer on the original The L.A. Complex series. Based on the 2012 show, the sequel will revolve around a new crop of tenants who move into the Luxe hotel in the heart of Hollywood — a ragtag commune of twentysomethings all hustling to make it as actors, dancers, producers or comedians. Relationships rise and fall, beliefs and values are tested, as the drive to succeed pushes all characters to their breaking points.
