May, 1987. In a very conservative town in Tarragona, Spain, Sara, new in the place, attends her sister Judith's communion. During the event, a deranged woman appears, asking about her missing daughter. After Judith's communion, Sara and her more extroverted friend Rebe go out one night to party and when it gets late, they have to hitchhike their way back home, being given a lift by the friendly Pedro and his no-filter cousin Chivo. During the journey, Chivo makes the girls feel very awkward by cracking vulgar jokes until something crosses them on the road. Sara thinks she sees a girl and goes into the woods to help her, but she only finds a dirty and disfigured, very old-looking doll. The doll, a symbol of a tradition that is given to children who have just received their first sacrament, ends up at Sara's house as a gift for Judith. From that moment on, a series of inexplicable situations begin to occur that will lead the two friends to start an investigation and figure out the origin of the doll, leading them to discover an ancient legend that haunts the town.
