Amusing but the idea doesn't build to a satisfying delivery

I saw Melanie Brown in another film recently and saw she and directed a few of her own as well. In this one she is out for a jog when she runs by a set of builders who yell the usual catcalls at her but in this instance she decides to evoke the "challenge" which she is allowed to call, giving the builders 2 minutes to prove themselves out from under. This story is a strange one and as a sketch it doesn't totally work even though it has its moments. The challenge result comes at the end and in the meantime we see the unnamed "chick" having the upper hand as the men back down or excuse their behavior the best they can.

I guess on some level it is a satisfying flip of the tables but it is never really particularly funny and as a total film it doesn't completely make sense either. The idea is there but the writing doesn't make it really fly. The cast is decent though, I found the three builders pretty natural and good value while Brown herself has a very easy presence on the screen and on the eye and I liked her playful streak combined with her annoyance at the behavior. For her it is worth a look as she is fun, but as a whole film it doesn't really work beyond a few funny lines around the main idea – an idea which it never really fully delivers upon even if it is nicely broad as a sketch.
