This collection not only has only the five Darkstalkers Arcade games, but it is also the first time that Vampire Hunter 2: Darkstalkers' Revenge (1997) and Vampire Savior 2: The Lord of Vampire (1997) were released outside of Japan. Darkstalkers 3 (1997), originally known as Vampire Savior in the arcades (which would retain that name in this games' release) was the game that the two aforementioned games' gameplay elements derived from. The three would later have their gameplay elements combined together for the PS1 home console version of Savior, but for this collection all three games will remain as separate entries as they are based off the original arcade versions. However, because of this the previous translated material in both of the previous home port releases of the aforementioned PS1 port and Darkstalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower (2004) which were released internationally, naturally the material from the original arcade versions of Hunter 2 and Savior 2 would remain untranslated.
This is the second time that all five Darkstalkers games were released in a collection after the PlayStation 2 game Vampire: Darkstalkers Collection (2005). However, unlike the former, this collection would be released outside of Japan. Also both the aforementioned game and Darkstalkers Resurrection (2013) it would include bonus content such as an art gallery.
Hyper Street Fighter II: The Anniversary Edition (2003) is the only game in this collection to come from a home release version instead of an arcade release and is the only game out of the recent Capcom collections to use an updated part instead of the original release.
This is the first Darkstalkers-based released since Darkstalkers Resurrection (2013), which was also a collection-based release. Unlike this collection, Ressurection was only limited to Night Warriors: Darkstalkers' Revenge (1995) and Darkstalkers 3 (1997) which the latter was titled as Darkstalkers 3 in the international version (though has no relation to the home release 1998 version in terms of character selection). Like Ressurection, this game also has online play and bonus content.
