A cabin in the woods, a group of kids, and something in the basement. Given the idea that the film is based on Swedish folklore that tells the legend of almost-human creatures living underground, it’s not hard to realise that Wither is an homage to Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead. In fact this is such a blatant “homage” it could almost be Evil Dead 4 by any other name!
Ida and Albin are thrilled to be setting off for a fun holiday with their friends to a remote cabin in the vast Nordic woodlands. But their carefree weekend comes unhinged when one of them accidentally unleashes a mysterious and murderous creature trapped in the basement. Worse, under the floorboards lurks an evil from Sweden’s dark past.

The Swedish writing/directing duo of Sonny Laguna and Tommy Wiklund have churned out a few feature films, including Blood Runs Cold and Wither, the latter of which has drawn favorable comparisons to The Evil Dead. Now they're back with a third, and we have the first look for ya.
Headed to Cannes, which kicks off next week, We Are Monsters stars Hanna Oldenburg, Ralf Beck, Thorbjorn Andersson, and Niki Nordenskjold. You'll find the plot crunch, poster art, and a few stills below.
Expect more on this one real soon.

While taking a break at a fairly remote mountain lodge, a woman and her friends do battle with a murderous psychopath. Not the most original setup, sure, but the incorporation of a snowy element and the image of pure, untouched snow, freckled with blood makes Blood Runs Cold a serviceable flick.
Snow is a difficult thing to capture on film. For my money, John Carpenter's The Thing and the adaptation of Stephen King's Dreamcatcher take the cake. The snow behaves like snow. Watching those movies sends a chill through your bones.

It would of course be a massive understatement to say that Sam Raimi's mid-'80s indie classic horror flick The Evil Dead is a memorable or influential movie. The film inspired a supremely excellent sequel in Evil Dead 2, a widely-adored sorta-sequel in Army of Darkness, and -- in recent months -- has inspired not only a pretty impressive remake (Evil Dead) but also a wonderfully clever homage (The Cabin in the Woods) that has truly struck a chord with the horror film fans.
The flip-side to all of that good stuff is that, logically, The Evil Dead has also inspired a whole lot of independent films that are little more than half-hearted remakes, retreads, or outright ripoffs. The new Swedish import called Wither is none of those things; it feels like a legitimate love letter to the original Evil Dead, and that's certainly cool to see. But after a...

Blood Runs Cold is a film full of rookies and made on a microbudget. And it shows. It’s hard to glean what the central plot of Sonny Laguna’s full length directorial debut is and even after watching the movie you will still hardly known any character names or back stories. The basic gist is Winona goes back to her hometown to stay in a cabin and ends up running into her old boyfriend, James. James and his best friend Carl, along with Carl’s girlfriend Liz, end up heading back to Winona’s place where they are eventually stalked by a masked killer.
This movie is a car crash. Everything, from the camera work to the acting is painful to watch. At one point the camera pans ominously over to a dimly lit stairwell after the lead character leaves the house, naturally I thought to show some peek...

Blood Runs Cold is a film meant to shock for 70plus minutes incorporating some impressive practical effects work and highly spirited performances from a rookie crew. It is certainly about grotesque primordial attacks but its countered by tangible suspense. Theres a moment in which Winonas boyfriend lies on a couch behind him the masked killer makes a lowkey appearance shrouded in shadow. Hes got designs on adding a body to his collection but a quick turn of events postpones that murder. This scene by the way has Carpenter written all over it.

The Swedish horror film Blood Runs Cold has found a North American home. This slasher title will release on several formats through Bloody Disgusting Selects and The Collective. The release will begin this March 22nd. This bloody title uses the standard cabin-in-the-woods formula. Several friends find themselves drunk and isolated from the locals, but a murderer is intent on making their acquaintance. A pickaxe is unleashed and soon this small party is made even smaller. This title was reviewed on this site in November of 2011. The film does follow certain horror cliches. Yet, fans of blood effects and unexplained murder will find something to gawk at, in this release. A review of Blood Runs Cold is here Blood Runs Cold Review on 28Dla and the official trailer for the film is hosted below, with a release schedule. Release Date: March 22, 2013 (Limited Theatrical), March 26, 2013 (Video-on-demand), July 2, 2013 (DVD). Director: Sonny Laguna. Writers: Sonny Laguna,...

Sonny Laguna's back to basics ultra low budget slasher Blood Runs Cold has barely been out overseas a few months (Bloody Disgusting Selects will release in the States in 2012) and there's already a follow-up in the can. Armed with a bigger budget and even bigger crew, Laguna and his team could have something special to show us next in undead horror Wither. Sonny was able to chat with us and spoke on behalf of his production company Stockholm Films as he reflects on Brc and what delightful horrors we can expect in his next flick. How have you found the general reaction to Blood Runs Cold? Our general reception has been positive which has come as somewhat as a surprise for us. We had low expectations when we wrapped post production. Our vision didn't get realized fully so we just let it go so to speak.

Director Sonny Laguna's Blood Runs Cold was released in October from Stockholm Syndrome films. It's really hard to resist saying it was re-released, since there's not much here we haven't seen in a thousand other (and often superior) films. It eagerly employs many tired and silly horror movie cliches. It doesn't just use each cliche once apiece, either. Instead, it batters you with them over and over again until you feel it's beginning to do actu…...

*here be some spoilers.
Director: Sonny Laguna.
Writers: Tommy Wiklund, and Sonny Laguna.
Tagline: "Hell just froze over."
It is amazing that so many first time directors start with horror. Perhaps it is the formula of this genre that draws so many here or maybe it is because there are so many fans of the genre out there. Sonny Laguna is the latest to test his mettle in horror with Blood Runs Cold and his efforts are only partially satisfying. Released on DVD in the United Kingdom last October, Blood Runs Cold is your typical slasher with lots of murder and sparse dialogue. A cold-blooded and nameless killer stalks several youth in an isolated cabin. There is no backstory for the killer and the ample blood effects try to distract you from the film's lack of complexity. Just grab an axe and keep chopping!
Really, the plot has been summed up above.

Stockholm Syndrome Film, the creators of the movies Madness and Blood Runs Cold (acquired by Bloody Disgusting Selects for a 2012 release) tells us about their newest ultra-violent Swedish horror that's currently in post. Tommy Wiklund and Sonny Laguna both direct Wither from a script they co-developed with David Liljeblad. We're told the film is about a swedish folklore that tells the legend about these creatures, almost human like, living underground. It has been told that if you disturb them, things can go very bad. When a group of friends get together for a weekend in an old deserted house, it doesn't take a lot to awaken what lives underneath the floorboards. Patrik Almkvist, Lisa Henni, Patrick Saxe, Amanda Renberg, Max Wallmo, Jessica Blomkvist, Anna Henriksson, Johannes Brost, Fredrik Dolk, A.R Hellquist, Ingar Sigvardsdotter, Ralf Beck, Sanna Ekman and Julia Knutson all star.

Sonny Laguna's Blood Runs Cold, which is on the brink of being released to DVD in the UK (Oct.3), is listed as a "low budget excellent stalk and slash" from Sweden's Stockholm Syndrome Film. Even though the film was produced with a micro budget of $5000, it does promise to be filled with lots of gore, and by the looks of the official trailer they ain't kidding!! This blood-soaked slasher will be a part of the Bloody Disgusting Selects label on…...

Blood Runs Cold
Stars: Hanna Oldenburg, Patrick Saxe, Andreas Rylander, Elin Hugoson, Ralf Beck | Written by Sonny Laguna, David Liljeblad, Tommy Wiklund | Directed by Sonny Laguna
Despite its historically barren filmic landscape, especially when it comes to horror, Sweden is suddenly gaining a reputation for producing some of the coolest (pun intended) horror flicks of recent years – including the international mega-hit that was Let The Right One In. Since that films debut in 2008, Sweden has seen a boom in home-grown horror, most of which has sadly gone straight to VOD/DVD overseas. Now Swedish production company Stockholm Syndrome (very apt) unleash their latest opus Blood Runs Cold on an unsuspecting audience at this years London Film4 Frightfest, with a villain that can only be described as Chud meets Friday the 13th!
The films plot is relatively simple, and certainly nothing new. Singer/songwriter Winona (Oldenburg) decides she needs a...
