Heading into the weekend, it was confirmed that the event would not be held in its original form.
Still, big names accepted their popcorn trophies through video clips, including Tom Cruise, who was piloting a plane while expressing his gratitude for his win for best performance in a movie for "Top Gun: Maverick."

Paramount Network will remain Paramount Network — at least for now — as the cabler nixes plans to rebrand as the Paramount Movie Network.
According to insiders, the rebrand plans have been put on ice partly due to Covid-19, which has had an immense impact on production, as well as the success of “Yellowstone,” which has grown into a tremendous hit for Paramount Network and is now the No. 1 entertainment program on cable.
The initial plan, first announced in September 2020, was for the ViacomCBS subsidiary to focus on television movies and cancel its unscripted programming. ViacomCBS’ president of entertainment and youth brands Chris McCarthy told Variety that Paramount planned to air 52 original movies per year — or one per week — as well as one quarterly “blockbuster” miniseries or scripted series on the scale of its hit drama “Yellowstone.” The network also hinted at potentially spinning off characters from these projects into their own...

Exclusive: Paramount Network is safe, for now.
ViacomCBS has reversed plans to rebrand the cable network, home to Kevin Costner-fronted hit series Yellowstone, as Paramount Movie Network.
Deadline understands that the company has put the plans, which first emerged in September 2020, on hold, in part due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which has had a major impact on production.
The original strategy was to turn Paramount Network into the Paramount Movie Network, which would air 52 original movies a year with one miniseries or scripted series airing per quarter.
Development of these movie projects was originally being overseen by Meghan Hooper White, who joined the company from A+E Networks as EVP and Head of Original Movies and Limited Series in May 2020 but left little over a year later.

Paramount Plus is taking a page from ViacomCBS’s Pluto TV streaming service with the launch of 18 linear channels that let subscribers surf through always-on themed collections of shows — just like old-fashioned television.
On Thursday, Paramount Plus launched Live Channels, a new feature that curates popular shows and movies on the service in linear channels, pulled from ViacomCBS properties including CBS, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, BET and the Smithsonian Channel as well as from other sources.
The themed “live” channels, streaming 24 hours per day, feature the service’s most-streamed genres, such as Kids & Family Fun, Crime & Justice and Reality TV: Competitions, as well as fan-favorite franchises such as “Star Trek,” “SpongeBob SquarePants” and “Paw Patrol.”
Paramount Plus is adopting the linear TV-style model pioneered by Pluto TV, which Viacom acquired in early 2019. Tom Ryan, founder of Pluto TV, was elevated to president and CEO of ViacomCBS Streaming a year ago.

Boat Rocker Studios, a division of Boat Rocker Media, and veteran television executive Jessica Sebastian-Dayeh have partnered to launch the new production company, Maven.
Maven will initially be focused on unscripted content. The company will also seek to collaborate with Boat Rocker’s scripted and kids & family divisions, with an emphasis on female-led narratives.
“I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Jessica for years in her capacity as a leading producer of unscripted projects and her track record of developing ground-breaking content is second to none,” said Jay Peterson, president of Boat Rocker Studios, Unscripted. “We’re excited to partner with her on this new venture and look forward to helping develop and produce original, meaningful projects that tell a deeper story about our culture.”
Boat Rocker Studios’ credits include “Invasion,” “Dear…” and “Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry” for Apple, “Go-Big Show” for TBS, and “Dino Ranch” for Disney Jr.

Paramount+ is set to arrive on March 4, and the updated streaming service has a huge lineup of upcoming original shows to get excited about. Where its predecessor, the narrower CBS All Access, only had a handful of original shows, the new Paramount+ intends to host dozens of new shows, taking advantage of the full ViacomCBS-owned library.
So what's in the pipeline for Paramount+? At launch, the platform certainly won't have all these titles, but there are plenty of exciting projects currently in development or in production. You'll be able to catch revivals of your favorite comedies, dramas, and reality shows, as well as spinoffs of popular franchises, new shows inspired by classic movies, and totally original titles just getting started. Here's a complete rundown of everything that's been announced for Paramount+ so far:

Ink Master and Dating Naked are set to continue on Paramount+.
Long-running reality series Ink Master was cancelled last year at Paramount Network as the cable network refocused its strategy on television movies and mini-series.
However, Paramount+ revealed that it is looking to bring back the tattoo format, which was previously hosted by Dave Navarro, and build on its 186 episodes.
The show, which launched in 2012, sees tattoo artists compete in challenges assessing their tattoo and other artistic skills. Produced by Truly Original, it has had a number of spin-offs including Ink Master: Grudge Match.
Library seasons of Ink Master will also be available on the service.
Separately, Dating Naked, which ran for three seasons on VH1, is also set for a return after its cancelation in 2017.
The dating format, which was hosted by Amy Paffrath and Rocsi Diaz, sees contestants search for a mate while naked. The show was produced by Lighthearted Entertainment.

Somehow, December starts on Tuesday even though it only feels like yesterday that the world was turning as normal and everyone was going about their business as usual before the Coronavirus pandemic came along and changed everything. As is the case every time we enter a new month, though, the various streaming services on offer are adding a whole host of new titles to their libraries and over the next seven days, Netflix has more than 50 movies and TV shows heading our way.
