- On the docks at Central City, workers run as Tar Pit goes on a rampage spreading chaos. Flash arrives and tells the others to initiate a maneuver. First Frost blasts Tar Pit with an ice blast, and Chester tosses town a force field projector to keep Tar Pit from setting off a crate of explosives. Cecile telekinetically lifts Tar Pit into the air, and Kayla blasts him with her powers. Joe fires a neutralizer missile into Tar Pit's mouth, return him into human form. Joseph Monteleone, handcuffed by the neutralizer. Monteleone tells Team Flash that they can't win, and it's the end of everything.
Flash realizes that Frost is dead, and she says that she is because Flash couldn't protect her. She and, Monteleone scream in agony and collapse, and when Flash insists that he tried to keep Flash, the others say that he couldn't and he just wasn't good enough, and then scream and collapse as well. Iris appears and Flash says that he'll always protect her. She says that he can't and then collapses as well. Flash screams in grief...
... and Barry wakes up from his nightmare.
The next day in bed, Iris wakes up in bed as Barry strokes her arm. She realizes that it's Wednesday, and Barry gets dressed for work at superspeed and figures he has a lot of work piled up from their seven-day break. He tells her to say "yes" that night, and speeds off.
At STAR Labs, Joe and Cecile are throwing a football. Chester is tapping at his phone, and finally goes back to monitoring Cecile's neural output. Cecile tosses the football and then telekinetically guides it. It goes out of control instead, and Chester assures her that she'll soon master her powers and be the new muscle of the team. Joe rubs at his forehead and Cecile notices, and he tells her that it's nothing and tells her to go back to work. The football goes out of control again.
At the Citizen, Kayla tells Iris what's been going on why she was away, and that Rachel has found out she's a meta. Rachel comes by and says that they need to work on the filing system, and Kayla tells her that she'll look into it. They go to Iris' office, and Kayla surprises Iris with news that she had a meeting with Cat Grant, and CatCo wants to buy CCC Media. All Iris has to do is agree, and Kayla figures it's the start of Iris' global news network. Rather than agree, Iris says that she left her phone at home and goes
At the CCPD, Kramer calls Barry into her office and he says that he wants put himself up for the position of Director of the CSI Division. Kramer readily agrees but asks if he can balance being Flash with the added workload. Barry assures her that it won't and Kramer starts making the necessary calls. Korber comes in and says that they have a Kord Industries transport under attack, and Barry speeds off.
Captain Boomerang has taken out the transport guards and cuts open the transport to steal the device inside. Flash speeds up and introduces the newcomer to town. The villain says who he is, and Flash tells him that he'll end up in prison. Boomerang throws exploding boomerangs at Flash, who dodges them. Flash calls into STAR, and Kayla there identifies Boomerang as Owen Mercer, who has been in and out of prison. The hero generates a bolt of lightning, and Boomerang teleports away and the field knocks Flash back. Undeterred, Flash says that he'll deal with Boomerang the next day and he has dinner plans with Iris that night. Back at the transport, energy crackles around the device.
That night, Barry and Iris return to their apartment after dinner. She asks Barry if he knew about the CatCo offer, and he admits that he did from a book he put together about everything he's learned about the future from they know from Gideon and what he's learned during his travels. Iris wonders why he did it, and Barry says that he's been having nightmares that he can't keep her safe. With the book, Barry figures that he can. He says that Iris will get pregnant in three months, and will win two Pulitzers. Iris says that she's just tired, and says that they should talk about it the next day. With that, the couple go to bed.
A glow of purple energy enshrouds the bed. The couple wake up the next morning, and Barry checks the book to see if he captures Boomerang. The book doesn't say, and Iris doesn't want to hear about anything else in the book. Barry goes to take a shower, and Iris gets ready and go to the Citizen. Everything repeats from the same day, and Iris dismisses it as déjà vu. No one else has any memory of the repeating day, and Iris wonders what Barry did.
At the CCPD, Kramer calls Barry into her office but now says that she doesn't think he's ready for more responsibilities. Barry says that the book says it happens and Kramer can't take it back, and Kramer says that they're done there. Korber comes in and says the transport is under attack. Barry goes to confront Boomerang, who throws the boomerang. Iris shows up at STAR and asks Barry if he time traveled them again. Boomerang teleports away and resulting explosion kills Flash.
Iris and Barry wake up in bed together, and they wonder what happened and how they're now there. The clock shows the start of the repeating today, and they both figure they're in a time loop. They go to STAR and Gideon scans them. The AI determines composite temporal particles showing they've been exposed to a tachyon feedback loop. Chester confirms that Kord is transporting a Roemer Accelerator, and he figures that if Barry's speed interacted with it, it could have caused a time loop. He figures if they can get their hands on the power battery, they can figure out what's causing the loop and end it.
Barry speeds to Kord, gets the battery, and returns with it to Chester. Chester takes it to the workshop along with Barry, and Barry assures Iris that they'll find a way out. She wonders what she should do, and Barry tells her to go to work normally.
Iris goes to work, while Chester and Barry examine the battery. They set off an explosion, and time repeats over and over. They keep waking up in bed, and go through the loop 15 times. Barry finally takes the battery to the Stararchive and its bombproof walls, and then they use a remote drone to examine the battery. Barry sets off the battery again and the day repeats. This time Iris isn't there.
Iris is out in the living room drinking. Barry comes out and she says that she knows what happens, and she's doing nothing. She figures they might as well drink because the next day they won't have hangover, and she never has to say yes to the offer. Barry figures they're stuck until Iris says yes, like the book says. Iris doesn't to follow the books instructions forever, and would rather be stuck in the apartment than following the book.
When Iris complains says that she doesn't want to know the future, and they would have to give up their free will by following it. Barry disagrees, saying he wants a safe future, and his wife tells him and now she hasn't to worry about anything, and it's the first time in a long time that she hasn't. When Barry says that he wants to meet their kids and grow old together, but they have to follow the book, Iris says that he doesn't know that. She tells Barry that she wants a future with him, but wants to be able to choose it. Barry thought she already did, and goes out to get some air.
Barry runs through Central City, and eventually night falls. He goes to the West house where Joe and Nicole are having supper, and drops the book on the davenport. He says that it's a chronicle of his and Iris' future, but now he doesn't know if they have one. Barry tells them that Iris doesn't want to be tied down by what's in the book, and Cecile figures that Barry is afraid of losing Iris again. He admits that when he thought Thawne killed her, he thought he had lost Iris so he's trying to make sure he never loses her.
Joe tells Barry that the book may have all the facts, and says that the book doesn't tell them why things happened or how feel about it. Cecile says that the future is something they create with the people they love.
Barry goes back to the apartment and tells Iris that he had a lot to think about. He says that the book is a love story, but it's just a story, while the two of them are the real thing. Barry wants to experience the future as it's happening with Iris. He prepares to burn the book in the fireplace, and tells Iris that he's sure about her. Barry says that whatever happen next, they'll do it together. With that, the book burns and the couple kiss.
The next morning, the couple wake up in bed. Barry and Iris go to the Citizen, and Kayla tells Iris about the CatCo offer. Barry looks on as Iris says that she's going to expand her media network in her own way. She's convinced Sue to give her a loan so she can buy out the Coast City Gazette. Barry and Iris go swimming until Boomerang shows up. At Kramer's office, Iris goes with Barry and tells Kramer that she'll make sure Barry balances his position.
After Kramer goes to make some calls, Barry and Iris speed off to confront Boomerang. This time Iris shoots Boomerang with a blaster, Boomerang recovers and uses a remote to activate a nuke he planted in the accelerator. The villain teleports away, and Chester warns that if Flash moves the accelerator at superspeed, he'll set off the nuke. They only have 20 seconds to stop the explosion, and Flash touches the accelerator and dissipates the nuclear explosion so it's harmless. Kayla and Chester realize that they're still alive and kiss. Kayla then pulls away and they both look embarrassed.
Flash and Iris hug and Iris assures her husband that she's always having fun with him.
Later at STAR, the next day comes and the team figures how to shut down the accelerator and break the loop. Iris gets a call and steps outside, and Barry figures they'll eventually pick Boomerang up on the satellites. Kayla points out that Boomerang isn't a tech genius, and Joe figures the villain has a partner.
Iris gets a call from Sue confirming the sale went through. Barry joins Iris, who says that she got everything the book said but on her own terms. The couple hug, and Barry says that they should have a classic newlywed experience and they have a "baby-moon" instead of a honeymoon.
At STAR, Cecile masters her telekinesis. She then picks up Joe's anxiety with her empathic powers, and Joe says he's wondering what's next for their family. He thinks the two of them should leave Central City.
Barry gets Caitlin's alert and speeds up to the lounge, and finds her there. She's part Frost and part Caitlin, and is now a third person. Barry wonders who she is now.
Mercer meets in a warehouse with the stolen battery and his partner. The partner slides a case out of the darkness, which contains a new arsenal of boomerang. The partner appears out of nowhere and says that Flash is never truly alone, but when he's done with Flash, he will be alone.
