Tonight Adam and Cee Lo have to pick who's going home and the eight remaining contestants perform.
Team Cee-Lo Audience Pick: Vicci Martinez Cee Lo Pick: Nakia
Team Adam Audience Pick: Javier Colon Adam Pick: Casey Weston
Contestant: Frenchie Davis. She was taken aback by the song choice but she trusts Xtina. Xtina wants her to take it to a churchy soulful place.
Song:"Like a Prayer," Madonna
Performance: Surrounded by a gospel choir, natch, Frenchie does the disco-fiva, church-soloist thing perfectly.
Cee Lo: Says his soul sister was throwing down and says she can do no wrong.
Adam: He loves her and thinks she had much more command over the song and it was more in her wheelhouse.
Blake: Says the performance is a giant middle finger to anyone who thought Xtina made the wrong choice.
Christina: Seconds Blake, praises her vocal power, and says she loves her.
Contestant: Nakia. His first reaction to the song was "no way." But once he read through he it, he liked the "don't give up" message.
Song: "Whataya Want From Me," Adam Lambert
Performance: He starts the song slow, playing at the piano, in a blinding white suit. The song kicks in and he ratchets up the intensity. He stands and walks the stage, giving those intense glares. It is an impassioned performance that also sounds good.
Adam: He says he didn't know the song but Nakia forced him to like it and he probably sang it better than the person who sang it originally.
Blake: Calls it freaking awards show type performance.
Christina: Calls him "so entertaining" and admires how he took charge of the stage.
Cee Lo: Says his man is going to be the next star.
Contestant: Dia Frampton. Says she's feeling a lot more comfortable. He tells her if she's playing the guitar she needs to rock it.
Song: "Losing My Religion," R.E.M.
Performance: It starts off very folky and light with Dia's guitar and a mandolin and wispy voice. The band kicks in on the chorus. She sounds good but there's a monchromatic quality to the song's range, or lack thereof, that doesn't showcase her as much as she could be showcased but she definitely makes the most of it. She gets the crowd clapping.
Christina: Thinks she's grown so much and is very surprised and thought she was great.
Cee Lo: Thinks she's very inventive and she wows him.
Adam: Thinks it was awesome and a unique decision and he's a fan.
Blake: Says the show just did what it was supposed to do and she did her job and left her heart and soul on the stage.
Contestant: Casey Weston. Adam wants her to do something between Dolly and Whitney. Adam tells her to stay away in a Whitney style. He wants her to be more invested emotionally. She thinks she can by singing about her first love.
Song: "I Will Always Love You," Dolly Parton/Whitney Houston
Performance:In a pretty sparkly white gown she starts off more Dolly, simple and sweet. She keeps in that arena on the first chorus, tremulous. She maintains that softness even on the big final chorus, nice job.
Blake: Says Adam may be hard on her but it's working and every week she gets better and wants to talk about how freaking hot she is.
Adam: Says the performance proves their arguments pay off because she's incredible amazing.
Cee Lo: and Christina: don't comment.
Performance: Maroon 5 debut their new single "Moves Like Jagger" featuring Christina Aguilera. It's a typical slice of M5 slinky danceable pop-rock. Christina shows up after the second verse and struts around with Adam.
Contestant:Beverly McClellan. Xtina wants her to show off her more bluesy and softer side. Beverly's nervous about how good Frenchie is but is in it to win it.
Song:"The Thrill is Gone," B.B. King
Performance: She sits at the piano and starts off with controlled intensity. The band kicks in with some swagger and she leans right into it along with them. She gets up and starts working the stage, she hits some great airy high notes before leaning back into her power place. It's a pretty great performance.
Cee Lo: He loves her every action and every inflection.
Christina: She's one of the reasons she signed up for this show.
Adam: and Blake: don't comment
Contestant: Javier Colon. They talk about him having his guard up and fallen apart record deals but he's going to make it this time and he's got the perfect song for it.
Song:"Fix You," Coldplay
Performance: Playing his guitar he does it pretty straightforward with more soul. They ratchet up the second verse and it threatens to drown out his voice but he makes it work.
Blake: Is mad he threw his hat away since it's going to be a collector's item (the implication is because he's so good.)
Christina: Also excited about the hat and wants to hear a more soulful record from him but thinks he's always amazing.
Cee Lo: Thinks it's a wonderful song choice and he's friends with Gwyneth and Chris, says he can do no wrong. Also excited about the hat.
Adam: Calls him the real deal with one of the best voices he's heard ever.
Performance: Blake Shelton performs his new song "Honey Bee." Dia and Xenia join him at the end.
Contestant: Xenia. Blake thinks she can be the voice in her generation.
Song: "The Man Who Can't Be Moved," The Script (She changes it to the gender neutral "the one")
Performance: It's a nice pop song that suits her slightly dusky, light style. She sounds good but it's not a set-the -world-on-fire performance, a little too broody and insular.
Adam: Likes her unique tone and thoroughly enjoyed himself but thought the song was a little sleepy.
Christina: Also loves her voice and the level of maturity her voice and she loves that Blake is looking out for her and she's one of her favorites.
Cee Lo: He loves how cool and quaint and graceful under pressure she is.
Blake: He knows he's going to hear her voice on the radio and it's going to stand out. He's glad he's going to be able to say he knew her when.
Contestant: Vicci Martinez. Cee Lo wants her to bring out the genuine pain she feels over her dad's death and the fact that he didn't get to see his dream, he wanted to be a singer too and she's going to live out his dream.
Song: "Dog Days Are Over," Florence and the Machine
Performance: She has two big drumsticks and clacks them together before pounding them on two toms, as do several people offstage, giving the song a big bottom end. She runs around the stage as she sings about running. Another impassioned performance as a drumline joins her for the end.
Adam: Loves her strong hair and agrees with an audience member who said she killed it. Calls it the coolest performance of the night.
Blake: Agrees it was the most powerful performance of the night.
Christina: She loved it and admired that her mic pack came out and she didn't skip a beat or lose her pitch.
Cee Lo: He says her future is so bright for her.
