Who's the bad guy now
Howling_at_the_Moon_Reviews19 December 2023
I had this on my radar for quite some time but never could find it as I was looking for "Little Bone Lodge" when the title on streaming is "The Last Exit". I far more like the title "Little Bone Lodge" but that is neither here nor there.

This was more interesting than I thought it was going to be. It had quite a few intriguing aspects and was a very layered story. It had many building blocks that I have seen before but maybe not all together in one story. I think some of the intrigue was dimmed a bit due to its predictability, but it was still there nonetheless.

The pacing was also just a little off for what it was. I think some of that was due to this movie faining as a horror/thriller, and while there were certainly aspects of each, it felt like mostly a drama to me.

There is no denying the exciting twists and turn throughout this story all while being supported by some pretty stellar performances. I think this was on the edge of being something quite cool but missed just a little bit. Regardless, still above average and would recommend.

Good little Brit flick thriller.
Top_Dawg_Critic3 July 2023
This was surprisingly well put together, with great cinematography and a fitting score - a rare quality in B films. All casting and performances from actors I've never heard of were excellent and convincing. Newb writer Neil Linpow, who also played the Jack character, makes his full length feature film debut with a fairly decent screenplay, albeit a little predictable. Directing by Matthias Hoene was also impressive, as he was able to maintain a constant tone of suspense. The pacing did have some issues, and certainly could've been a little faster in some areas, because the 93 min runtime did feel much longer. Nevertheless, a decent one-time watch and a well deserved 7/10 from me.

Not Really A Horror as such, But an Excellent Thriller
fatfil-414-4517973 July 2023
Recently I have seen a few movies that have been put into the horror genre that are really thrillers with some horror which is more to do with the evil that humans are capable of. This falls into that category.

However, once I got past the realisation that this was not a horror in the true sense, no ghosts, no demons, no serial killers in masks, it was a very enjoyable movie.

The acting was top notch through out and although there was a twist and a bit of a reversal towards the end, the story felt somewhat familiar But done so well, it actually didn't bother me. As long as you don't go into this movie expecting Paranormal Activity, or Halloween, it is a suspenseful and enjoyable thriller.

A nice indie thriller that supriced me
The_Swedish_Reviewer26 July 2023
This is a movie to my taste. It was recommended to me and I was not disappointed. The story has some unexpected twists that worked perfectly and pretty soon you realize there are more secrets than what meets the eye. The acting was overall very good and each of the actors really did a fantastic job. I was particularly impressed by the dynamic between the two brothers and their intense and complex relationship. The film takes place during a stormy night which adds mystery and atmosphere to the set. It's a low-budget production but often (not always) they surpass bombastic, big-budget Hollywood movies filled with CGI effects. Another this I appreciated was that the action began pretty early so it's not really a slow-burner. The ending is somewhat predictable but all in all this is definitely a film worth watching if you like mystery thrillers. I give it 7 out of 10 easily.

predicatble but still worth a watch
tony-146-6956262 July 2023
From the first 10 minutes you can pretty much predict the general plot, and while many movies would fail there this one does not. The acting is excellent, and there are still enough plot twists to add some spice to the story.

It is very well made. The setting is fine the camera work is excellent, the sound is great.

It has horror elements albeit grounded. Its horror like watching Hitchcocks Psycho is horror. Some of the shocking scenes are worthy of the movie Silence of the Lambs.

Not normally what I like, more of an Insidious type of guy, but the whole family liked it including teenagers. The ending is also pretty good, bittersweet but ok even for those who like "happy" endings.

Any fan of thriller movies will probably enjoy this. It's not great, it has its flaws but it's entertaining and intense. I agree with a reviewer who mentioned issues about the pacing, this should have been 5 minutes shorter and better edited. It's not a big problem though, this is still an interesting movie.

Actors were amazing. Everyone did a great job, this is probably the biggest quality of this movie.

If you have watched many movies, you will probably predict a lot of things during the first half hour. It's not the most original movie of the world, however i don't remember many original thrillers recently. Unfortunately, i guessed the big twist early in this movie, but still, it was a fun ride. Things got messy and chaotic in the last 20 minutes but i liked that, too.

I had no problem with plausibility here, i have watched way more far fetched stories. It's a thriller, not a documentary. And characters had a background too, they were well written, you empathize with them, even with the bad ones, you see clear their motives.

Watch it without reading a lot about this. Some reviews here reveal too much.

This movie surpise me after reading the negative reviews
hocheart16 July 2023
True, more a thriller than a horror film,(no zombies or ghosts...lol) but...well worth watching.

Saw another reviewer said ''after 20 minutes , so predictable'' he quit watching....... Damn near took his advice ,glad I DIDN'T.

The trailer comes across like countless movies about stumbling into some nut job family , nope a better story.

A few good twists to it.

Pacing is perfect, Begin's telling ya just enough about the characters to make ya think ya know them , then the story steadily increases in detail, action and twists.

As far as acting and writing goes..Everyone convincing , story line kept me pulled in till the end.

{Huge Kudos to the woman that played the ''MOM''} --------------------------------------------------------------------- IMHO There are movies well worth watching ,but only once. Because the twists.

This movie is worth a watch.

Little Bone Lodge
henry8-317 January 2024
On a stormy night, 2 criminals on the run, one bleeding badly arrive at an isolated farmhouse. Living there is a family - the mother (Joely Richardson), her daughter and paralysed husband. The mother has the skills to stop the bleeding, but one of the men pulls a gun and takes control, calling his boss to come and pick him up. However, it soon becomes clear to the men that this family unit is not what it seems.

Clever little thriller - not really a horror - which with all its twists and turns and changes of allegiances bring you with the story rather than just dumps the next twist in your lap like a jump scare. Everyone in it is very good, especially Richardson as the tough and mysterious matriarch and Harry Cadby as one of the crooks with troubling mental health issue.

fine little indie
SnoopyStyle15 July 2023
It's a stormy night. Mama (Joely Richardson) and Maisy (Sadie Soverall) are celebrating a birthday in their isolated farm with Pa, an immobile black man. Suddenly, there is banging at the door. A young man is demanding entry for him and his injured friend.

I like the opening section. Everybody is acting suspicious and nobody can be trusted. Obviously, Joely Richardson is the big name and face. It would be nice to concentrate more on Maisy. I thought that this would be better as a claustrophobic thriller inside the farm house. Ramp up the storm more and it has a ready made excuse to be imprisoned in a five character play. Anyways, I don't like every turn, but it's a fine little indie as it stands.

Worth a watch...
Wikkid_Gamez19 August 2023
Not a horror movie, but definitely a thriller.... This was a decent little watch, nothing new, but the acting was good, the pacing smooth and the atmosphere worked. Maybe it's just because I have kids, but I'm not sure why people are saying these are all new faces to acting because the Mother (Joely Richardson) I will never forget as Anita from the live action 101 Dalmatians with Glenn Close. She also had a decent part in nip/tuck, and was in Event Horizon and The Patriot, as well as quite a few small parts here and there in other things including more stuff parents would see with teenage daughters. So while not a big name she should be recognizable to many.... Now, I realize these parts span the genre's but I guess I figured most people watch a variety of things like I do. Maybe they just never recognized her? Anyway, there were some other cast that I have seen as well in stuff, like the daughter also being in the Winx saga (again teenage daughter in this house lol) Although most haven't been in the sheer number of things that Richardson has. That said, while this was predictable, it was worth a watch. Especially if you like the home invasion type movies where the roles flip and the aggressors become the targets... I do like these types of movies and enjoyed it. A solid 5 to 5 1/2 stars, decent but forgettable once seen. Worth a watch though if looking for something you haven't seen yet.

Tight psychological thriller with a interesting twist
LilyWai20 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
'Thriller' is a wide ranging movie genre - you have those that use straight up blood & gore to heighten the tension and then there are the thrillers like Last Exit (Little Bone Lodge) which use a combination of character development, a slow burning storyline & clever plot twists to hold the viewer's attention.

This is a very tidy English thriller which considering has such a small cast & very limited locations does a good job at maintaining the tension throughout & keeping you engaged.

Nice effort from Neil Linpow, who not only wrote the screenplay but also takes on one of the key male roles of Jack. He has a visceral intensity that translates really well through the screen & his ruthless frustration in this film is palpable. Also a tidy performance by Harry Cadby as his character's tormented but childlike brother Matty too. It's clear Matty has some significant psychological issues but the exact nature of these are left mostly to our imagination, suffice to say it becomes apparent that Jack has tried to look out for his little brother throughout their lives but the path they have ended up on is far from smooth sailing.

By far the standout has to be Joely Richardson in the main role of Mama and what a Mama she is! What appears at first to be an over-protective, attentive but controlling maternal approach, towards everyone, is revealed to be something else entirely as the film moves into the third act. Richardson's experience shows through with her expert control of her emotions only to flip them when the situation requires it...or when she is provoked. Once you realise what her true motivation is all the puzzle pieces from earlier on start to fall into place & from then on the film's pace is unrelenting, plus the ending is a nice unexpected twist.

No matter what kind of thriller you enjoy, give this a go, even if it's not your ultimate film there's plenty here to keep you engaged for the 90 min runtime.

Deliciously macabre
Davidon8015 March 2024
The strength of the script and actors makes this a very entertaining schlock thriller with some real nasty turns. Joely Richardson gives possibly her strongest performance as the lead in this movie, keeping the mood suitably tense and providing a very good turn as a mother who will go to any lengths to protect her family. The supporting cast also give the script the emotional edge that it requires, Neil Linpow and Harry Candy giving convincing performances as the troubled duo, making the desperate situation feel both genuine and taut, also Sadie Soverall as Maisie gives a very strong turn as the ingenue, struggling to decipher the emotional puzzle at play.

An extremely entertaining thriller that will take you by surprise.

It was good, until it wasn't.
DeepRest5 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
"Bad guys meet someone even worse than them." seems to be its own genre, and I'm tired of seeing it. I just watched a very similar movie called The Price We Pay, so the "twist" was very easy to spot early on. The father in the wheelchair keeps making weird faces, and appears to be trying to speak, despite being catatonic in a wheelchair. I wonder if the medication mother is giving him is actually the reason he's in that state? Yep. Of course it is. Which obviously makes mother a villain.

Don't get me wrong. It had potential, and the acting was good. I like the character development with the older brother. When he had to kill the young girl's real mom, that part actually made me tear up. He was the only reason the girl found out that the woman wasn't her real mother, and was able to escape. How does she repay him? By driving off without him. Which led to the dumbest ending.

Mother escapes, and keeps the older brother in the same catatonic state that she kept the girl's father and mother in. Where did she escape to? Just a giant castle off the coast. No way they'll ever find her there. How was she able to afford the place? How does she apparently have a lifetime supply of drugs to keep people catatonic? Who knows? Who cares? The screenwriter sure didn't. I'm no drug expert, but I do know they have an expiration date. Intravenous drugs expire even quicker than medication taken orally.

I don't like movies that fall apart the longer you think about them, and this is definitely one of those movies. The majority of these glowing reviews are false. Look at their accounts. Some of them have been on this site for years, some less, but they almost all have one thing in common. This movie is the ONLY movie "they've" ever reviewed. This seems suspicious af.

While the hunted is the hunter, while the hunter is the hunted
olcayozfirat14 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Horror movie made in 2023. Two criminals, one of whom is injured, come to a house they found in a deserted place. A family of three lives in the house. While criminals first tell the story of having an accident on the road, they become brutal when their crimes are revealed. The family members are not very innocent either.

While watching the movie, you wonder who you will be angry with. Everyone is different. What you call good is not good, what you call bad is not bad.

There are many movies with a similar subject. Usually, robbers come to the house and take the people captive and torture them. The owners of the house either try to escape or take revenge. Here, there is also a problem with the people living at home.

The movie can be watched with interest. For this reason, I think 6 points, which is close to good for a horror movie, is appropriate. No nudity or sexuality. There's only a small hint towards the end.

lets be surprised...

Warning: Spoilers
And sing a little redemption song along with every.bustling lucky hunters in the world, becoming swallowed into the inner guts of a roald dahl shortstory, not written by the man himself but the idea and plot is very similar ,comfortable, humble and always hospitable british mindset, in the countryside, of course i mean...

a little fable about how the foolish fool gets fooled by the revengeful manor up in the scottish highland somewhere, somewhere foggy and duskraining, an actual feeling that you cant runaway from when the weather pattern NAO turns its wicked face on you ( while cyckling 3 weeks in scotland in 1980, without seeing one mountain top, just the lochs that were so freezing cold, with all its muddy pitched camping sites), just as this plot and story, acted in a better manner than most feature movies made by the brits in recent years.

Its not a premier league production, there are loads of vocal acting, too much, search me, but its full of twists and surprises, so the main goal for me , the grumpy old man, was how dire the revenge would become. That, my friends i wont tell, other than giving it a 6 stars outta 10 and a small recommend.

No surprises but made with love
Joey_Fantana28 July 2023
So eventually there'll be some Scottish people in this Highlands-set film, right?... Hello?

Didn't mind this really. I mean we all know what's going on from about 3 minutes in, right? There is no twist, right? So what's left is the story itself and where the characters go with it.

For the most part that's okay. There are a couple of points where I hoped it would zag instead of predictably zigging, and the fourth quarter is laden with silliness from character decisions to cilmactic events to logistical oddities (how much do retired anaesthetists make exactly...?), but none of it made me switch off. Maybe eye roll a little.

Neil Linpow needs calling out here. His writing is solid and his acting moreso. Like a cross between Johnny Harris and Paddy Considine, I would hope this at least propels him into other roles with bigger platforms. Hoping to find Lesson 7 somewhere so I can see how his directorial skills compare.

I really DISSAPOINTED at the ending because he is the one who help the girl and only wanted his brother to be safe.. Have a try guys.. This is a little bit creepy and there is a drama too... I really love the older brother he did very well and his acting is so good... But I felt sorry for him to fall in that situation.. Don't listen to the negative comments just watch it and find it yourself that this is a truly good movie... Ay ay hehe.

Seems much longer than it actually is.
Watched this on the basis of the mostly positive reviews here, I can only assume they are being written by friends of the movie. Not sure if I'm watching the same film, but I found it almost unwatchable. Its only ninety minutes long, but it seems much, much longer, with scenes being dragged out. Not a horror, kind of a thriller. Some of the scenes are filmed in near darkness, which makes it hard to see what is going on. The climax (no spoilers) plays out a bit like a comedy, and you do not really care what happens, just hoping the movie ends and you can go off to do something less boring instead.

Little Bone Watch
dweston-3866930 July 2023
Despite some lazy script contrivance- very convenient having the lock on the wall right next to the tools so the antagonists can cut their way through the handcuffs that bound them, this is a nifty little Brit flick that would keep anyone guessing up to the final blood soaked act.

It kept us guessing..... After the bombastic, overlong summer blockbusters (with the exception of Barbie!), where there isn't an original idea ,it's refreshing to see an original, sharp thriller.

The acting is solid lead by a decent Joely Richardson and young Sadie Soverall (looking and sounding like Mia Gorman!), with able support by Harry Cadby as the troubled, slow young man with a secret.

Well worth a watch if you fancy a dark, twisted British thriller well shot on a small budget.

Last Exit
BandSAboutMovies18 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Originally called Little Bone Lodge, this was directed by Matthias Hoene (Cockneys vs. Zombies) and written by Neil Linpow, who plays Jack in the movie.

Mama (Joely Richardson, daughter of director Tony Richardson and Vanessa Redgrave, granddaughter of Sir Michael Redgrave and Rachel Kempson, niece of Lynn Redgrave and sister of Natasha Richardson; she certainly has some star power for a Tubi original) is been caring for the paralyzed Pa (Roger Ajogbe) with the help of Maisy (Sadie Sovernal, Saltburn) in a home far off the beaten path.

One night, a rainy night of course, a knock on the door brings Matty (Harry Cadby) and his injured brother Jack (Linpow) into their hidden world. Jack has a pipe impaled into his body and is near death and Mama wants to throw them back into the darkness. Maisy begs for them to stay and Mama has the medical abilities to save him. But what's the story with the cash and dead person in their car? And what secrets does this family have?

Jack and Matty have some secrets of their own. There's McCallister (Cameron Jack) after them for some reason. And that worries Jack so much that he's pulled a gun on Mama. Bad idea.

This ends up being way creepier and also so much better than I expected when I saw the name on Tubi. Stick with it, as this has some really good acting and plenty of tense moments. All is never as it seems. I mean, why does Pa need so much medication?

Issues too big to ignore
andrewrye-0653529 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Bad guys take over a house with a an odd family who turn out to be worse than the bad guys.

The problem is, who do you root for? The bad guys or not so bad guys. I have to admit I ended up not caring about any of the characters, no matter how hard the writers tried to make the original bad guys look good. They just didn't, and not even the innocent daughter could redeem this poorly written thriller. Something odd about a 21yo actress trying to act like a 13yo (I'm guessing). The cop recognised the daughter as missing so it obviously wasn't that long ago. How did the daughter come to believe the older women was her mum?? Made no sense.

It's a 4, acting was decent bad story was badly thought out.

It surpassed my (middling) expectations
EtTuBrutai17 November 2023
No offense to Tubi: despite being a huge fan of Tubi itself I was really not expecting to enjoy a "Tubi Original" as other "Originals" thus far have seemed cheesy.

...but this, this was surprisingly enjoyable.

The acting, cinematography, sets, effects, and pacing were all great. I agree with some of the other reviewers that a few plot elements could be predictable but I don't think most people will be able to predict all of them.

I confess though - the primary reason that I gave this a chance was that it was listed as a horror movie with an "R" rating. I do have a soft spot for Brit horror though.

[6.8] Watchable with "snobbish" vibes.
cjonesas11 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
A decent thriller bearing some elements of unachieved horror; The acting, mainly by the lady protagonist "momma" was quite good and convincing, the supporting cast did a nice job too (especially the daughter), it was somehow clichéd mixed with unexpected thrilling moments, felt raw and could have become more ripe and turkey yummy.

The movie lacked smooth flow, real thematic thrill and horror, one of the best amateurish pistol grip and holding with unexpected results and headshots, was more or less turning in interesting circles up until the arrival of the compares, 3/fourth in and what ensued was tragically not believable.

Headshots, neck wounds and "estuary" penitentiary don't mix well, let aside the watching cameras. At least, Matty got a momma of his own and some gravy meat in the process.

Watchable with "snobbish" vibes.

Unbelievable Zone Lodge
orkneyislander5 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
After reading the good reviews I was disappointed in this movie. Too many plot holes to mention them all but not least I cannot imagine a policeman and his patrol car on the lookout for a team of murderers 'going off radar' without the police swarming all over the place looking for their missing colleague. An unrealistic plot with a couple of the cast having seemingly superhuman qualities and able to defy all major injuries. It was turning into more of a comedy with the lead male leaping about all over the place even with bits of him severely damaged - he was more like the Black Knight in the Python movie! Seemed much longer than the advertised runtime.

Tired and looking for a good movie. Then this is the One for you.
grewallucky31 July 2023
If you are bored and have nothing to watch and shuffling Netflix library, tubi or any other platform. Then this is best 👌. Didn't expect but it was a very good movie. When i read the title, i thought it will be like other regular boring movie. But when i start watching it, i was stuck on my couch. Good thriller. Movie has mouth opening turn and shock you. Good acting and new script. Sometime we look around bunch of stuff and found a rare piece of gem. It is like that. Its not top notch but it will give you enough suspense and mystery. If you are looking something, which can surprise you. Then it is for you. If you are movie lover then this is not to miss, kind of movie. Thum👍up.
