The name of the film "Ammu" itself is an attraction. Good storyline! It has succeeded in keeping the viewers fully engaged with its plot twists. The 132 minutes duration passed away like a few minutes. The film promotes women's sense of self-worth, their ability to determine their own choices and their right to influence social change for themselves and others. It will surely attract the womenfolk and the ones who like family-oriented stories. A few scenes where Ammu shares her concern with the police; helping the convict escape from the policy custody; deliberately bringing lunch to the police station when the DSP is present at the station; secretly recording the conversation to trap the Police Inspector Ravi and reaching out to the DSP. These scenes bring happiness and sense of relief to the minds. However, the lighting could have been better or improved in the scenes shot indoor. In short, Ammu is different and is a relief from the masala movies. The director deserves a pat on his shoulder.

A different movie. All the actors justified their roles and neatly acted. Kudos to the director for bringing such a social movie. The cop acted well. The heroine, Aishwarya Lakshmi, also justified her role. Bobby Simha as we all know, is a good actor, has also acted well. At times, we feel, the film is slow in some parts.
When she tells her mother Mala Parvathy about the abuse, she tells her to adjust, telling she also faced abuses from her father, which could not be digested. I could not understand the dialogues between her and the beggar. Why that scene is required. Instead, she could have narrated her problems with the lady cop or her other friend. Otherwise, it is a good movie to watch with family. It's an emotional movie.

What I liked about the movie: They went into the depths of abuse. They showed how its built, how it shows much before it turns into physical violence. They took their time to build and make the characters stand out. The actors, I thought, were brilliant.
They really explored how the victim of domestic abuse feels, what keeps them going through it. The scene where she cleans her house, when she doesn't know what to do and when she's starting to just build herself back up was absolutely heart wrenching.
I was also very happy to see that although the character Prabhu helped Ammu, the whole trap was directed by her. She was not rescued by him. She still rescued herself.
I'm so proud to see movies like this come out of the industry. It handled a social subject, but still managed to keep me invested in the movie throughout. And as many might think - domestic abuse is not a subject of the past. It's as prevalent now if not more - and not just in India, but worldwide. So, I really appreciate a movie like this.
My only frustration in this movie was - everyone wouldn't find a Prabhu. Would've been nicer to see a bit more leadership from Satya and Linny also.

A movie that genuinely depicts the journey of a woman through the tantrums of an abusive relationship and the self-doubt that hinders them from escaping the velocity of their captors.
A wake-up call from all on both sides of the stick.
Abusive spineless cowards do watch and think about the dire consequences before you act...Karma follows!
After thought - The movie is directed well, a bit slow at times where it seems to drag. However kudos for not adding unnecessary songs and sequences to elongate the runtime. It would be great to see other directors and producers coming out with movies that touch on similar soft topics which are often pushed under the social carpet as normal.

One striking difference between other women centric movies and 'Ammu' is - this one is much rooted and the protagonist never speak of ideology (or) is preachful at any place. The character goes through phases and even blames herself, accepts her husband despite odds and many other hard scenes that are so relatable.
You really feel pity what will happen to her when she cries after the criminal leaves. That's the impact of this execution.
The cinematography starts with an unusual dark engagement scene and ends with a brightly lit climax. Bobby Simha's portion really feel good after a long stretch of painful scenes. Do watch!!

We have heard this kind of women abuse in past, But current situations have changed.
Most women today are abusing laws which were made to protect them or people who genuinely suffer. They have started legal terrorism to extort money from men or to settle their personal scores.
Courts/laws, Police stations is under prejudice that men are at fault. Filing a false case is easy for women, where the family of men need to run around courts, stations for bail and heavily invest on lawyers, courts and stations. Even if the case is proved false women are just asked to pay minimal fines and go about their life. Also alimony for lifetime is granted to women even if she is well qualified and capable of earning/leading her life. She can marry another person ruin another family and extort more money.
India has no laws for protecting men who are suffering. We need Gender neutral laws. Please make movies of present situation.
Overall the acting of heroine was good and didn't understand hero's quick transformation from being a good man to a psychopath. Screenplay/editing could have been better. Movie is a bit drag.

Ammu is a women that may be a part of our own household.. .. people may think that it's 2022 and this is not happening now ... the director has researched and a lot of work has gone into this movie .. it may seem like a movie we have watched before and not a new story .. but this not a story... we all ask women why did they not leave .. it's a million dollar question that is super easy to ask a women or a man in an abusive household.. going through with it takes courage that only the person who has gone through it makes when they reach a certain breaking point
This is a must watch .. cheers to our men and women who have made that courage to live and fought in situations like these ..

Aishwarya Lekshmi's acting was lit🔥🔥
Hero and Bobby Simha's acting are also good.
But, the hero's character is annoying😒 I felt very slow and disgusting for the 1st half.
Please do not make movies like this.
Even a psycho have their a type of character, But I cannot able to judge this annoying hero character.
Another worst movie from Stone Bench Productions (Karthik Subbaraj).

I have seen many domestic violence - divorce cases. This movie perfectly depicts the thought process of a woman stuck in the quagmire of a troubled marriage. And also of a man who is clouded by male chauvinism. Both the lead Actors delivered terrific performance. Script is written with good amount of research and so are the lyrics. This movie is lot lot better than (the Agenda movie - written carefully to undermine Hindu culture) " The Great Indian kitchen ". Although it could have been better but , I am giving 10 stars. Keep in mind this movie is from a debutant director. Expecting more from him.

As many of the negative reviews above, this is not a movie to get entertained to feel bored. This is just a showcase of a kind of abuse and this is a movie not documentary to show different kind of abuses in 2 hours time. Coming to story, this showcases the thoughts transition from phase to phase for a women and a husband who thinks that it's okay to abuse cause he got to deal with his vocational pressure on daily basis and still loves his wife. Is he a bad police? No. Even a good and respected person at work can be a very bad family man. If you look into the characters deeply then you will enjoy the film thoroughly. Characters are well written, story line is well thought and executed inspite of minor offshoots here and there for entertainment. Introspection is very important after watching this film. "What we do is not we think we are doing". That slap and sorry is a excellent scene straight out of real life modern day scenarios. Bus stop scene transition was fabulous. A movie for newly weds and abusive partners, which of coarse they do because they love you sooo much, like Ravi.

One time watch no suspense, you will not
Find nothing. I was expecting something different but but nothing came out, if you are watching on Amazon or YouTube you will start skipping the scene as there are meaningless scenes they have added. Also star cast of movie acted well but the story is average. So if you had watched in the cinema I don't know how you spent 2 hours or might have left the movie un the middle. They could use many way to make more interesting but they just shown average that's all. I had many expectations when I did start watching this movie but first half was ok but second.

A very subtle and intelligent take on an abusive woman's relation and journey. Great performances, great screenplay and is always a relevant subject. Loved the movie and would recommend everyone to watch. Movies like this should be made more often as it's always not about entertainment, it's about relevance. And it lived up to that mark.
Men or women, narcissistic behavior is never acceptable and this movie will be a slap on the face of every person who behaves like one behind closed doors. Hope atleast one woman gets some courage to get out of a failed abusive marriage after watching this movie.

This can be called yet another boring film. I cant really relate how the movie started and how it ended!
May be the maker felt to place some twists in the movie but it turned out worst!
This is the first film i watched of the lead actress and yes she did her best! Her acting was so natural and realistic.
Hero also justified his role.
No need to say anything about Bobby Simha! He is damn good as always! I just loved the scenes he was in!
Satyakrishna also played well The story is too lagging and i almost waited the movie to finish all the time!
I am not the one who walks out of movie if its not good.. this habit of mine made me sit and watch the movie till the end! Else no one can sit for couple of hours watching this!

A true gem, finally one of those movies with true emotional and engaging content. On the other hand we have hollow big budgeted movies with no emotional or engaging content like PS1 , it was a pain to watch PS1 and now they are going to make PS2? Any way coming back to this movie along with the story the back ground music is also apt and pleasure to listen. The leading lady Aishwarya is awesome. Was glued to the story with apt attention and there was no moment of dullness through out the entire 2hrs and 15 minutes. Kudos to the writer, Director , actors and all people who are part of this movie. We need more such movies rather than movies with hollow content with big budget and many sequels. Hope to get more from the makers of this movies. Keep it up and a big thank you for making my Saturday night enjoyable .Thank you.

No clue why this movie has a less than 7.5 rating . That's the minimum it deserves . Truly great acting by the lead characters Aishwarya Lekshmi and Naveen Chandra . It's amazing how Ms. Aishwarya is choosing the right stories that the world needs and also giving more than her 100% to it . She deserves more praise and accolades for this movie and I hope she continues to pick such stories . As a woman too , it's inspiring to see her not compromise on the movies and stories she picks . Watched her Kumari movie on Netflix as well and that's great as well . She surely became notable after her role in PS1 , however the extent to which she got to demonstrate her acting prowess is way higher in stories such as this . Naveen Chandra as always has done his best and has proved that he is a versatile actor . He is one of the nicest and hardworking actors the film industry is fortunate to have.

This must be the slowest movie that I have ever watched in my life. Whole movie could have been 1 hour with effective making. But this movie is so dragged and dull that it loses its strength by the end of it.
The story is predictable as you can watch in the trailer. Actors are simply superb. Lead actress and all the actors have done a great job.
Storytelling is really slow and uninteresting. Director should take input from his critics and understand that he has diluted the message of this movie by giving unnecessary twists and dragging it to more than 2 hours.
DEFINITELY NOT RECOMMENDED AT ALL.
