Amy Winchester episode
daphemtp12 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I have been watching Dateline for too many years to count and I've never written anything about an episode before. I watched this episode tonight and if had been on the jury, I would not have been able to convict the husband. I have been a paramedic for over 20 years and have never seen a family member administering such great CPR when I've arrived on scene. That, along with having no defensive wounds and a few other elements would make me question his guilt. This episode gave me an ill feeling about the husband being convicted. That is all. Thank you for allowing me to post.

I Enjoyed The Series
Mehki_Girl20 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
If it is at all possible to enjoy a series about the death of promising young women...

I liked the fact that they focus more on the victims than their killers. Every young man and woman was promising and the best that one can expect of a young person with their whole lives ahead of them.

To a one, all of the murderers were horrible pathetic losers at life. This series wasn't lurid. There were no cheesy reenactments. Family and friends were interviewed and allowed to bring their loved ones to life for us.

There isn't much of an attempt at redirection, we can pretty much guess whodunnit. Lurid details are kept to a minimum. This one was actually different.

What Is This Fresh Hell?
Dateline is what it is and is generally a pretty solid series (despite random episodes poorly thought out, like Amber Heards episode) but quite a few of these have made absolutely no sense; missing evidence, crucial details omitted, facts fabricated, information unrelated/unnecessary to the case brought in, and it's such a forced mishmash of nonsense and it makes no sense.

Someone please tell dateline it's time to cut bait on Canning- she's absolutely horrible- asks the most obvious, condescending questions, feigns compassion with the most obnoxious facial expressions, asks completely irrelevant questions that are so obvious (asking a family member if they were sad upon learning of the death? Seriously.) and just such flat affect with a seeming disinterested reading of a script that sounds like she's reading a script. Stop giving her turns in the rotation, she's not good at this, and she's actually painful to endure.

CANNING RUINS THIS
dotrn-5613330 December 2022
The first several episodes were interesting. Then Andrea Canning comes in with her unnatural voice inflections, in an almost sing-song way and I can't listen to her anymore. Her statements are ridiculous, such as when hearing someone was stabbed 15 times, she says "that's a lot". Please stop using this person in Dateline. Both she and Keith Morrison use that weird voice accenting in unnatural places all the time. It reminds me of the 60's and 70's reporting. I would rather hear natural speech that doesn't make me want to tear my own hair out. Otherwise, I like the episodes without those two reporters. I.

It would have been fine without Andrea Canning. She is Horrible!
gregorybrookfeld23 November 2023
Andrea Canning is causing Dateline to lose viewers like Crazy! How in the world did that woman ever get on TV???? She comes across as a dumb blonde, giving us smart blondes a bad name.

Why can't the producers see how she is destroying that great show? They need to can her NOW! No one we know likes that egotistical woman.

It seems like Ms. Canning is on more and more episodes. So all of us turn to other shows the minute we see her face. It would be good to know ahead of time which episodes they plan to ruin by having her appear.

I have read that she has lots of children; shouldn't she give her time to them rather than spending her time doing a rotten job on Dateline? We only have limited time each day, so she might be spreading herself very thin as a parent, since she seems to be on more and more episodes of Dateline. Someone says she is also on another show.

The First 48 Copycats
dxmr7 August 2022
Your catch line is cringe-worthy. Stop trying to re sell Dateline as something it's not. The last day catchphrase is vomit. Stick to Dateline and your mini titles and investigative stories. You do not need to compete with A&E, and you're gonna lose viewers for the ripoff you're trying to promote.

Incomplete Info makes for Inadequate Story
goodpatron12328 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
In episode 5: "Lanelle Barsock", the show deliberately neglects to include major details which would help viewers to fill in gaps, and better understand the killer's motive.

The victim and killer were not simply friends, they had been lesbian lovers who met in Craigslist personal ads. To the chagrin of the killer, the victim ended the tryst. "Dateline" tried to hide that, and in addition to that willful neglect, they outright stated that it was simply a matter of a financially "broke" and unstable woman being envious of her friend's ambition and success. They claim that the killer was obsessed with her friend due to her own lack, and wanted to assume her persona.

The killer might have been broke, although I don't see how she was easily able to flee to Belize; and certainly she was psychologically unstable to carry out the murder. But not for the reasons of personal envy that the show expressed. The victim decided to focus her attention on her boyfriend, and the killer's JEALOUSY and obsession was based on that. The killer was actually her lover who felt jilted and used. That, of course, does not justify murder, but it differs greatly from the deaths and motive inferred by "Dateline".

There are better accounts of this story elsewhere, equipped with the essential details, that provide the viewers with more understanding and satiation (especially when the killer is captured in Belize).

There are no individual episode ratings or reviews allowed for this series, yet. I cannot rate the entire series, because I only saw that one episode, and due to the intentional lack and misdirection of that episode, I will not continue with this series (cannot trust its accuracy).

A new but very dull bland version of Dateline
cdeanroane22 June 2022
For me this is not one of the best shows under the Dateline franchise. From the start you can tell from narrator description who the killer is. For some reason NBC Dateline has gone from being a current events news show to just who was killed and the killer show. One of the worse narrators is Keith Morrison who tells his victims story like narrating a childrens story same way as done in How The Grinch Stole Christmas.

They did an episode about my parents and made stuff up
ashleyallan-078937 July 2022
Episode four is about my dad killing my dad, but she actually committed suicide. This show is far from reporting and is a sick display of what entertainment has become. They neglected a lot of details in the case and I believe it was deliberate because no one wants to watch a 50 minute show about a depressed woman killing herself.

Andrea Canning
aliciaspice2 February 2023
As I sit here and watch Andrea interview the convicted man I am disgusted. Whether a person is guilty or innocent you should not be talking to down to the person, getting upset with their answers, or talk in a condescending manner. Your facial expressions and tone are just ugly. How can you be a good journalist or host if your views and opinions are biased and it is shown through your demeanor, facial expressions, and through your tone? If you are going to interview someone and you can't put your opinions aside then you shouldn't be doing hosting that show or talking to that person. It's just morally wrong and makes you look ugly. I don't think Dateline should be using Andrea Canning anymore if you want higher ratings.
