You know the saying: "It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt." It's something parents used to tell us when we were kids and roughhoused too hard, but in the context of the upcoming horror thriller "All Fun and Games," the adage sounds more like a promise than a warning. The film follows a group of teens whose night of fun turns very high stakes when a demon gets involved, forcing them to play life-or-death versions of the kids' games that many of us love. Fan-favorite actors like Natalia Dyer and Asa Butterfield are among the cast, and the Russo brothers' production company is on board.
In a press release, Vertical Partner Peter Jarowey called the movie "a gripping debut film based on a high concept idea that caught, and held, our attention immediately." There's no trailer or "All Fun and Games" yet, but the movie does have a...

Would M. Night Shyamalan want to see dead people or would he rather be unbreakable? Is there any chance he would get in a wrestling ring with Dave Bautista? Or sing with Jonathan Groff? As his new film “Knock at the Cabin” poses an impossible dilemma, Variety asked the filmmaker to play a quick round of “Would You Rather?” with questions set in the universe of his previous films.
As for whether Shyamalan would rather see a film of his gross 500 million or win 12 Academy Awards, the filmmaker doesn’t hesitate.

As everyone who’s made it through all of Netflix’s “Squid Game” can report, there’s just something utterly compelling about getting to watch characters being put through the ringer on a repeated basis, especially when that ringer gets worse and worse each and every time. Whether or not the appeal of the show is discovering which child’s game has been bastardized into a cruel death trap this episode, or simply witnessing the emotional torture of those desperately in debt purely for the entertainment of the wealthy and corrupt — or, you know, we the television audience, but don’t think about that too much — the show has become a phenomenon (and...

It would be naive to think the production shutdowns persisting across Hollywood wouldn’t also affect the output of independent artists, and the 2021 Sundance lineup has borne that unfortunate reality out. This year’s virtual event remains an ambitious undertaking — one more in line with the festival’s adventurous, experimental roots than its current trend-setting, Oscar-baiting footprint — but there are fewer films, and yes, fewer series, too. In its fourth year featuring a section dedicated to serialized stories and indie TV pilots, Sundance 2021 has just four shows in its newly titled Indie Series lineup: “4 Feet High,” “Seeds of Deceit,” “These Days,” and “Would You Rather.” That’s exactly half the total in last year’s Indie Episodic program and in line with the 40 percent drop in overall festival offerings.
Other TV-friendly options are scattered throughout the festival’s 11 categories, including “Philly D.A.,” a docuseries on civil rights attorney Larry Krasner...

Jimmy Kimmel doesn't always ask serious questions. Sometimes, his questions are downright silly, and sometimes those silly questions are intentional. During a new edition of "3 Ridiculous Questions," the Jimmy Kimmel Live host asked Awkwafina three questions he'd never ask during his regular talk-show. And of course, the Ocean's 8 actress' answers were even funnier than the questions. First up was a "Would You Rather" kind of scenario. As Kimmel asked, "If you could only have one of them on a deserted island: antelope or cantaloupe?" Her response? "Definitely antelope," The Farewell star replied. What is it about dashed expectations that breed singer-songwriters? As the Sixties dream cratered, a golden era peaked in Laurel Canyon — think Joni, Jackson, Sweet Baby James — with a tendency towards wistful solipsism. Now, a new one is blooming as the American experiment contemplates its doom. Father John Misty’s cosmic snark, Mitski’s aching character studies, Kurt Vile’s transcendent vagueness — all of them offer strangely comforting proof that hopelessness springs eternal.
