'Phineas and Ferb' was one of the few Disney Channel shows in (relatively) recent years that was watched by me and my siblings, also Disney fans, since its inception and continued to watch completely hooked, the re-runs being holiday highlights. That's no joke. The earlier episodes are better than the later ones, funnier and more creative, but even when the show was not at its best it was better than quite a lot of the shows airing on Disney Channel, which has not been the same it used to be for years, at the time.
Neither "Skiddley Whiffles" and "Tour de Ferb" are among my favourite episodes of 'Phineas and Ferb'. They are still both very well done episodes, that contains pretty much everything that makes the show so great. If there is a preference regarding which episode is better, my vote would be "Skiddley Whiffles" marginally, it has the more inspired concept, has more entertainment value and has more heart. As said though, both episodes are well worth watching.
Would have liked a little more variety in "Tour de Ferb", which is entertaining and always interesting, with the spirit of cycling handled with excitement, if on the formulaic and standard side rather than the setting. While Doofenschmirtz's subplot is wonderfully wacky and a lot of fun, it is not much different from most Doofenschmirtz subplots.
"Skiddley Whiffles" is excellent though and does have the variety that isn't always there in "Tour de Ferb". Really liked how different Doofenschmirtz's subplot is, it had a lot of heart and is relatable without being soapy. Loved seeing a more sympathetic and helpful side to Perry, and it was a different dynamic for the duo. Candace in moral conflict is always well done and brings dimension to her character and it does here.
Am now going to come on to the individual elements. The animation is bright and colourful, with such vibrant colours that literally pop out at you and beautifully detailed backgrounds. The music is in the style that is not usually my style of choice when listening to music, but it is very catchy and pleasant to listen to. The theme song is irresistible with a melody that sticks in the head for days without being an earworm and with very quotable lyrics.
Writing is spot on, while the character writing and interaction is neither bland or annoying and the voice work fits every character like a glove. Dan Povenmire always sounds like he was having a blast as Doofenschmirtz.
On the whole, very well done. 8.5/10.
