Netflix seems to dominate the documentary scene with its banger docs attracting the attention of millions around the world. You can recall the recent success of What Jennifer Did, the shocking film that reigned supreme in the platform’s chart for weeks.
More than that, these days the top is dominated by another doc, Ashley Madison: Sex, Lies & Scandal, and it even managed to dethrone Netflix’s biggest hit of 2024 so far, Baby Reindeer. It all makes the documentary coming to the platform much more anticipated.
The upcoming movie revolves around Miranda Derrick, a dancer whose hype on social media is hard to overestimate. While her viral videos and sleek photos gain millions of likes on TikTok and Instagram, her life behind the camera seems to be much darker than those images.
Back in 2022, her sister Melanie, also a TikTok performer, and her parents Kelly and Dean made public...

Sister Wives Season 18 is expected to drop in September 2023. Here are five shows about polygamy that Sister Wives fans may enjoy while waiting for the new season.
The Brown family | TLC/discovery+ ‘Escaping Polygamy’
Unlike Sister Wives, Escaping Polygamy gives fans an honest look at what it’s like to leave polygamy and their families behind without any support from the outside world. This gritty Lifetime series aims to show the harsh realities of leaving a religious cult following three sisters, Andrea, Jessica, and Shanell.
The sisters, all born to the same father, John Daniel Kingston, escaped the family’s polygamist cult known as The Kingston clan, or ‘The Order.’ It is known to be one of the most secretive and dangerous sects of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Flds).
After getting free, the girls help their loved ones and strangers to get free from the grips of polygamy.

The Brown family became the poster children of polygamy after Sister Wives premiered in 2010. The family tried to convince the world that not all fundamentalist Mormon sects have child brides like Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Flds) leader Warren Jeffs.
Kody and his wives adamantly denied their church allows practices of underage marriage, child abuse, and incest. However, Christine Brown’s grandfather and Apostolic United Brethren (Aub) leader had many child brides.
Kody Brown and Christine Brown, ‘Sister Wives’ | TLC Kody Brown denies the Aub allows underage brides.
As documented on Netflix’s docuseries, Keep Sweet: Pray and Obey, in 2011, Jeffs was sentenced to life plus 20 years in prison for two counts of sexual assault of a child. He is said to have at least 70 wives. Of those, 24 of his wives were underage when he married them, some as young as 12. He is currently serving his life...

Courtney Sexton, the SVP of CNN Films, is exiting the company after nine years amid word that the news network would scale back its original documentary films and series commissioned from third parties. She will soon rejoin Participant to lead its documentary content.
Sexton will serve as executive vice president of documentary film and television at Participant, overseeing all of its nonfiction storytelling. Before joining CNN, Sexton spent eight years as a development executive at Participant. She’ll return to the company at the start of 2023 and report directly to CEO David Linde.
Last month, new CNN boss Chris Licht announced that, as part of cost-saving measures, long-form documentary films and series coming from external sources would be no more. That includes many acclaimed and award-winning documentaries for which Sexton was directly responsible: including films like “Rbg,” “Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain,” “Three Identical Strangers,” and this year’s “Navalny.

“Stranger Things” continues to rule in its third week of availability, as Nielsen’s latest Top 10 streaming rankings — for the week of June 13 through June 19 — showed it on top of the charts with nearly 3 billion minutes of viewing.
As the binge subsides, that’s a dip from the previous week’s 4.2 billion minutes (and week one’s 7.2 billion minutes broke Nielsen’s record for the most-viewed title in a single week). It’s sure to continue to come back down to earth — until measurement begins to include viewership of the show’s final two episodes, which dropped on July 1. That’s likely to rocket the show back up — thanks to Volume 2’s combined four hours.
As previously noted, included in Nielsen’s measurement of the week are the nine hours that make up Season 4 Volume 1, which debuted May 27 on Netflix, as well as all three previous seasons.
Meanwhile, rocketing to No.

Stranger Things remained a clear No. 1 in the streaming rankings for the fourth straight week, but a new show took the second spot overall.
Peaky Blinders ascended to the No. 2 slot following the release of its final season on Netflix (it’s a BBC show in the U.K. but a Netflix original in the United States). The period crime drama had 904 million minutes of viewing time for the week of June 13-19, up 42 percent from 635 million the previous week. That’s the best showing Peaky Blinders has had in the 22 months Nielsen has been releasing weekly rankings.
The previous second-place finisher, The Boys, declined some to 795 million minutes of watch time (vs. 919 million a week earlier). That was still good for third among original series, ahead of Obi-Wan Kenobi on Disney+ (733 million minutes). The Melissa McCarthy-Ben Falcone comedy God’s Favorite Idiot debuted...

“Stranger Things” continues to be the dominant show of the summer.
Numbers from Nielsen came in on Thursday, showing that Season 4, Part 1, which was released on May 27, had over 2 billion minutes viewed for the week of June 13-19. It was the show’s fourth week at the top of the charts, and almost a third of its audience — 27 — was in the 18-34 age range.
“Peaky Blinders,” the British West Midlands-based gangster show, landed the No. 2 spot with its sixth and final season. It had 904 million minutes viewed, though its biggest audience base was viewers between 50-64. They made up 26 of the overall watchers.

Stranger Things viewing dropped 41 in its second full week with the bulk of Season 4 available on Netflix, but still dominated the Nielsen streaming chart for June 6 to 12.
The supernatural phenomenon drew more than 4.2 billion minutes of streaming, down from the previous period’s all-time record. It will likely register a bump again on Nielsen’s list once the final two episodes of Season 4 are captured in the numbers. Nielsen measures Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, Disney+, Apple TV+ and HBO Max, reporting figures only for the U.S. and after about a month’s delay.
Nielsen’s accounting comes well after Netflix’s own self-reported figures, which look at the global picture rather than just the U.S. Earlier this week, the streaming giant said Stranger Things topped 1 billion hours of total streaming, joining Squid Game as one of just two shows above that mark.

The Boys rose to second place in Nielsen’s streaming series rankings by barely moving at all in terms of its viewing time.
Stranger Things dominated the rankings for the week of June 6-12 despite a sizable drop from its record-breaking tally, while Ms. Marvel had a relatively quiet debut on Disney+ (at least compared to other Marvel series).
The Boys drew 919 million minutes of watch time in the United States on Amazon’s Prime Video — a scant 3 percent decline from the previous week, when it had 949 million minutes of viewing. With two shows that finished ahead of it a week earlier — The Lincoln Lawyer (683 million minutes) and Obi-Wan Kenobi (682 million) — both falling by about 29 percent, The Boys took second place among original streaming series.

Last week’s showing of 7.2 billion minutes broke Nielsen’s record for the most-viewed title in a single week. No. 2 and No. 3 on the list of most successful streaming weeks are “Tiger King” and “Ozark,” respectively, both having become the first titles to break 5 billion minutes in March 2020. No. 4 is the performance of “Stranger Things” the week of May 23-29, during which Season 4 was only available for three days. According to data newly released by Netflix, Season 4 “Stranger Things” was viewed for 883.3 million hours between its May 27 debut and June 19. It became the streamer’s most popular English-language season of all time last week, breaking the record previously set by “Bridgerton” Season 2, but has not yet usurped South Korean drama “Squid Game” to become the most popular season overall. Netflix calculates its Most Popular list based on hours viewed during a title’s first 28 days of availability, and “Squid Game” sits in the No. 1 position with over 1.6 billion hours viewed. Given that the most recent numbers account for 24 days of viewing, it’s presumable that “Stranger Things” Season 4 won’t be able to beat “Squid Game” just yet.
But the show is still running up that hill. The two episodes that make up Volume 2 of “Stranger Things” Season 4 will debut on July 1, resetting the clock so that the season...

It was yet another record-breaking week for Season 4 of “Stranger Things,” which has become Netflix’s most popular season of an English-language television series ever.
Netflix’s list of most popular titles is calculated based on viewership during a title’s first 28 days of availability, and “Stranger Things” Season 4 has been viewed for 781 million hours since its May 27 debut, breaking the record previously held by the second season of “Bridgerton.” Along with being the most popular among English-language title, it’s the second most popular Netflix series overall, second only to the 2021 South Korean drama “Squid Game.”
Though “Stranger Things” undoubtedly continues to succeed, its single-week viewing is beginning to decrease. Last week, the season set the record for most-viewed English-language show in a week with 335 million hours viewed, and according to Netflix’s newly released Top 10 rankings, that number fell to 159.2 million hours during the June 6-12 viewing window.
