- TriviaThe 'Jedi fortune cookie' message that opens the show reads "Who's the more foolish, the fool or the fool who follows him?" This is a direct quote from Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977) where Obi-Wan Kenobi says this to Han Solo while planning their escape from the Death Star.

The Wizard of Odd
This follows a run of 5 previous episodes from the start of Season 4 which were basically lightweight fillers and this makes it 6 in a row. It is really not a problem to put some lighthearted episodes in amongst the superb more serious stuff but 6 in a row is a bit of a shame and became a drag for me making me impatient and grumpy in my reaction.
Also, sadly, I think this is one of the weakest of the 6 episodes that gave an underwhelming beginning to what turned out to be an otherwise great Season 4.
This is simply not Star Wars at all for most of the adventure. It is pure children's fantasy adventure copying aspects of The Wizard of Oz and Gulliver's Travels as well as pirate adventures.
I find it a bit strange that they feel the need to create fillers in the series by going off at such odd tangents and taking us out of the Star Wars world so carefully created in the majority of the franchise. Yes Star Wars is fantasy and this is just a bit of fun but I just think there is no need for such jarring comedy-fantasy diversions. It is not what I would do to entertain child viewers, I would just give them fun space battles and lightsaber and gun fights.
However, although this is irrelevant to the Star Wars universe and rather silly, it is quite charming in parts and has a few plus points.
The start and end are good as we see Grievous and his separatist forces clashing with Jedi and republic forces in a normal Clone Wars way. So those start and end scenes are a definite plus for me.
In between is a pure fantasy, comedic adventure that is pretty bizarre but certainly not awful. It is very much for young kids and is just a bit of fun. C3PO and R2D2 are charming characters so they carry the strange story and stop it being terrible.
The animation is nice and it is a harmless, well meaning, light hearted homage to adventures which influenced George Lucas.
This is absolutely not what I want from Clone Wars which is usually quite serious, high quality addition to the Star Wars saga. I wish Lucasfilm had made a separate show purely for kids - like the 80s cartoon Droids - and kept Clone Wars for the more serious storytelling but instead they mix occasional child oriented, comedy fillers in with the more dramatic Clone Wars stuff. I have to accept that as it is a family show and a bit of variety of story type is reasonable.
It is not great at all but not bad for kids and thank goodness the next episode marks a return to the great, serious Clone Wars storytelling I love.
My rating: 5/10.
