"Trying My Best to Love You" is a fantastic short film by director Ryan Estabrooks. This is his debut film and overall, I was very impressed. Mr. Estabrooks not only directed the film, but starred in it, too! The story line is about a man, Robert, that is seriously down on his dating luck. He was cheated on by his girlfriend…and then she dumped him. Robert tells his woes to his best friend, Callie, played by Caitlin Corbitt. Callie is understanding and sweet, but she tells Robert in no uncertain terms why he has been failing. What follows is Robert's sometimes sweet, sometimes uncomfortable attempts to get the girl. This film really lets you feel what the characters are feeling. When Robert shows up wearing exactly what Callie told him to wear and tries to induce her to go on a date "because he's got chocolates in the car", you feel exactly how awkward he is at this point. However, things smooth out and you are genuinely happy about the ending. I have two favorite parts of this film. For one, the color scheme of this film is phenomenal. The hues are impossibly bright. I love it! Secondly, there is a music video filled with amazing art work that really takes the film from good to worth seeing again. I can't recommend it highly enough.
