The third episode of Tulsa King is out now, and it is FANTASTIC. All of the characters, especially Dwight, are very well-rounded and interesting, as is the plot.
Starting off with Stacy and the ATF dealing with a bomber, who didn't kill his dogs, which was a good thing, was exciting. Originally, I didn't really like her character, but now I do! I could tell right after the house blew up that something bad had happened in her past, based on her facial expression.
I love that Dwight brought his own REAL coffee cup to the coffee shop, and that he got to see that beautiful white horse again. His waitress told him the horse's name, and how it escapes from the stable often, which was how Dwight felt.
His driving test started out humorous and turned deadly really quick. That guy, who was afraid Dwight was out to get him in the previous episode took it upon himself to take "The General" out and failed miserably. I mean, come on. Dwight may have been in jail for a while, but he certainly didn't lose his street smarts! (Or his book smarts, for that matter.) Of course, he'd know when someone was about to shoot him, and also how to give chase.
Using the driving instructor's blood to write the partial plate number on the car windshield was ingenious, and funny too, with how whiny the guy was. It wasn't like he was actually dying!
I really enjoyed it when the local police were grilling Dwight about the accident. He was so calm, and cool, and collected, and wanted them to know he believed that someone was after the instructor, not him, because that guy looked like he failed a lot of people.
Stacy showing up was a great touch. She heard his name come up along with the word "shooting" and came to see what was up, not just because of her job, but because she really did like him, despite everything.
Dwight buying her dinner at a classy establishment was so sweet, and I loved that he got her story out of her, without much of a fight, because she could tell that he was a good listener and wasn't going to judge her. In fact, she realized, as did he, that they really were pretty similar.
I totally hadn't expected them to engage in another romantic rendezvous, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't happy about it. Dwight looked so cute and proud of himself, lounging on the bed in his white bathrobe and undershirt, when Stacy was leaving and claiming that what had happened overnight "Cannot and will not happen again." Yeah, right. The fact that they both went into it knowing who the other was, and what sides of law enforcement they were on, and how old they were, makes me think that it probably WILL happen again, since they both seem to need each other more than not. Which I love!
Tyson is way over his head, even if he doesn't realize it yet. He should have taken Dwight's payout, and gone home, but he didn't and instead decided to start rehearsing what he'd say to the guy who tried to kill Dwight, once they found him. His dad overheard him, and I can't imagine he's going to be too happy about that. Whoops.
The ranch was very pretty, but the owner did not buy Dwight's "private investigator" story and wouldn't let him snoop around. That didn't stop him from loitering just outside the ranch, waiting for the guy whom he believed tried to kill him.
When said guy comes out, Dwight follows him home, and then Stacy calls. She took in one of the dogs that the bomber hadn't killed, that mustn't have been taken by the pound, and wanted Dwight to know. How cute is it, that merely a week after their tense tete a tete in his hotel room, she's calling him to tell him she got a dog and sounding bummed out when he can't come and see her? I liked that he sensed she was upset, and continued talking to her, asking her what the dog's name was, etc., because it showed yet again how much of a gentleman Dwight was.
Seeing that the guy who tried to kill him has a kid made Dwight pause, and not get out of his new car (that he had Tyson get him for free, since the other one the dealer sold him was a lemon, according to Dwight, because it had bullet holes all over it.) and shoot him right then and there. Now he has to re-evaluate and come up with a new strategy. But that's an angle for next time.
Overall, I've thoroughly loved the first three episodes of the series, and simultaneously can't wait for another one, and wish for it to be delayed so that the season isn't over too quickly.
What's going to happen with Dwight's new business idea, to partner with the owner of the bar, and make tons of money on Nitrous oxide? How far will Stacy and Dwight's relationship go before the ATF finds out she's been canoodling with a former criminal? Will we ever know why that guy is not only terrified of Dwight but wants to kill him too? All of these questions will be answered, but to quote the WALK sign from the second episode, we'll have to "WAIT!"
