That's Not A Wire!
douglasmcbroom18 December 2022
Things have changed with last week's absolutely terrific episode. Tulsa King has gone from being a comedy with a little drama thrown in, to being a drama with some comedy, like The Sopranos. It's a very good move. They have also added more music and that's also a welcomed development.

Stallone continues to be outstanding as his character navigates what is now a turf war both in Tulsa and New York, with newly added attention from the FBI. Dwight 'The General' Manfredi truly appears to be between a rock and a hard place.

This week Mitch Keller (Garrett Hedlund) stepped into the spotlight and it appears he will be much more involved in the plot. Also, a good development.

Great Addition to the Dwightverse

Warning: Spoilers
Pete's crime family don't know what to do about Dwight, they're divided. Pete is right though, Tina is innocent, this is between them and Dwight now. ''This was justifiable vengeance'', well said Dwight. Dwight feels responsible for what happened to Tina and that makes sense. ATF wants to involve the FBI? If the FBI gets involved the whole situation could get out of control. Wait has the FBI wiretapped the mafia family? Wow. I can't understand if Stacy is more concerned about Dwight or herself? Could be both, she still has feelings for him, that's obvious...

Dwight going to Siberia? Yeah that ain't happening haha. Oh boy the FBI is here, things are about to get real. Dwight destroyed Waltrip with words, love it. Bodhi thought he lost everything but Dwight seems to always have a backup plan, love it. Also I love how much he cares about his crew, he is like a father figure to them, great chemistry and amazing characters. Dwight has a code, he doesn't help the police, you gotta respect that. Why would they attack Tina's husband? Does Pete know about this? Im sure he wouldn't approve of this. That's nonsense. Wow what was that ending? Killing Waltrip's guy?

Things are about to get crazy! Another great addition to the Dwightverse. My rating is 8.3/10.

Very good show / episode 10

Not sure if first try went through - very good episode - Stallone is so good in whatever mode he is in and to whomever he is talking to - the scene with the Irish motorcycle chief in their summit - Dwight wasn't buying his leprechaun act , very good . With his daughter in the Flower shop , with Delaney at the ranch, Stacey and Bohdi and others at the bar. It is Stallone's dialogue and delivery that keeps you guessing , interested , and satisfied - a real vindication of "Rocky" Stallone. Interesting too the old godfather mafia code 'we leave the families alone " and his hot headed son - something Dwight will have to deal with sooner rather than later - A very good show .

Warning: Spoilers
This episode was a little bit shorter than usual and that is definitely a positive sign as I think the run time has been far too long for this show.

But this also was a little bit repetitive. All of the mob stuff in the New York setting just comes off as a little bit cliched. I guess they are kind of going for that, but there is still a way to present more original mobsters and gangsters on TV.

But they have me hooked. This is a refreshing show and doesn't feel like a lot of the other programs out there overall. Easy Sunday viewing, easy popcorn TV, that is all that you can really ask for I guess.

Falls between several stools but ultimately, it's a steaming stool.

The high rating and reviews for this show are both an absurdity & a tragic hilarity.

For those that like to compare this to the likes of The Sopranos or Goodfellas: I would suggest you re-watch those series.

It borders on sacrilege to even mention this trite alone side such stellar productions - the proof of which can be clearly seen in the accolades/awards/nominations they garnered juxtaposed v the void, apt maybe a raspberry, this vapid series will 'achieve'.

The acting in this series is only match by the pedestrian dialogue - Stallone is just terrible, the guy cannot act, and he's badly cast in this role. But in fairness, he isn't alone, the actress that plays his daughter and the ridiculous cliche-biker-boss are equally stealing a living as actors.

It saddens me to see Dana Delany and Martin Starr in this production, I hope their collective agents do better going forward, they deserve better.

I could go on pointing out numerous ridiculous sequences and tired contrived conveniences but what's the point. You are most probably a fan having made it this far in (unless you're a sucker such as I, for trying to give shows a fair run) and you may well be a Sly fanboy/girl. Give this your thumbs down, not helpful and go back to reading positive reviews that support your dissonance.
