Horror can always be counted on to transform the most innocuous concepts into unsettling nightmares, especially when it comes to exploring themes of parenthood.
In horror, children frequently veer straight into creepy territory with unsettling statements and empty stares. Creepy kids in horror have been a long-running archetype, turning out iconic characters like Antichrist Damien Thorn in The Omen, The Bad Seed’s Rhoda Penmark, and the possessed Regan MacNeil in The Exorcist.
This week’s streaming picks highlight some of horror’s most unnerving children.

Horror is the gift that keeps giving, especially when it comes to inventive carnage on screen. On that front, it’s been a stellar year for memorable kills in horror thanks to a slew of franchise entries, original slashers, surprising takes on demonic possession, and more.
What might be most surprising, in the best possible way, is how 2023 horror pushed boundaries when it came to on-screen deaths. 2023 horror wasn’t afraid to get ruthless when it came to shattering the taboo of killing kids. Nor was it afraid to deliver unforgettable moments on screen through unexpected demises that made us groan, cheer, recoil, and even laugh.
We’re saluting the ten best kills in 2023 horror movies, which means massive spoilers ahead.
You’ve been warned…

"I can't be a part of this!" "You already are." Dark Star Pictures has revealed an official trailer for an indie revenge horror thriller called Abigail, not to be confused with the other horror revenge thriller Becky and its sequel this year The Wrath of Becky. Similar ideas but not really the same... Set in 1976, a troubled teen befriends her bullied neighbor, seeking revenge on his tormentors, but her obsession turns deadly. Abigail takes a liking to the lonely boy next door and helps him fight back. As she takes him under her wing, the secrets of her past begin to surface. Starring Ava Cantrell, Tren Reed-Brown, Hermione Lynch, Gene Farber, and Karimah Westbrook. So is the twist in this that she is some kind of badass serial killer or something? A strange film, the footage does not look good. Makes sense they're dumping it on VOD this fall. // Continue...

Stars: Lulu Wilson, Swann William Scott, Denise Burse, Jill Larson, Michael Sirow | Written by Matt Angel, Suzanne Coote, Nick Morris | Directed by Matt Angel, Suzanne Coote
Co-directed by Matt Angel and Suzanne Coote, The Wrath of Becky is a sequel to Becky, a twisted home invasion horror that quickly gained cult appeal when it was released in 2020. With original co-directing duo Jonathan Milott and Cary Murnion on board as executive producers, it’s a satisfying follow-up that ticks all the right sequel boxes.
The story picks up three years after the events of the first film, with a now 16-year-old Becky (Lulu Wilson) living with kindly elderly lady Elena (Denise Burse) and working as a diner waitress. However, when Becky pours coffee in the lap of an obnoxious customer, he and his friends follow her home, killing Elena and stealing Becky’s beloved dog, Diego. The dimwitted Noble Men getting violently schooled by a not-so-sweet 16 Becky clearly hasn’t seen the gory prequel that came out in 2020 and gave us a campy trip of blood and guts. There’s no denying that Becky was unflinchingly wicked about the kind of guilty pleasure it had aspired to become. And there’s an odd charm to films that are resolute in their ulterior agenda, however depraved and restricted they may be. With a fresh set of writer-directors and a brand-new Neo-Nazi trio extremely easy to root against, our vicious teenage scream queen gets her revenge switch clicked on once again in The Wrath Of Becky. And you know what follows when Becky is messed with!
Plot Synopsis: What Happens In ‘The Wrath Of Becky’?

Uma Thurman, Samuel L. Jackson and Joe Manganiello are set to team up in upcoming Shout Studios thriller The Kill Room, Variety reports today.
The dark comedic thriller was directed by Nicol Paone and written by Jonathan Jacobson.
The Kill Room follows “an art dealer (Thurman) who teams with a hitman (Manganiello) and his boss (Jackson) for a money laundering scheme. The plan accidentally turns the hired killer into an overnight avant-garde sensation, forcing the dealer to play the art world against the underworld.”
“’The Kill Room’ is a sharp, darkly comic evisceration of the art collecting scene, delivered with wily relish by Uma Thurman and director Nicol Paone. We’re confident this will play very well with audiences who like their entertainment both witty and visceral,” Jordan Fields, senior VP of acquisitions and originals at Shout, told Variety.
The cast also includes Debi Mazar, Dree Hemingway (“The Unicorn,” “Starlet”), Amy Keum (“Honor Society,...

Directed by Matt Angel and Suzanne Coote and starring Lulu Wilson as Becky, a killing machine, “The Wrath of Becky” is a sequel to Becky (2020) that is much more enjoyable and action-packed.
This film does not have a single philosophical idea to discuss during our existentialist meetings. Since we stopped attending those meetings, our lives have been much better.
Plot
Two years after surviving a violent attack on her family, 16-year-old Becky tries to rebuild her life while caring for an older woman, a kindred spirit named Elena. However, when a violent group known as the Noble Men breaks into her home, attacks them, and takes her beloved dog, Becky must take matters into her own hands to protect herself and her loved ones.

The Wrath Of Becky Q&a with Aaron Dalla Villa:
Can you tell us a bit about your character DJ in "The Wrath of Becky" and how you prepared for the role?
Oh man, another bottom-of-the-barrel piece of patriotic filth who uses crude comedy and a "devil may care" attitude to hide behind his insecurities and small dick…My Favorite! When the movie premiered at SXSW, I joked about how I got a Vpn and Tor browser and went onto Reddit-type echo chambers that spewed white supremacy hate, but that was a joke. I'm from Virginia and have family from North Carolina. I'm not saying that the South is entirely racist, but I've been around these types of people. And without calling out specifically who, I will say that I modeled DJ after a family member. I studied the script over and over and made some bold choices.

Apologies for the radio silence. Mike Flanagan's ever-widening oeuvre primarily consists of horror adaptations infused with his trademark ability to imbue greater depth into characters and introduce fresh perspectives to already-promising premises. Take his films "Doctor Sleep" and "Gerald's Game" for instance — while both are somewhat faithful to the respective Stephen King originals, Flanagan uses these classic stories to flesh out the fictional worlds further, focusing on haunting atmospheres as opposed to traditional jumpscare tactics to elicit scares. This sensibility also bleeds into his small screen offerings, where Flanagan was able to make "The Haunting of Hill House" and "The Haunting of Bly Manor" his own, despite constructing the stories on the foundational tenets of the novels they were adapted from.
Continuing this tradition, Flanagan has currently set sights on the works of Edgar Allan Poe, whose short stories are often a mix of gothic horror and supernatural mystery, making it the perfect playground...

After closing out April with a look at the hagsploitation classic What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?, we kicked off May with a deathly serious look at Gus Van Sant’s pseudo-Columbine adaptation Elephant. Now we continue the month with a look at Alex Garland’s dense and trippy 2018 film Annihilation.
Annihilation sees Lena (Natalie Portman), a biologist and former soldier, join a mission to uncover what happened to her husband (Oscar Isaac) inside Area X — a sinister and mysterious phenomenon that is expanding across the American coastline. Alongside a team of four other women comprised of paramedic Anya (Gina Rodriguez), physicist Josie (Tessa Thompson), psychologist Ventress (Jennifer Jason Leigh) and geomorphologist Cass (Tuva Novotny), Lena discovers a world of mutated landscapes and creatures, as dangerous as it is beautiful, that threatens both their lives and their sanity.

“It was a contributor to the specialty box office, and I hope it will be again,” says Laemmle CEO Greg Laemmle of MoviePass, the subscription service that unsurprisingly went bankrupt in early 2020 after offering a movie a day for ten bucks a month.
A co-founder Stacy Spikes, who was pushed out amid strategic differences with new owners, including the $9.95 plan, acquired the assets out of bankruptcy in 2021. He relaunched MoviePass yesterday after months of beta testing. The movie-a-day-plan, which left the service subsidizing most tickets, “was never going to work,” Sikes tells Deadline. AMC had actually threatened to sue, saying the plan wasn’t sustainable and set consumers up “for ultimate disappointment down the road.” Its bankruptcy filing listed more than 12,000 subscribers it may have owned money to.

Released to theaters in the theatrical dog days of mid-2020, Jonathan Milott and Cary Murnion’s “Becky” became a home-formats hit, its gleefully tasteless home-invasion thrills a guilty-pleasure tonic for Covid captives going a bit stir-crazy. Now Lulu Wilson is back as that title character, more or less the sole survivor of her prior screen outing. You can be sure in “The Wrath of Becky” that age hasn’t dulled her pissed-off homicidal verve, and that fate will surely provide another crop of ne’er-do-wells to tempt its exercise.
However, a different writing-directing duo is in charge this time, Matt Angel and Suzanne Coote. Their efforts generate rewards that are somewhat diminished, if still diverting. Quiver is releases this SXSW-premiered sequel to U.S. theaters, with home-formats dates as yet unannounced.

During the height of the pandemic, very few new movies were coming out, and even fewer were actually getting the chance to shine in what few theaters were open. One movie that got its day in court, however, was "Becky," which featured a teenager (Lulu Wilson) getting bloody and taking out a group of escaped criminals led by a character played by Kevin James. The movie even topped the box office, mostly thanks to drive-in theaters. Now, as the industry is once again back on its feet, Wilson is back in a bloodier, crazier sequel, "The Wrath of Becky."
The film debuted earlier this year at SXSW (read our review here), and hails from writer/directors Matt Angel and Suzanne Coote, who took over for the follow-up. Two years after Becky escaped a violent attack on her family, she is trying to rebuild her life in the care of an...

In the year 2000, two of the big rising names in teen movies partnered up for a stoner buddy comedy in the vein of Bill & Ted and Dumb and Dumber. Ashton Kutcher, hot off the popularity of That 70’s Show, and American Pie‘s scene-stealing star Seann William Scott, would play the simple-minded but lovable Jesse and Chester in Dude, Where’s My Car? In Dude, Where’s My Car?, the duo would embark on a mystery after one morning, they discover their car is missing.
Seann William Scott is currently making a villainous turn in the horror film The Wrath of Becky, and the star sits down to talk the film with ScreenRant when he’s asked about what happened to a sequel to Dude, Where’s my Car? and if there could still be a chance of one.
Scott replies,

Plot: Becky decimated a quartet of neo-Nazis when she was just 13 years old. Now a couple years have passed, and she finds herself up against a new group of enemies.
Review: The pandemic shut the world down in March of 2020. But a few months later, directors Jonathan Milott and Cary Murnion gifted a nation of shut-ins with a special treat: the thriller Becky, which has been described as an “ultra violent Home Alone”. Playing in drive-ins across America before heading to VOD, Becky earned $1 million at the domestic box office during that troubled time. In the long run, it made enough money and caught enough attention to get a sequel greenlit… and now we have The Wrath of Becky. A sequel that comes from an entirely new creative team, who decided to make a tonal shift that might not sit well with some fans of the original.

The Columbine Movie
It’s been a month of vampires, slugs, and biddies with episodes on The Hunger, Night of the Creeps and What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? This week, however, Trace and I are getting serious as we tackle gun violence, school shootings, and queerness in gay director Gus Van Sant‘s enthralling film, Elephant (2003).
The second film in Van Sant’s so-called “Death Trilogy,” Elephant is “the Columbine movie”: it’s a loose recreation of the 1999 school shooting that claimed the lives of 13 people. Van Sant adopts a pseudo-documentary filming style and the cast is almost exclusively composed of non-professional teen actors who improvised their scenes and characterizations.
The slice of life film is quiet, filmed primarily in long takes and is presented in a non-linear fashion. It’s also a powerful, under seen film that encourages discussion due to its staunch refusal to offer answers or solutions.

Matt Angel and Suzanne Coote (The Open House) wrote and directed The Wrath of Becky, a sequel to the violent home invasion film that made headlines back in 2020.
In the film, “Two years after she escaped a violent attack on her family, Becky attempts to rebuild her life in the care of an older woman – a kindred spirit named Elena. But when a group known as the “Noble Men” break into their home, attack them, and take her beloved dog, Diego, Becky must return to her old ways to protect herself and her loved ones.”
Lulu Wilson stars alongside Seann William Scott, Matt Angel, Courtney Gains, Aaron Dalla Villa, Michael Sirow, Denise Burse-Fernandez, Jill Larson, and Kate Siegel.

Following the double bill of vampire films with The Hunger and Ganja & Hess, Trace and I jumped into genre hodge podge last week with Fred Dekker’s delightful sci-fi homage, Night of the Creeps.
This week we’re veering gently into camp territory with the birth of hagsploitation in Robert Aldrich‘s What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? The film follows Blanche and Jane as sisters and former vaudeville stars, played by real-life rivals Joan Crawford and Bette Davis. The sisters live together and Jane takes care of (read: abuses) her older sister Blanche after she lost her ability to walk following a car accident.
As Blanche plots to escape her sister’s torment, Jane hires pianist Edwin Flagg (gay actor Victor Buono) to assist with her delusional plans to mount a comeback. As Jane spirals, she directs her madness toward her sister in increasingly malicious and dangerous ways.

You just don’t mess with someone’s dog. If John Wick has taught us anything, it’s that. Quiver Distribution has dropped a gruesome red-band trailer for The Wrath of Becky, which follows the title character as she attempts to rescue her beloved dog, Diego, after he’s taken by a fascist organization. Check out the Wrath of Becky trailer above!
The first movie must have slipped completely under my radar, as I had no idea that Wrath of Becky was a sequel to anything. I should probably make an effort to check out that first film because Wrath of Becky looks like an absolute blast. You really can’t go wrong with blood-soaked revenge. Here’s the official synopsis: “Two years after she escaped a violent attack on her family, Becky attempts to rebuild her life in the care of an older woman – a kindred spirit named Elena.

The Wrath of Becky, a sequel to the very cool “ultra violent Home Alone” thriller Becky, which was released in 2020, made its world premiere at the SXSW Film Festival last month, and now Quiver Distribution has announced that they will be giving the film a theatrical release on May 26th! To help you decide whether or not you’ll want to see The Wrath of Becky on the big screen next month, we have the teaser trailer embedded above.
While the first Becky was directed by Jonathan Milott and Cary Murnion from a screenplay by Nick Morris, Ruckus Skye, and Lane Skye, The Wrath of Becky has been written and directed by Matt Angel and Suzanne Coote. Angel and Coote previously directed the Netflix thrillers The Open House and Hypnotic. The sequel has the following synopsis: After living off the grid for two years, Becky finds herself going toe to toe against Darryl,...

The sequel to 2020’s home invasion action-thriller Becky, The Wrath of Becky, goes bigger and bloodier (read my review here).
In the film, “Two years after she escaped a violent attack on her family, Becky attempts to rebuild her life in the care of an older woman – a kindred spirit named Elena. But when a group known as the “Noble Men” break into their home, attack them and take her beloved dog, Diego, Becky must return to her old ways to protect herself and her loved ones.”
Lulu Wilson reprises her role as the killer teen, with writers/directors Matt Angel and Suzanne Coote (The Open House) taking the reigns for this sequel.
Bloody Disgusting chatted with Wilson, Angel, and Coote after The Wrath of Becky’s world premiere at SXSW, where they spoke about the tonal shift toward humor and softening Becky just a bit. For starters, star Lulu...

This past weekend, The Wrath of Becky celebrated its world premiere at the 2023 SXSW Film Festival. A brutally fun follow-up to 2020’s Becky, the sequel directed by Suzanne Coote and Matt Angel follows the titular character (played by Lulu Wilson), who is tasked with taking down a group of neo-Nazis who end up pissing off the teen, thus unleashing Becky’s formidable rage.
Recently, Daily Dead had the opportunity to speak with the crew from The Wrath of Becky about the sequel, and during our interview, the directing duo of Matt Angel and Suzanne Coote chatted about their approach to the script and the challenges of balancing tone, Lulu Wilson discussed how thrilled she was to return to the eponymous character, and Seann William Scott explained the collaborative experience he had in crafting his character with Coote and Angel.

Where 2020's "Becky" is an underage child's fight for survival based on primal instincts, Matt Angel and Suzanne Coote's sequel "The Wrath of Becky" plays more like a comic book panel massacre. That's not a bad thing if you're into watching a Girl Scout assassin brutalize Proud Boys lookalikes with a smile on her face. Violence emphasizes excessive gore, real bad dudes get what's coming, and the action hero mold is flipped on its head with Becky front and center. Angel and Coote brighten the mood versus "Becky" and embrace the B-movie nature of Becky's somewhat unstoppable spree. Still, this time, there's less suspenseful impact by trading feral ferocity for this almost superhero nature that leans into Becky's franchise potential.
Lulu Wilson returns as a now older, now deadlier Becky, the survivor of an attack that left her father dead (Rip Joel McHale) and the Neo-Nazis responsible. After an...

Three years ago, the action thriller "Becky" introduced drive-in theater goers to a 13-year-old whose defensive measures against home invaders would put Kevin McCallister in "Home Alone" to shame. Let's just say the eponymous Becky, played by Lulu Wilson, improvises some unorthodox uses for colored pencils as a group of convicts besieges her family's lake house. She's got a blood-covered face and an attack dog named Diego, and you'll see both of those in the sequel, "The Wrath of Becky."
Over the weekend, "The Wrath of Becky," premiered at the 2023 South by Southwest Film Festival, where /Film was on hand to interview Wilson and co-directors Matt Angel and Suzanne Coote. Discussion turned to the possibility of a "Becky" threequel, and while nothing's official yet, there's certainly been talk of one.
"I'm so down, literally, for like, whenever, wherever," Wilson told us. "It doesn't matter what it is, I'll do it,...
