- Katie Rand: You know, people always say I'm such a good person and they're all Mahatma Katie. But I do... I try! I don't want to put toxic garbage into the world. I want to put something GOOD into the world.
- Karen Cartwright: [in restaurant] You said you wanted to talk about Marilyn?
- Derek Wills: Yeah, I did. We've come up with a really interesting new situation, and... we're talking to a new songwriter.
- [clears throat]
- Karen Cartwright: [intrigued] A new songwriter?
- Derek Wills: About a new approach. And one new song, actually, to start.
- Karen Cartwright: Okay. So...?
- Derek Wills: And we need you to sing it.
- Karen Cartwright: [face lights up] You want me to...?
- Derek Wills: And Tom and Julia obviously cannot know.
- Karen Cartwright: Well, you told me not to call her.
- Derek Wills: No, I didn't. I just said that she and Tom couldn't know about it.
- Karen Cartwright: But why not?
- Derek Wills: Okay.

- Derek Wills: As a general rule, composers tend to flip out at the drop of a hat. So until I know what I wanna tell them, I don't wanna tell them anything.
- Karen Cartwright: [as he steers her towards stairs] What are you doing?
- Derek Wills: There's only one way to find out.
- Ivy Lynn: [after the rehearsal of the new song] Didn't go so well?
- Karen Cartwright: [surprised] Ivy!
- Ivy Lynn: You know, this wasn't what I thought it was gonna be.
- Karen Cartwright: Apparently, it wasn't what anyone thought it was gonna be.
- Ivy Lynn: Okay. It's a dirty business.
- [condescending]
- Ivy Lynn: I totally understand why you'd stab Tom and Julia in the back like that.
- Karen Cartwright: I didn't stab Tom...
- Ivy Lynn: Didn't you?
- [fake smile]
- Ivy Lynn: It's okay, Karen.
- [a hand on Karen's shoulder]
- Ivy Lynn: I understand.
- [walks away victoriously]
- Ivy Lynn: [after hearing that she might be replaced by a star, singing sadly] Fade in on a girl with a hunger for fame, with a face and a name to remember...
