The Goods outweigh the Bads, but Something's Missing.

Warning: Spoilers
Who thought it was a good idea to sideline Raelle for most of the final season? Besides Alder, she is my favorite and even if she wasn't, she's so interesting and there's still mysteries around her powers. We are told she's basically a weapon of mass destruction within. Wow. Why hide such an interesting character? It also sets up a conflict that the show isn't exploring. Is Raelle worth saving if she could destroy the world, humanity? I would love to see her in a dark underworld or netherworld. Something. Her absence leaves a void in the show for me. The other interesting character, Alder, unleashes a deadly new power - creating shadows of herself to off Camarilla goons in oh so gruesome fashion! Of course Hearst gets away. Why is the show still holding on to Hearst as some big villain? Once I saw his sister belittle him repeatedly and he responded like a weak puppy, it reduced him to, well, not a formidable foe anymore. Why is so giddy and goofy now? I loved the quieter, but well-acted scenes where Alder and Khalida revealed their brutal backstories. I didn't love the Cession Council. They're too indecisive and unserious. We're talking about National Security, domestic terrorism and the survivability of the witch race and they're cracking jokes and trading barbs. They didn't meet the dire moment for me. Tally figuring out her fiery visions to try and change history intrigues me. This was a solid episode that progressed the story. Please bring back Raelle.

doing well with what they have to work with

In case you missed it, on this season's premiere episode's 'After the Storm' (released on Youtube), they informed us that Taylor Hickson (Raelle) took a bad fall and left a bit broken right before they started shooting the newest season. I give credit to the writers who salvaged the storyline as best as they could, thought they had to sideline Raelle a bit so she could heal--even with the literal translation(?) into the script.

I think they're doing well with their final season, the creators have raised the stakes with strong conflicts and the story delves deeper into the lore. Though some character development had to be glazed over, they do try to keep it compelling with what they have to work with--the fan favorite Raelle Scylla 'ship had to be maintained, if not, built stronger.

The only qualms I have is the direction of Abigail's story, past seasons have always portrayed her as the glue of the unit but now most time is spent considerably on her 'ship with Adil. And I get confused about Khalida's position in the Tarim. She acts more mature because she is powerful and was groomed to be leader (not to mention, a warden of the First Song), but in other scenes, she is Adil's "baby" sister again and she must be protected at all cost. That dynamic has never worked for me throughout the show but it's nitpicking a story that should not be taken so seriously.

In my opinion, I feel like the Bellweather unit has/is completing a full story with a beginning middle and end. Instead of hoping for the impossible of saving the show from cancelation. I hope Eliot Laurence takes a step back and spends some more time in the lore--maybe develop a spin-off that wasn't so niche in demographics.
