Levan Akin’s fantasy drama is based on Sara Bergmark Elfgren & Mats Strandbergand’s best-selling trilogy of novels.
Bertrand Devort has boarded worldwide sales rights to Levan Akin’s The Circle (Cirkeln), a Swedish young-adult film produced by Benny Andersson of Abba fame.
Devort of Brussels-based La Galéjade struck the deal with Stockholm-based Rmv Film and Andersson to represent the completed film.
The film is based on the first book in a best-selling young-adult trilogy written by Sara Bergmark Elfgren & Mats Strandbergand already published in more than 30 countries. The film blends drama and fantasy and is “about magic, love, failing parents, evil forces, secrets, lies, solidarity and friendship.” The plot follows six girls at the same school who discover they are witches and try to defeat an evil power.
Producers are Andersson, Cecilia Norman Mardell and Ludvig Andersson for Rmv Film. Andersson also composed the film’s score.

It was back in August that we ran the first teaser for Levan Akin's adaptation of Mats Strandberg and Sara Bergmark Elfgren's Cirkeln (The Circle), the first in a series of hugely popular young adult fantasy novels with the feature version produced by Abba's Benny Andersson. With a story revolving around a group of young women realizing that they have magical abilities and must protect the world from demonic forces it's easy to make comparisons to things like The Craft though the visual sensibility is much more in line with current Ya blockbusters.And now the full trailer for the film has arrived, this one even including English subtitles. I'm always curious how well youth oriented films like this will travel - i.e. will international audiences...

You may have expected there to be a wave of young adult oriented fantasy film to arise in Sweden following the runaway international success of Let The Right One In but, surprisingly, there was not. Adaptations of the original author's other novels stalled out and very little popped up in terms of original material or adaptations of other books.
