- As the Fringe team investigates a mentally ill patient who appears to be connected to a series of murders, frightening clues and connections are uncovered that lead Olivia to some shocking revelations.
- Peter convinces Olivia to be examined by Walter since she is retrieving memories from his Olivia, but Walter does not find anything wrong. He believes Peter is influencing Olivia with his memories. The Fringe Division is assigned to investigate a teenager, Sean, in a mental institution, who described a murder in real time to his nurse. Olivia and Lincoln bring Sean to Walter and after examination, he discovers that the teenager is telepathically connected to the criminal and they have the same DNA. Olivia and Lincoln visit Sean's mother and find an important lead.—Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
- Peter sits Olivia down after she kissed him. She says it just felt like "that's what we do". She knows she's only known him three months, but he wants Walter to look at her. She's embarrassed and just wants to rest. She thinks she has another migraine coming on.
When Peter leaves, she remembers the other Olivia coming home to Peter's and seeing his other-universe glow. Not her memory.
Deerfield Mental Hospital A young man walks around the hospital in the dark. He announces it's time.
Douglastown, NY Three other young men break into a house, one of them has a knife. From the mental hospital, the man, Sean, seems to narrate what others are doing. He tells them he's in the kitchen and to be careful.
A nurse comes to put Sean back to bed, telling him the voices he's hearing aren't real. In the house, the man is confronted by the three men. Sean shouts that there's three of and one of him. Back in the house, they put a bag over the man's head and stab him.
As he's forcibly put in bed, Sean says it's over, he's dead.
Olivia and Lincoln visit the mental hospital. The nurse called. Sean is schizophrenic and has been there for at least three years -- he's been institutionalized since he was 14. As they're walking down the hall, Olivia remembers going to get Walter out of St. Claire's with Peter -- the other Olivia's memory.
They talk to Sean. "Are you telling me the voices in my head are real?" he asks. The victim is Daniel Greene, Sean doesn't know him.
Sean says the voices come and go and always from inside his head. He recognizes eight or nine, some he doesn't hear for weeks.
Last night he heard three. One of them left and two went to the subway station. One was hurt and went to get cleaned up in the subway bathroom.
The voices only talk to each other. Walter asks if Sean would be willing to go off his meds if it would help the investigation.
Walter thinks Sean's hearing the real thoughts of other people. He's there voluntarily, so they can't stop him from going off his meds.
Walking down the hall, Olivia remembers going to get Walter for the first time.
Later, Olivia drops by Peter's house. She wants to look around. She knows the sofa where Walter used to sleep in Peter's timeline. She remembers the first time she slept with Peter, she remembers William Bell and Jacksonville and Peter getting in the machine. She remembers being with Peter, she remembers everything.
In the lab, Walter examines her asking a series of questions. Olivia isn't worried about what's going on, but Peter is.
She remembers coming to get Walter from St. Claire's and Peter was with her because she needed a family member to sign him out. She also remembers going without Peter, but it's hazy.
"How can she have memories of my Olivia's life that are clearer than her own?" Peter wonders.
Walter thinks she's highly empathetic and she's becoming Peter's Olivia for him. He's not sure how it's happening.
Walter cuts some of Olivia's hair to test. Lincoln comes in to report bloody towels were found at the subway bathroom where Sean said they'd be. The DNA report is similar to Sean's, they have the same abnormality. He thinks Sean and the killer are half brothers and they're communicating via mental telepathy. According to his medical records, Sean is an only child.
Olivia and Lincoln leave to talk to Sean's mom. Walter confronts Peter, telling him it's wrong to try to replace something he loves. He thinks Peter's doing it, even if he doesn't mean to.
At Sean's mom's house, she tells them Sean was conceived through in vitro. Dr. Owen Frank did the procedure. She got a call from a reporter who was working on an IVF story a couple of days ago, Daniel Greene, the victim.
In a nursing home, Dr. Owen Frank watches a news report about Daniel Greene being murdered. He's bothered.
At the mental hospital, Astrid sits with Sean as he detoxes from his meds. He hears the voices, but there are too many to make out.
In the lab, Walter runs tests on Olivia's hair. He pauses for tea, and squeezes tons of honey in.
Olivia makes calls to track down Dr. Frank, but his clinic closed 10 years ago. She tells Peter, taking ahold of his hand. They have a moment, but Peter pulls back.
Walter comes in and announces a breakthrough. Bees. The hive communicates over long distances. Walter is curt with Peter as he explains that the kids are operating as one, doing whatever it takes for the hive to survive. Olivia gets a call with Dr. Frank's location. Walter stares down Peter to make his point about Olivia.
Olivia and Peter visit Dr. Frank in the nursing home. He tells them Daniel Greene visited him a week ago about his research. He says this isn't the first time they have killed. Three years ago he hired a writer to do research but the day before they were supposed to start work, the writer was killed.
His clinic work was a vehicle for his real experiments on genetic manipulation. He altered the DNA of the babies he made, trying to make a better human being.
Dr. Frank shows them his files using recombinate DNA. His patients didn't know. He tried to introduce abilities humans used to have, like telepathy and a heightened protective instinct. He thinks that's why they're killing -- to protect themselves.
The clinic's files are in commercial storage in Back Bay. There are about 200 children from the same donor, but he kept altering the mutation so they're not all the same. Peter realizes that Dr. Frank is the father.
In the hospital, Sean hears the voices, including one of the three killers telling the others to wait, he's coming. He says they feel threatened.
Sean doesn't know where he is, but he's in pain. Cut to one of the killers bandaging his arm.
Walter looks at results in his lab and is disturbed. "Good god," he says.
Lincoln comes to the lab and Walter is no longer concerned with the case. He needs to see Nina Sharp, he knows what's happening to Olivia.
Lincoln takes Walter to Nina. Walter is very angry, telling her that Olivia has been dosed repeatedly and recently with cortexaphan. Massive Dynamic is holding the only remaining samples he and William Bell made and Nina says she's the only one with access to the vault. She wants to make a few calls, but Lincoln tells her not to.
At the storage facility, Olivia tells Peter the situation is hard for her, too. She keeps expecting him to look at her a certain way and he doesn't. She feels incredibly close to him, but he keeps pulling away. She wants him to act naturally.
They reach the storage bay and she remembers the last time she (the other one) opened one of these is blew up John Scott. They traced the explosive to Hong Kong. That's news to Peter, which means that he's not projecting his memories on to her. She can't have memories that he's never had.
Olivia isn't concerned about the cause, she likes the feeling. They find the storage unlocked.
Sean keeps recounting the voices for Astrid. They feel threatened, they're going to kill her. Astrid asks who. Olivia opens the facility. It's trashed. Someone beat them there.
Astrid calls Olivia, telling her they know she's there.
Suddenly a car starts driving right at Peter and Olivia. He pushes her out of the way. Two of the killers come out and attack them but Peter and Olivia fight them off and subdue them, getting them in handcuffs.
At the nursing home, two police come to see Dr. Frank.
Before they reach his room, two of "his" kids come to his room. He recognizes them as his. They quietly grab a pillow and start to put it over his face. The police knock at the door. They're too late, Dr. Frank is dead.
In the mental hospital, Sean's mom visits him. He's bothered. He can't hear the voices and he can't feel them either. They're gone.
Astrid tells him it's understandable that silence would scare him, he's not used to being by himself. She reassures him it's normal and now he has room to hear himself think.
With the case over, pulling into a gas station, Olivia knows that now is when she and Peter would go to one of their houses. She asks him what he wants to do and he explains he's made this mistake before, he betrayed the Olivia that he loves. But when he looks into her eyes, he knows it's her. He kisses her.
She announces she has to go to the bathroom and goes into the gas station.
At Massive Dynamic, Nina leads Lincoln and Walter to the cortexpahan, which includes a biometric hand scanner. The twenty vials are all there. Walter takes one out and takes a swig. It's potassium iodide with food coloring, the cortexaphan has been replaced.
Peter goes looking for Olivia in the gas station. She's not in the bathroom and the clerk didn't see her. She's not in the car.
Cut to Olivia, groggy and strapped to a chair in a dingy room. Nina is in the room with her, also strapped to a chair. Nina assures her they're going to be OK, but it's not clear if she believes it..
