The classic Portuguese song "Canção do Mar" composed by Frederico de Brito and Ferrer Trindade in the early 1950's gets a special treatment on the voice of Dulce Pontes. If
you don't know the song by name you definiely know by its classical dramatic arrangements or because of its inclusion on the 1996 film "Primal Fear" or the TV series "Southland"
(a producer of both projects is a big fan of the track); here in Brazil is closely associated with the soap opera "Os Ossos do Barão" - thanks to a college friend and this
information that I got acquainted with the song's title but I always remembered the instrumental section from the opening. So here we have this amazing video, shot in sepia color
showcasing the melancholic yet beautiful locations in Lisbon (I think...) reflecting the song, the ocean (I mean, it's "Song of the Sea" the song title).
It's a very romantic song that combines the ideal of famous Portuguese sailors conquering the seas in distant centuries aligned with an idea of romance, love, affection
in a poetry that mixes terms from both ideals to compose its whole. It's very good but I fell in love with the chilling instrumental part, pretty much like a classical music
that can give you many feelings at the same time, it's quite dramatic, full of melody and it stays with you for a long time.
It's a beautiful video with the young Dulce performing the song (hard to believe she was in her early 20's when she recorded the song, you imagine a veteran singer
performing it since she really had a lady's voice. Very beautiful), walking and dancing around the lonely beach, images of nature, the ocean, the distant lighthouse and some
archive image of people waving goodbye to other people on a ship evoking the memories of navigators who faced brave oceans to conquer the new world. It's a quite poetic video
and one that I keep revisiting a lot lately. Check it out. 8/10.
