I had to attend the press conference for an upcoming children's film festival as part of the daily activities of the school social work I'm doing, since last month, at the Cineteca Nacional (Mexico's national cinematheque). Before the conference began, I was lucky enough to actually watch seven of the many short films that will be part of the festival. It was material that otherwise I would not have seen, so it was a really nice very first experience at this kind of events – and I liked some of the shorts (and loved one!).
The whole speech of the people behind the festival (the cinematheque only functions as a venue) is the sort of classic one in which the thing of diversity is always pointed out and Hollywood is criticized for its summer blockbusters that come with hundreds of copies. It was an annoying and tired speech certainly, but at the same time the seven shorts I watched did offer diversity and even allowed me to see my very first film in Catalan!
And I'm talking about this one, L'EQUIP PETIT – the one I truly loved and definitely the best. I had read about it before in a sports article, but never went online to watch it (it's on youtube and vimeo). When I watched the first seconds of it I immediately recalled the stuff I had read and knew what I was going to see – and that is because its premise is as attractive as unique: a little documentary about a football (soccer) team of children that has NEVER scored a goal!
It's possible that by reading that you didn't get interested. Maybe you just don't dig football or any other sport. However this is one of those cases in which that will not really matter. After all, everybody can get what it means to lose soccer game with a 20+ - 0 score, and hearing the protagonists talking about that, their experiences and dreams is, simply, very CUTE and FUN. Yes, L'EQUIP PETIT is really cute and fun material and you'll be telling about it to your girlfriend and familiars (at least I was – my sister studied Catalan so I rushed to tell her about it). Great stuff!
