A flu epidemic is breaking out across Australia, but this sickness is much worse than the flu. Those suffering experience an allergic reaction to the sun, the inability to see themselves in a mirror, and an intense craving for blood. It doesn't take a medical degree to realize that people are suddenly becoming vampires (although these vampires resemble the ones in Guillermo del Toro's The Strain rather than the ones in, say, Alan Ball's True Blood). What is less apparent is why this epidemic is happening—an answer that this film doesn't attempt to address.
In The Caretaker, Dr. Ford Grainger (Mark White) is our first glimpse of a recently turned vampire. He makes a house call to an ailing woman and her son in an out-of-the-way house. He discovers that she is turning into a vampire and quickly kills her. Grainger is a solo vampire whose instincts...

Australia’s Revelation Perth International Film Festival will be holding it’s explosive 15th annual edition on July 5-15 with one of it’s most jam-packed lineups yet.
One of the most special events that Revelation will be holding is July 14‘s retrospective of the films of Jeff Keen, the pioneering British underground filmmaker who very sadly just passed away on June 21. Keen’s work has been having a major resurgence lately and Revelation is the latest organization to so boldly feature his breathtaking experimental film work, from classics like 1967′s Marvo Movie to modern films like Artwar (1993) and Joy Thru Film (2000). This is absolutely an event not to be missed.
Another staggering event this year is a very special live presentation of Crispin Hellion Glover‘s notorious underground films What Is It? and It Is Fine! Everything Is Fine. (Click film titles for Bad Lit reviews!) These very...

What happens when the thing you fear most is all that can save you? A new Australian vampire pic has entered the fray, entitled The Caretaker, Tom Conyers writes and directs the indie starring Anna Kate Burgess, Clint Dowdell, Colin MacPherson, Lee Mason, and Mark White. "A plague of vampirism has swept across the world. A small but discordant group of survivors hole up in a country mansion. They soon discover that a vampire also shares the house with them. He proposes a deal: They protect him during the day from other humans, and hell protect them at night from other vampires. So begins an uneasy alliance, which soon threatens to fall apart." Check out the trailer inside with more at the film's Facebook.

Fear not, fans of horrific vampires; help is on the way! Unfortunately, your favorite beasties have kind of been hijacked by Twilight, and even the vamps in "True Blood" seem to be spending more time grabassing with Sookie than actually draining victims. Outside of Stake Land we've had a serious drought of quality bloodsuckers. However, word we've received from DC reader and super tipster Avery G is that Australia has a pretty kick-ass vampire film on the way in The Caretaker.
The trailer below gives a little taste of this film based on a very shaky agreement between a vamp and human family that can only go horribly wrong. I get a serious 30 Days of Night feel from the creatures in this one. The film is directed by Tom Conyers and stars Tom Conyers, Anna Burgess, Colin MacPherson, Lee Mason and Clint Dowdell.
