If you want to be one of the first to hear brand new music from the world’s hottest DJs, you go to Ultra Music Festival. Each and every year, artists bring their latest and greatest to the fest and premiere tracks that have never been heard before.
This year was no different, especially in the case of superstar Martin Garrix, who brought with him no less than 10 brand new songs. It’s a risky move bringing that much new music to a festival set, especially when so many of the tracks sounded quite different than what we’re used to from the Dutch producer, but Garrix pulled it off with aplomb.
In what was a historic set for Ultra, given that the producer is the youngest person ever to close the main stage on opening night, Garrix unleashed an arsenal of new music, all of it showcasing a unique...

As with his last song, “Forbidden Voices,” Martin Garrix is stepping away from his typical big room sound. For his new track, titled “Don’t Look Down” and featuring pop icon Usher, the young producer has given us a radio-friendly tune infused with a bit of tropical house thanks to some synthesized bells which do work well here, but certainly sound out of place in a Garrix song.
Still, it’s nice to see the DJ stepping out of his comfort zone by going for a more melodic feel than just another main stage banger. The track is set to appear on his upcoming debut album and if it’s any indication of the direction that he’s heading in, then we could be in for a whole new side of the producer once the disc drops later this year.

Moving away from his typical big room sound, Martin Garrix has given us a free download to celebrate reaching 10 million fans on Facebook. Titled “Forbidden Voices,” keen fans will recognize the Porter Robinson-esque track from the second episode of his documentary series, The Martin Garrix Show. Now released in full, the song carries with it a more progressive sound, which marks a definite departure for the 18-year-old producer.
More mellow and chilled out than his typical bangers, “Forbidden Voices” boasts a drowned out vocal sample and while it’s far from his best work, it’s a decent tune and a welcome free download. Plus, you can be sure that he’ll be working it into some of his upcoming sets, so you mise well start getting familiar with it now.
