The kind of movie that you forget what your watching as you watch, which really hurts the end.
cosmo_tiger30 May 2014
"If you come clean to me, if you confess then maybe I'll let you live." After Michael Shaughnessy (Goss) wakes up he begins to piece together what happened to him. He was thrown out of a plane and left for dead and now he wants revenge. He tracks his target to a Mexican drug trafficking ring and infiltrates it. He seems to slip in too easy but the farther in he goes the more dangerous and twisted it becomes. There isn't really all that much to say about this one. Another in the long line of B rate action movies that are at the same time generic and not sure of what they want to be. There are some good action scenes in this that keep you interested but then other scenes slow it way down and makes it hard to stay interested in. Unfortunately the boring scenes take up most of the movie and by the end you don't really get the emotion the movie was going for. This type of movie has been redone a million times and it needed something more to keep you interested. Overall, the kind of movie that you forget what your watching as you watch, which really hurts the end. I give this a C.

good acting and movie, but the plot kinda left a hole
pez-6186924 July 2015
Warning: Spoilers
for me, this movie was a "close but no cigar". not a blockbuster but a reasonable tale.

my spoiler alert though is the ending. after building up to a number of possible endings, it just kinda fizzed, which was a shame.

the movie really had potential in my mind it's definitely not a blockbuster, i think a "worth watching", but the end left me disappointed.

i thought the acting and the direction was quite OK. it wasn't Spielberg, but it was OK.

i guess if you're after a "feel good" ending, then this isn't the movie for you.

Low budget When he heals
jordondave-280859 February 2023
Starring Luke Goss, he plays CIA Michael Shaughnessy who survived a gun shot as well as a fall from an ongoing plane. He sought for some payback to the cartel, Santiago (Nestor Carbonell) for shooting him because Santiago felt he was being double crossed. Michael disobeying his superiors orders, he goes back to Mexico and during which he meets an old flame Rosita (Carolina Castro). And upon Michael leaving her, she's then gets kidnapped creating more reasons to settle his score with Santiago.

Because it's low budget, the action here is nothing to get excited about that consists of a few shoot outs and some fisticuffs. In other words its a hit and miss.

So bad it ain't even funny!
public-online9 November 2013
Warning: Spoilers
This movie can compete for best (worst?) turkey of the century!

Plot: Bad guy (Carbonell) throws Good guy (Goss) out of a plane. Good guy survives the fall from 3000 feet. How? Why? Who cares? Anyhow, once upon a time, Good guy and Bad guy were close. But Good guy allegedly stole money from Bad guy. So Bad guy kidnaps Good guy's love interest. Good guy then kills a bunch of people in order to recover the girl (good thing we know he's Good from the start, cause it'd be *really* hard to tell from the plot). He succeeds, but then the girl gets shot by "Even better guy", who happens to be the CIA handler of Good guy (?) At least I think so, because by then I was more fascinated by my cat's grooming habits than I was by the plot.

Anyhow, the girl survives because Good guy had the brilliant idea of driving around with a teenage boy locked up in his trunk, and - fortunately - the boy turns out to be a budding surgeon. Meanwhile, Bad guy walks around crying, staring at horses while emotionally holding his gun. All his lines are variants of "Why did you betray me, we were BFF" and "Where's my money? Give it back". Even primitive computer-generated dialogues could do better than that!

The scene where Good guy gets thrown off the plane is repeated several times, for "artistic effect"(?)

By the time you find out who wins, you won't give a damn.

Sad thing is that the actors aren't intrinsically bad (they've demonstrated their acting skills elsewhere). I guess they needed the paycheck. But how the writers, director etc managed to find money to produce this is incomprehensible. Glad I didn't pay to watch this flick, and could click on ffwd!

Oh, b.t.w. this is the first time I bother to post a review, but - as immodest as it may sound - this review will still be better than the movie...

Don't waste your money on this one
martin85-119 July 2014
One of the worst movies I have viewed this year. An unbelievable script and poor acting means wasted money. Don't waste yours money on this one because it is not worth it. Lack of continuity and things that just "happen" without any follow up. It is very hard to follow this movie and get any sense out of it.

I rate this absolutely awful!!

Don't waste your money. It is not worth the money or the effort. Terrible Terrible

The plot changes so frequently that it is not possible to come up with it. There is no real plot and people pop in and out.

Low tier dull DTV action movie
destroyerwod6 January 2019
I like Luke Goss. Most of his movies especially in the last decade has been DTV action stuff but i enjoy his acting, his presence, and sometimes the movies are fairly entertaining for there "DTV status". Sadly this is not one of them.

The story is played a bit as a mystery but the stuff happening never make you want to really know what happened. There is a decent ammount of action scenes and there not "terrible" by any means, but they ain't that interesting because you don't really care about the story. This is the biggest problem of the movie.

The characters, the story, there interactions, everything is not really interesting and by the middle of the movie you will have lost interest.

There is a character showing up in the middle of the movie that is so forgivable and seem to be there to just throw something at our hero because otherwise things would be too easy for him.

This is the kind of movie where you imagine yourself writing it and how much more interesting you could had made it, even with the same budget.

Even if you enjoy DTV action movies and Luke Goss, its a very forgivable movie that you can pass your way upon. I give a 4 because its "watchable", the acting is ok, the directing is ok, nothing comes out atrocious or anything, but its just a very mediocre action movie because the plot is not really interesting.

WHERE'S THE MONEY?
nogodnomasters3 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Michael (Luke Gross) is shot and tossed from a plane. He survives. He is a CIA agent who has spent 2 years in deep cover. He wants to go back and kill Mexican crime boss Santiago (Nestor Carbonell), the man who shot him, and to hook up again with Rosita (Carolina Castro) but "it's not about the girl." The CIA doesn't want him to go back. Don't worry, if you missed Michael getting shot and falling out the plane, they play it over and over again as a memory return flashback, adding a little bit more each time.

Michael does go back to avenge his own death, sort of speak, with a plot that lacks complexity. Except for the f-bombs, the PG-13 love scene, and one hip-hop song, this could have been a made for 70's TV movie down to the lame sound track. Luke Gross fans should enjoy his deadpan mannerisms, chase scenes, and shoot outs...especially the one where he is in the open with two hand guns walking/shooting at 4 men with assault rifles using a car for shielding. Don't try this at home.

This is one of Luke Gross' lower tier films, not recommended for people outside of his die hard fan base.

Parental Guide: F-bomb, brief sex, no nudity.

It doesn't get much cheaper
Leofwine_draca7 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
DEAD DROP is another B-movie action flick, cheap enough to look independent. The star is none other than former Bros frontman Luke Goss, looking particularly chiselled in this one. He begins the movie by falling from a plane and somehow surviving, before the rest of the film moves into flashback territory to reveal how he got into that situation in the first place. It's a familiar story of betrayal and special operations, laced with Bourne-influenced fight sequences which are never as bad as they could have been, although there's way too much of the shaky camerawork to overcompensate the budgetary deficiencies. Cole Hauser also shows up in a minor role, but none of it is very interesting.

Decent spy thriller with no story to hold it together.
face-819-93372611 May 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Luke Goss is a good almost Jason Statham most of the time. This time it is almost Statham in one of his lesser roles. Suspend all reality if you wish to enjoy this one. It has the action, and the tense musical score, but it falls on it's face every time it tries to be a complete story. This almost unreal CIA "partner" could be left out of the story altogether if he wasn't needed to stop things from being too easy for Goss' character. oh well. it's new, and it's there so what are you gonna do? The shame of it is the effort that you can see went into making this, and it really would have been more Enjoyable with more work on the story, the people in front of, and behind the camera seemed to be trying hard to make it work anyhow. I do not really recommend this movie, I just think it should be a maybe for someone who just likes action, and cares nothing for plot.

A Tale of Two Morons..
mickeymouseatsivalley30 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
...in what has to be the most moronic script from a film I can ever remember.

Despite endless part flashbacks, all we know is that Moron 1 got shot and fell or maybe was pushed, from a plane, or, as the last flashback suggests, neither Moron 1 nor Moron 2 realised that Moron 1 was starting to stand up next to an open plane door.

After surviving a fall without a parachute from a plane after being shot, Moron 1 then goes to kill Moron 2.

However, Moron 2 captures his love interest, and kills the only other person in his life Moron 1 says he cares about.

Further motivated to kill Moron 2, Moron 1 then goes round killing everyone associated with Moron 2.

However, when Moron 1 finally has Moron 2 in his sights, whilst Moron 2 is holding his love interest, Moron 1 lets Moron 2 get away. Still with his love interest, who dutifully runs away with him .

He then explained to one of Moron 2's drivers who Moron 1 kept in his car boot, that Moron 2 was his best friend so couldn't shoot him, despite killing endless of Moron 2's men who wouldn't or couldn't tell him where to find Moron 2 whom he had told the love interest early in the film that he had to kill.

After standing there, just watching Moron 2 get away with his love interest, Moron 1 then goes and kills more people associated with Moron 2.

To add a bit of a change, we have a CIA killer shooting at Moron 1 whenever the film makers couldn't think of what to do next in the film. Apparently, Moron 1 was a CIA contractor and whilst the CIA would love Moron 2 dead, the CIA was miffed because Moron 1 went after Moron 2 without their blessing, so they kept trying to kill him.

Moron 1 also seemed to have supernatural powers to deflect bullets when walking towards gunmen shooting at him at close quarters, allowing him to shoot any number of gunmen shooting at him.

Moron 1's supernatural powers enabled him to know where Moron 2 was hiding, Moron 2 moving around constantly.

It seems whilst everyone connected with Moron 2 never knew where he was, Moron 1 always seemed to.

Oh, the CIA gunmen ends up shooting the love interest, being a trained sniper with the latest rifle. Luckily, the Moron 2's driver who Moron 1 kept in the car boot, was a surgeon who with his dad saved the girl.

After killing lots more of Moron 2's men, Moron 1 finally has Moron 2 cornered. Instead of shooing him, Moron 1 puts his guns down and they start fighting. Moron 1 wins and takes Moron 2 to a vineyard, telling him to get down on his knees. He tells Moron 2 to walk away., meaning to have a truce where both stop trying to kill the other.

Instead of accepting this offer to allow him to live, Moron 2 then says he can't. So Moron 1 then finally shoots him.

The uninspiring beards both Morons sported, added to the absurdity of the film.

Still, all films have a target audience, and perhaps this was made to target morons - and I have to include myself as one, as despite realising after the first five minutes the film was going to be moronic, I, um, still watched it.

Compelling, well-acted film in Dead Drop
Mischief8107 August 2015
Luke Goss turns in his typically gritty, tough-guy performance. Why this guy is mired in B-rate,straight to video films escapes me. He is, essentially, a bald Clint Eastwood or Steve McQueen.

Nestor Carbonell also performs quite well in this, and Caroline Castro is exquisite.

With most action-drama films, this movie takes a while to get there. But once it does, boy... it really goes there.

I don't understand all of the negative ratings. As I write this, it has a 3.9 rating in IMDb. It is much better than that. I give this film a 7/10 only because as a low budget flick, there are some plot holes. But those don't distract from this compelling, if unbelievable story line (and let's be honest--how many flicks in this genre feature the possible rather than the improbable?).

If you're expecting Academy Award stuff, skip this. If you're down for a gritty, thrilling revenge story that's well-acted, settle in and enjoy.

'It aint just angels of mercy that fall from the sky!'
Weirdling_Wolf6 March 2022
I can happily report that low-budget, tibia-thrashingly trashy, bullet-brained action movies are still alive and well in charismatic skell-stomper Luke Goss's fabulously fleet fists! While some consider him to be diabolical dross, personally, I think the smoulderingly sexy, sleek-limbed Goss is a legit B-Movie boss! While recycling a far from original premise, 'Dead Drop' remains a serviceable, albeit generic, frequently bloody, seamily south of the border, revenge-fuelled DTV actioner, and I enjoyed the swelteringly sun-hazed Mexico-set backdrop, effectively lending this gritty tale of deadly C. I. A. Duplicity, and righteously unleashed vengeance an ersatz Peckinpah vibe!

Dead Drop's notable faults are that the no less reliable B-Warrior Cole Hauser is criminally underused here, and, frustratingly, the prosaic text is frequently uninvolving. On the upside, capable director R. Ellis Frazier is clearly forged from the same energized B-Movie mettle as martial arts mavens Ernie Barbarash, and Keoni Waxman, since Frazier successfully keeps his freight train of bitter revenge moving at a distractingly swift pace. As a momentary digression, Waxman made the altogether decent Goss-starring actioner 'Killing Salazar', which is arguably well worth a shot for fellow Goss gourmands! All the film's predictably stodgy, Alpha-dude ingredients are luxuriously leavened by the uncommonly sublime presence of dusky starlet Carolina Castro, playing Goss's especially exquisite damsel in distress 'Rosalita'. While I can accept 'Dead Drop' as having somewhat limited appeal outside of the myopic realms of B-Action fandom, this mucho-macho Mexican slug-fest excitingly proves yet again that gorgeously grizzled, steely-eyed Goss is a more than credible contemporary action hero!
