- When a 7-billion-year-old alien warhead crash lands in the South American jungle, the Defenders must retrieve the device and deactivate it. After Ming fails to stop the Defenders from escaping with it, he hacks into their Battle Simulation Room in an attempt to destroy them
- Rick has invented a thought-transference cap which, when connected to the computer in the Battle Simulation Room, allows the wearer to create simulations of anything they can imagine. The device proves to be a big hit with Kshin who, like many children, has a very vivid imagination which he uses to create a simulation in which Rick, LJ and Jedda (along with Kisa) are being menaced by a sea monster. However, there's nothing imaginary about the alert which Dynak issues moments after this simulation ends.
Dynak tells the Defenders that an alien warhead called a Doomsday Device, which is capable of wiping out all life on an entire planet while leaving the planet intact, is on a collision course with Earth. Flash asks if it's one of Ming's weapons, but Dynak replies that it is not and that it is a remnant of a war fought in another galaxy 7 billion years ago, making it older than Earth. However, the vacuum of space has preserved it perfectly, meaning the Defenders must retrieve and disarm it before Ming can get his hands on it. Dynak reports that the Doomsday Device will land in the South American jungle, and Flash, Mandrake, the Phantom and Lothar set off there, leaving the kids to work out how to disarm it.
Meanwhile, Ming has also learned of the existence of the Doomsday Device and sends Garax to retrieve it and bring it to his new asteroid base. When Octon reports that a Defender ship is en route to the weapon's landing site, Ming gives orders for his fleet to be launched in order to intercept the Defenders. He then reveals that he plans to take control of the Defenders' Battle Simulation computer and, with it, their minds.
Later, Flash and the others arrive in South America and are flying over the jungle when they see the Doomsday Device in a clearing. It looks as though they have beaten Ming's forces to the weapon, but moments later they see one of Ming's scout ships dead ahead. They try to stop it from getting back to the main fleet, only to find themselves surrounded by Ming's ships. Garax shoots them down and they are forced to bail out, landing among the trees some distance from the Doomsday Device. The Phantom leads Flash, Mandrake and Lothar through the jungle to where the weapon landed, but they are then left with the problem of how to get it back to Monitor without a ship. Moments later, they discover that Garax and the Ice Robots are already on the scene. Garax claims the Doomsday Device in Ming's name and, when Flash and the others try to rush him, fires a ray which traps the four Defenders in a giant ice cube.
Lothar tries to use his strength to break out of the cube, but the cube is made of Mongo ice and cannot be broken by physical force. However, Mandrake is able to use his magic to melt the cube, allowing himself and the others to escape. They go to where Garax and the Ice Robots are loaded the Doomsday Device into one of Ming's ships and, after a brief skirmish, commandeer the ship and take off in it, taking the Doomsday Device with them. Garax reports the loss of the ship and the Doomsday Device to Ming, who berates him for his incompetence, adding that there is now only one way to get the Doomsday Device back. When the Defenders next use the Battle Simulation Room, Ming will take control of the simulation and destroy them.
At Monitor, the kids have spent most of the day in the Battle Simulation Room, with Kshin creating various scenarios for Rick, LJ and Jedda to face. Just as Kshin is about to begin another simulation, the attack siren goes off and Dynak reports that one of Ming's ships is approaching Monitor. All four kids immediately drop what they are doing and hurry to the main control room, where they prepare to shoot the ship down. Their first attempt ends in a miss and LJ is about to try again when Rick stops him, saying he has recognised Flash's flying style and telling Dynak to open the landing bay, allowing Flash and the others to enter Monitor.
Disarming the Doomsday Device requires a special deactivation code, which Dynak needs 24 hours to solve. Kshin suggests they pass the time in the Battle Simulation Room, but Jedda says she, Rick and LJ have had enough, so Kshin gives Flash, Mandrake, the Phantom and Lothar a taste of what his imagination can come up with. This time, Kshin creates a simulation of a haunted house and graveyard and pits his elders against various monsters. But Ming uses an override device to take control of the simulation, meaning those inside are now in genuine danger. Kshin, finding that the Battle Simulation computer won't obey him, enters the simulation himself to warn Flash and the others and finds himself being chased by three skeletons which quickly corner him. Hearing Kshin calling for help, Mandrake uses the light from his wand to drive the monsters away, before he and the others rescue Kshin.
Flash, Mandrake, the Phantom, Lothar and Kshin must now escape from the simulation, but they are only able to do so thanks to Rick, LJ and Jedda who wreck the Battle Simulation computer after finding that it won't switch off. Later, Rick reports that the Battle Simulation Room will be out of action for a while, but Kshin says he doesn't mind as his imagination needs a rest. Meanwhile, Ming tells Octon that, once the Defenders have repaired the Battle Simulation computer, he will capture Kshin and use the boy's imagination for his own nefarious purposes.
