Almost exactly one year ago today, it was announced that Christina Hendricks of the TV shows Mad Men and Good Girls had signed on to star in the psychological thriller Reckoner… but Hendricks has since run into scheduling issues, so Deadline reports that she has had to drop out of the project, with Noomi Rapace of Prometheus and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo stepping in to replace her.
Based on a short story by author Rachel Ingalls, Reckoner will mark the feature directorial debut of Nissar Modi, who previously wrote the 2013 horror film Breaking at the Edge and the 2015 sci-fi film Z for Zachariah. The story of Reckoner centers on an affluent woman whose carefully constructed life is disrupted by a young man connected to a tightly-held secret from her past.
The film is being produced by XYZ Films and Two & Two Pictures, with XYZ Films providing the financing.

Roadside Attractions has announced that director Craig Zobel’s Z For Zachariah will now open in theaters August 28, 2015. The film stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Margot Robbie and Chris Pine.
Collider said in their Sundance 2015 review:
“After seeing Robbie in Z for Zachariah, I have no doubt she’s the real deal. She was good in The Wold of Wall Street, but her performance here displays her range as she shows us a woman who is reserved but also strong, and while An is certainly attractive, the movie makes sure that’s not her defining attribute. Ejiofor continues to give excellent performance, and this is Pine’s best dramatic work to date. They are the only three actors in the film, and they are all astounding in every scene as they perfectly match Zobel’s carefully crafted tone.”

Watch the new trailer for Z For Zachariah starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Margot Robbie and Chris Pine.
The film will open in theaters August 21.
In the not-distant future, a disastrous radioactive event has obliterated most of civilization. Yet somewhere deep in the American South is a valley that remains untouched; evidence of a micro-climate or some other miracle. A young farm girl, Ann Burden (Margot Robbie), is grittily surviving on her own in this valley, fearing she may actually be the proverbial last woman on earth. Then, she discovers the most astonishing sight of her life: another human being.
John Loomis (Chiwetel Ejiofor) arrives in the valley a cipher; a distraught scientist nearly driven mad by radiation exposure and his desperate search for others. He and Ann share little in common beyond survival. Even so, as Ann nurses Loomis back to health, they build a fragile, imperative strand of trust across...

Move over, Katniss and Tris – Z for Zachariah ratchets up the tension on the post-apocalyptic romance genre, enlisting the furiously talented trio of Margot Robbie, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Chris Pine to play the corners of a love triangle that emerges when a scientist (Ejiofor) shacks up with a naive mountain girl (Robbie) in the aftermath of a devastating nuclear war, only for their relationship to be threatened by the arrival of another charismatic survivor with eyes for the girl.
The new trailer for the pic, which was adapted from Robert C. O’Brien’s acclaimed novel, is perhaps most exciting in that it marks a very different type of project for director Craig Zobel, who previously helmed nail-bitingly tense drama Compliance and small-time comedy Great Wall of Sound. One of the connecting threads between those two films was Zobel’s handle on the human element, and that’s something the...

Another novel set for adaptation, Z For Zachariah will expand further on Hollywood’s latest trend. A world struck by devastation. The project was announced last summer by Compliance director Craig Zobel, hot off the back of his success at Sundance. A press release has revealed this week that the film has gathered steam with three new leads as Chris Pine, Amanda Seyfried and Chiwitel Ejiofor have now been confirmed to star.

No, this is not an Amazing Spider-Man-style lightning reboot of horror remake Mother’s Day. Nor, as far as we can tell, is it another one of those rom-coms built around a particular holiday. The new Mother's Day does sound like it’ll feature a big ensemble cast though, and Andie MacDowell, along with real-life daughter Rainey Qualley, has now signed on.So far, writer-director Paul Duddridge has recruited one mother / daughter team in Susan Sarandon and Eva Amurri Martino, alongside Christina Ricci, for a tale that follows the relationship between 12 mothers and their daughters. Exactly what the plot will involve has not been revealed, but you’ve got to figure on a mix of hostile and supportive mother-sprog teams. This isn’t the first time that MacDowell has shared the screen with her progeny: she acted alongside Qualley in Mighty Fine, which arrived in Us cinemas last month but...
