Emily Lape's debut.
The film is heavily influenced by Fellini's 8 1/2 (1963) and a slew of self indulgent student films where the directors make the film about themselves. "They always wind up being a self-serving, narcissistic stroke fest. I thought it would be kind of fun and meta to poke fun while also venting my frustrations making SCIENCE. Ultimately, I wound up doing exactly what I was mocking".
The film was written while director Jordan Noce was struggling to complete filming on his first feature film SCIENCE (2004).
Insipid was shot and wrapped in the fall/winter of 2004. The film was completed in late January of 2005 after director Jordan Noce moved to Los Angeles.
The red 88' Jeep Cherokee Insipid drives is also featured in the cult horror film Behind the mask: the rise of Leslie Vernon (2006) Which director Jordan Noce was an assistant editor on.
