It was the year of 2015 when Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway starred in an iconic film called The Intern. With Nancy Meyers as the director and the writer of the film, the film was bound to be a successful one from the first day.
Hiring Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway in the lead roles was like giving Hans Zimmer a piano as their on-screen chemistry was quite extraordinary. Well, De Niro would go on to love the film so much that he regrets that Hollywood will not make movies like this anymore!

Living screen legend Robert De Niro became uncharacteristically verklempt while discussing his newborn daughter in an interview this week, telling AARP that parenting his baby girl is “wondrous.”
“I’m an 80-year-old dad and it’s great,” De Niro told the magazine for its latest cover story. “Everything that I’m consumed with or worried about… this and that… just goes away when I look at her.”
At that point in the sit-down, which mostly covered De Niro’s seven-decade-spanning career, working with Martin Scorsese and their latest, the Oscar-nominated Killers of the Flower Moon, the veteran actor and nine-time Oscar contender began to tear up. “That in itself is wondrous.”
De Niro, traditionally affable but solidly stoic while discussing his life and work, then quickly composed himself as he shared details about his growing bond with his baby girl; he even compared the experience to time with the daughter...

Nothing gold can stay, and to make room for everything new at Hulu in November, we have to say goodbye to dozens of the series and movies on the platform. The streamer will make room for its upcoming Christmas library by losing some of its horror-themed titles throughout the month, including “Stephen King's It,” most of its “Saw” franchise, and “Shaun Of The Dead.” Other major titles leaving the platform include Emma Stone’s breakthrough comedy “Easy A,” the Nora Ephron classic “Sleeping in Seattle,” and more.

Thomasin McKenzie has a doozy of a day, the kind she’ll never forget in the first trailer for “Eileen.” Set during a grim 1964 Massachusetts winter, the William Oldroyd-directed noir concerns a young and impressionable secretary who becomes understandably enraptured by a new counselor (Anne Hathaway) at the prison where she works. The trailer doesn’t spell out what diabolical doings will be done, but the implication is Hathaway goes full femme fatale.
Alongside its two top-billed stars, “Eileen” features Shea Whigham, Siobhan Fallon Hogan and Owen Teague (who will soon headline “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” alongside Freya Allen).

The ‘Taxi Driver’ actor, who recently became a dad for the seventh time, looked sharp as he stepped out in New York City. Gayle King is sharing her perspective on her recent interview with Robert De Niro‘s girlfriend, Tiffany Chen, who opened up to the broadcast journalist about the scary postpartum complication she endured after giving birth to the 79-year-old Oscar-winning actor’s seventh child.
On Thursday, “CBS Mornings” shared a preview clip of King’s interview with Chen, where the 45-year-old reveals that she developed Bell’s palsy, a medical condition that causes facial paralysis, after welcoming her and De Niro’s daughter, Gia Virginia Chen-De Niro, in April.
According to the Mayo Clinic, Bell’s palsy is “a condition that causes sudden weakness in the muscles on one side of the face. In most cases, the weakness is temporary and significantly improves over weeks. The weakness makes half of the face appear to droop. Smiles are one-sided, and the eye on the affected side resists closing.” The exact cause is unknown.

It was later confirmed that the mother of his child is his girlfriend, Tiffany Chen. They met on the set of The Intern (2015), a film where De Niro co-stars with Anne Hathaway. De Niro was cast as the intern and Chen was cast as a tai chi instructor.
De Niro and Chen were first seen together in 2021 while vacationing in the south of France. There they were photographed kissing and holding hands.

After Netflix plugged the plug on Nancy Meyers’ expensive romantic-comedy movie earlier this week, it seems that Warner Bros may come to the rescue.
Nancy Meyers had spent over a year developing Paris Paramount for Netflix, but she and the streaming service clashed over the budget. Nancy Meyers wanted at least $150 million, which would have made it one of the most expensive romantic comedies of all time, but Netflix wouldn’t budge past $130 million. It was reported just last week that Scarlett Johansson, Penélope Cruz, Michael Fassbender and Owen Wilson were circling roles in the movie, and it was said that at least $80 million of that budget would have gone to the talent. Sources told THR that Warner Bros was “attracted to the idea of a ready-made hot project with an A-list cast and possible summer start date.“

A day removed from Netflix walking away from Nancy Meyers’ next film, which some reports pegged was shaping up to be the most expensive rom-com ever made, Warner Bros. Pictures is now circling acquiring the project, IndieWire has learned.
No deals are in place just yet and everything is in early days, but if it does go forward, it would almost certainly now be released theatrically. That would certainly help considering estimates that the film could be budgeted between $130-150 million (A source told IndieWire on Wednesday that the $130 million figure is inaccurate and that the film was greenlit for a different amount).
Though talent like Scarlett Johansson, Penelope Cruz, Owen Wilson, and Michael Fassbender were all circling the film, which is tentatively titled “Paris Paramount,” it’s also unclear whether any of that cast would carry over on the project should it land at Warner Bros., or if that same budget keeps.

Nancy Meyers’ $130 million ensemble romantic comedy “Paris Paramount” is being eyed to land at Warner Bros. Discovery, according to an insider with knowledge of the project. The studio is in an exploratory phase to add it to its slate.
Netflix pulled the plug on the project earlier this week due to reported budget issues that indicated Meyers was pushing for a $150 million budget but the streamer wouldn’t budge above $130 million.
Scarlett Johansson, Penélope Cruz, Michael Fassbender and Owen Wilson were previously in talks for roles in the film which centered on an above-the-line filmmaking duo who reunite on set after falling in and out of love with one another.

The Nancy Meyers movie that recently fell apart at Netflix over budget issues may be revived at Warner Bros.
After being set up at Netflix for over a year, Meyers’ long-awaited return to the director’s chair began to fall apart last week over disagreements about the budget. Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Warners, attracted to the idea of a ready-made hot project with an A-list cast and possible summer start date, may be stepping in to pick it up. Exploratory talks are underway, according to several sources.
Scarlett Johansson was attached to play the lead role in Meyers’ feature, with Penélope Cruz, Owen Wilson and Michael Fassbender also eying the project. Meyers will write, direct and produce the comedy, which is currently known as Paris Paramount, although it is not clear if that’s the actual title, a working title or a code name.

After Netflix pulled the plug on Nancy Meyers’ $130 million ensemble comedy “Paris Paramount” on Tuesday, Jimmy Fallon is pretty confident in what will happen next. According to the “Tonight Show” host, the streamer will probably win back filmmaker Nancy Meyers in a very Nancy Meyers-esque way.
The romantic comedy was expected to star Scarlett Johansson, Owen Wilson, Michael Fassbender and Penelope Cruz, and followed a filmmaking duo who reunite on set after falling in and out of love with one another. The film would’ve marked Meyers’ first feature in the director’s chair since Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro’s “The Intern.”
In the end, it was budget clashes that sealed the fate of the film, as Meyers wanted a budget of $150 million, while Netflix drew the line at $130 million, an insider told TheWrap. But Fallon thinks maybe this is just the climax of a Nancy Meyers rom-com about a Nancy Meyers rom-com.

Netflix has scrapped another exciting project — this time, from renowned filmmaker Nancy Meyers.
Meyers was set to collaborate with the streamer for her newest big-budgeted romantic comedy "Paris Paramount," but Netflix has pulled the plug on the movie (via The Wrap). The writer-director has helmed several critically acclaimed romantic comedies through the decades, including "Father of the Bride," "It's Complicated," "The Holiday," and "The Parent Trap." Her last project was the 2015 comedy-drama "The Intern," starring actors Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway.
"Paris Paramount" is said to have been a working title for the project. The film was in negotiation for a $150 million budget, which would make it one of the most expensive romcoms to date. Unfortunately, despite its impressive star cast, the streamer has decided not to proceed with the film.

Twas the budget that killed Nancy Meyers’ latest romantic-comedy, one top talent representative told TheWrap.
Word dropped Tuesday afternoon that Netflix isn’t moving forward on “Paris Paramount,” a romantic comedy that was expected to star Scarlett Johansson, Owen Wilson, Michael Fassbender and Penelope Cruz about a filmmaking duo who reunite on set after falling in and out of love with one another. Meyers, who hasn’t directed a feature since Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro’s “The Intern,” wanted a budget of $150 million, while Netflix drew the line at $130 million, an insider told TheWrap.
“That sounds like too high of a budget for [Netflix],” a well-respected film director told TheWrap on what they would consider to be a medium-budget movie.
“Nancy Meyers always has budget issues,” the top talent rep said.
With no residuals or back-end bonuses on the table to offset costs, $80 million of that budget would’ve gone to above-the-line expenses.

Netflix has “axed” a new Nancy Meyers romantic comedy following a dispute with the director.
The filmmaker has lined up her next project, which will be her first feature film since The Intern in 2015.
Titled Paris Paramount, the comedy, announced in April 2022, follows a filmmaking duo who reunite on set after a failed romance years before.
Paris Paramount is eyeing an A-list cast, including Scarlett Johansson and Owen Wilson alongside Penélope Cruz and Michael Fassbender.
According to Deadline, it’s this cast that may have contributed to Netflix canning the project, as Meyers is said to have requested a higher budget to fulfill an $80m (£65.8m) payment to the main cast members.
The film was originally budgeted at $130m (£106.9m), which is $100m (£82.2m) more than The Intern.
The streaming service was ready to commit to this price – but the outlet claims that Meyers wanted $30m (£24.6m) more, which has...

We’ll have to wait a little longer for the next movie from Nancy Meyers as Netflix has pulled the plug on what was to be a star-studded romantic comedy.
The reason for Netflix choosing to axe the project comes down to the budget. Nancy Meyers was wanting at least $150 million dollars, which would have made it one of the most expensive romantic comedies of all time, but Netflix wouldn’t budge past $130 million. That’s still an awfully high budget for a movie of this type, but Meyers typically employs an all-star cast who demand big salaries. It was reported just last week that Scarlett Johansson, Penélope Cruz, Michael Fassbender and Owen Wilson were circling roles in the movie.

Update [Tuesday March 14, 11:14 p.m.]: Moviegoers agonizing over the breakdown of Nancy Meyers’ latest film (one that was meant to bring her out of retirement), don’t cry into your cashmere just yet. News hit earlier on Tuesday that Netflix was no longer developing the new rom-com from the iconic director, but sources with knowledge of the project said that filmmakers are looking into other options to get it to screen. The untitled film was reported to star Scarlett Johansson, Penélope Cruz, Owen Wilson and Michael Fassbender. Pending talent availability, the project will be shopped to prospective buyers as a package, one source added. Representatives for Meyers did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

A new Nancy Meyers movie that was meant to go forward at Netflix, a romantic comedy that had actors such as Scarlett Johansson, Penelope Cruz, Owen Wilson, and Michael Fassbender all circling and that had a reported budget of upwards of $130 million, will not be moving forward at Netflix, an individual with knowledge told IndieWire.
The film, which had a reported, working title of “Paris Paramount,” would’ve been Meyers’ first since 2015’s “The Intern.” But $130 million is a steep budget for a genre that usually costs way less. A source told IndieWire that the $130 million figure is inaccurate and that the film was greenlit for a different amount. As reported in multiple outlets, Meyers and the streamer reportedly could not come to an agreement on the scope of the budget. If it did go forward, it easily would’ve been the most expensive romantic comedy of all time.
Netflix had no comment.

Netflix is shutting down its Nancy Meyers movie, the star-studded romantic comedy that was expected to be her first directing vehicle in nearly a decade.
According to sources, Netflix and Meyers could not come to an agreement on the budget. Meyers is said to have asked for a budget of at least $150 million, but the studio did not want to go over $130 million. It was a steep price tag for a genre that is usually more in the midbudget range and one that could have made it the most expensive romantic comedy of all time. Meyers, who last directed the 2015 Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro feature The Intern, has commanded budgets on the higher end for the genre and is known for her work with big stars such as Jack Nicholson and Meryl Streep. She is also known for her Architectural Digest-worthy production design.

Florence Pugh has a checklist when choosing roles: they must be intense, and the character must cry…a lot.
“It’s no secret that I only pick very intense roles,” Pugh said during the premiere of Zach Braff’s “A Good Person,” in which she plays an opioid addict grappling with grief following a fatal car accident (via Variety). “This isn’t the first time I’ve been reduced to tears pretty much every single scene that I’ve been in. I like finding the ugliness in humans. I love being raw. I love being given a script where it challenges myself and I have never picked a role unless I’ve been scared of it.”
Pugh added of writer-director Braff, with whom she was romantically involved with for years leading up to the film, “And this is someone that knew me, knew my potential and wanted to work with me.

It has been eight years since Nancy Meyers made a movie (that would be 2015's The Intern), but it appears she's coming back strong with big plans for a new film. Meyers has Scarlett Johansson, Penelope Cruz, Owen Wilson and Michael Fassbender circling the lead roles in a new, yet-to-be-officially-titled romantic comedy.
As first reported at Puck and since confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter the movie – which Meyers will write, direct and produce – is currently known as Paris Paramount and will follow a talented young writer/director who falls in love with a producer, with the pair ending up making several successful films before calling it quits romantically and professionally. The two are forced back together, however, when a great new project arises, and they find themselves teamed up again and having to deal with high stakes and volatile stars. å

If you ask most film fans, they’d probably say Nancy Meyers is the queen of the rom-com. Over the ‘90s and ‘00s, some of the most popular and well-reviewed romantic comedies were probably at least written, if not directed, by the filmmaker. Sadly, we haven’t had a new film from the writer-director since 2015’s “The Intern.” However, that’s about to change in a big, big way.

Sources say actor deals have not yet closed, as budgeting is still being worked through. Netflix had no comment.
The film currently titled Paris Paramount, which we were first to tell you about in April of last year, tells the story of an above-the-line filmmaking duo who reunite (begrudgingly) on set after falling in and out of love with one another.

Streamers have been tightening the belt lately in the wake of a year that saw plenty of economic disruption in the industry, but Netflix is reportedly set to spend a pretty penny on something I think we can all agree is worth investing in: Nancy Meyers' gorgeous movie kitchens. According to the Puck newsletter (via The Film Stage), new details are emerging on a previously announced Meyers movie set for Netflix, including a budget of up to $130 million.
While the film's title hasn't been announced, the latest reports also include an impressive cast list featuring Penélope Cruz, Michael Fassbender, Owen Wilson, and Scarlett Johansson. Meyers' last feature directorial project was 2015's "The Intern," starring Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway. Her filmography to date includes several beloved romances, including "The Parent Trap," "It's Complicated," and "The Holiday." Meyers' work has become synonymous with delightful scripts and a specific home aesthetic,...

Nancy Meyers’ return to the director’s chair is getting underway.
After not directing a movie since 2015’s The Intern, the filmmaker known for her upscale romantic comedies is back with a project that is attracting A-list talent. Scarlett Johansson is circling the lead role in Meyers’ upcoming feature for Netflix, multiple sources tell The Hollywood Reporter, with Penélope Cruz, Owen Wilson and Michael Fassbender also eying the project.
Netflix had no comment.
Meyers will write, direct and produce the comedy, which is currently known as Paris Paramount, although it is not clear if that’s the actual title, a working title or a code name.
Sources say the story centers on a talented young writer-director who falls in love with a producer, with the pair making several successful films before calling it quits romantically and professionally. The two are forced back together, however, when a great new project arises,...

Update: The film is titled Paris Paramount, Deadline reports. See the original story below.
If the world of rom-coms has felt a bit lackluster in the last eight or so years, it’s clearly because we’ve been missing out on the bourgeoisie auteurist comforts of Nancy Meyers. Following 2015’s The Intern, she linked up with Netflix to produce her next film and now a few more details have arrived surrounding the rom-com.
Scarlett Johansson, Owen Wilson, Penélope Cruz, and Michael Fassbender will star in the project, according to the latest edition of Matthew Belloni’s Puck newsletter. He also reports Netflix has greenlit a major budget in the $130 million range for the film, which is expected to begin shooting this May in Los Angeles. While some may balk at the lavish amount, it’s not wildly out of the $70-$85 million ballpark she worked with a decade or two ago.

After months of speculation, Amazon Studios has made it official with seasoned movie executive Courtenay Valenti. While many expected her to take the top film job at MGM, acquired by Amazon for $8.5 billion last year, Valenti has hammered out a hulked-up role that will give her considerable influence in feature programming.
Amazon Studios chief Jennifer Salke told staff on Tuesday that Valenti has been named head of film, streaming and theatrical at both Amazon Studios and MGM. She will report directly to Salke, and be responsible for delivering “a well-rounded selection of tentpoles, prestige films and genre fare,” according to a memo.
This includes a “robust theatrical plan,” Salke added, which was teased last November when Bloomberg reported that Amazon will invest $1 billion in films made specifically for theaters this year (a divergent strategy from their bread-and-butter of bolstering subscriptions for Amazon Prime Video).

Courtenay Valenti, a former executive at Warner Bros., has been named the new film head at both Amazon and MGM Studios. Amazon and MGM Studios head Jennifer Salke made the announcement in a memo to staff on Tuesday. Read her announcement below.
The news comes as Amazon looks to make a big push into theatrical, starting with the Ben Affleck film “Air.” Valenti will take over for interim head Julie Rapaport. Valenti begins on March 1 as Head of Film, Streaming and Theatrical, reporting directly to Salke.
Valenti had been rumored and was being vetted for the gig for months, and the oversight of MGM’s film team was the last stone left unturned in the wake of Amazon’s big re-organization back in November. Sources told IndieWire in that span she’s the one for the job, especially if Amazon is serious about its theatrical ambitions.
