Enough stock-footage to shame Ed Wood.
glanzer-markus25 April 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Hyperfutura is proof that the tradition of replacing actual work or budget with randomly selected stock-footage still is alive and well. The Movie consists of about 6 actors, one camera, about 60 minutes of - supposedly open-domain stock footage, a soundtrack, and a vague arrangement of all these elements to something remotely resembling a plot.

After a two screens full of text meant to explain the history of the world this piece plays in (as if that would matter anyway) which is in short your generic apocalypse, but apparently everyone is fine, and the only problem seems to be unemployment. The about 20 minutes of genuine Film are constantly accompanied by stock-footage via split-screens and overlays. Add a strange attempt of humor to the mix - Defibrillators in this Universe are called 'Hypergasm' for example. It's use is marked by a straight fade to a sex- scene, complete with overlaid Saturn V takeoff footage.

In general the movie has a weird religious vibe to it, feels a lot like your generic info-warrior "truth-o-mentary", and generally lacks a consistent idea, a plot, actors and originality.

If you like loud punk-rock trash cinema that desperately tries to be 'artistic' (or just lazy, pick your poison), you might actually like that movie.

Some interesting concepts but overall a piece of trash
leftistcritic3 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
After seeing the two very different reviews on here, one very positive and another very negative, I was optimistic. But the movie on the whole is weak, has too many spliced video clips within, making seem like a strange, psychedelic trip or a weird YouTube video with bad production value. That nature of the movie made it a less enjoyable experience than it otherwise would have been. Perhaps there are some interesting concepts like the desire to fight against "the system" or criticizing medical experimentation and efforts at mind control. However, on the whole, this movie does not work and seems like a cheap version of 1984, although not as virulently anti-communist, making the latter terrible as a result. This is evidenced by the fact that Winston and Julia in that story are imprisoned together, similar to this story where the protagonist and a female are also together, giving him the illusion he is escaping.

Some may like the quality of this film, but I think that the fact that it includes public-domain clips (like some obviously of U$ military action in the Vietnam War) to visualize what is happening is utterly weak. Even after all this, the question remains at the end of the film: has the protagonist really escaped or is this just a game by his captors? This question is never fully answered, as one could argue either way. The special effects were terrible as were many other effects, but the storyline was not completely fanciful, so that gives it some credibility. It reminds me a bit of Mr. Robot, in that you are questioning what is reality and what is fiction, which is always an interesting topic.

Even so, I would never recommend anyone watch this movie any time in the future due to its poor production value and the fact that on the whole this movie does not work, which is unfortunate because there is good potential. Please avoid this movie at all costs and don't waste your time watching it!

This is unwatchable trash
reallytorkedoff-8746414 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I started fast-forwarding at about 25 minutes and gave up entirely at 40 minutes.

The only thing I can get from this 'movie' is that the creators are trying to see if they can induce ADHD in an otherwise normal person.

It seems to be an unending series of smash cuts with no apparent plot or reason.

It is, in a single word - 'crap'.

Instead of watching this you should do something else more pleasant, like hitting your foot with a hammer.

The "1984" of the new millennium
thepotatoHasEyes18 February 2013
the intro has a quality feel , but it is "b" movie grade, good "b" movie. And if you remember "1984" was "b" grade also.

It starts to kick around 12 minutes in , and if you like sci fi and b movies , this is a great movie,

i found the concept disturbing because i could see our society getting to the point that when you can not pay rent, they just make you disappear(paranoid me)- remember how the concepts in 1984 were so far fetched , now look at how accurate that movie was.

A few scenes were like - i'm guessing- an acid trip (the nurse is cute)- if you are going to watch this movie you must make it to 35:35--

it gets a little "matrixy"

I really found the concepts and writing very intriguing, which kept me interested but i see that this movie has over a hundred views with no review and little rating ... leads me to believe and state that this movie might not be for everyone-- I recommend it to the "b" movie/sci-fi crowd and i would like to see this creative team with more money

Psychedelic Era
bemyfriend-4018410 March 2021
Psychedelic era type film; circa 1967, when people were experimenting with LSD. Vietnam era footage completes the space/time LSD trip, into that period of history. A reprise/repeat/rerun of many movies from the late 60's, early 70's; including A Clockwork Orange. Saw this on Tubi, the free streaming site; which is a real trashcan of unwanted films.

Very visually oriented film
robotmonkeycat6 September 2022
Lot of flash and only a little substance*, but that was fine, as it doesn't really need the latter for enjoyment or to get its point across. (*There was probably more in the poem on which the film was based. It is read during the closing credits.)

Will watch again at some point, but it would most likely be done when I'm in a drug induced haze. It seem very fitting for that kind of mood.

Not one I would recommend as I definitely feel it's not for everyone, and I'm only doing a review here as all the other reviews seemed fairly negative.

Ad free YouTube video I watched is of excellent quality and appears to have been uploaded by the creator. Also, available on Tubi.
