2013 was an absolutely amazing year for television, with shows like Breaking Bad and Spartacus going out with some of their best episodes yet and new series like Hannibal and Orphan Black bursting onto the scene. Continuing favorites have come back stronger than ever and just like last year, a few new series have quickly made strong names for themselves as well; the variety of truly great television, from comedy to drama to the many series that don’t so easily fit either description, has never been so pronounced.
However, with so much TV out there, some of the best episodes (and series in general) of the year have flown under the radar, so a handful of Sound on Sight’s podcasters...

What a great time to be a TV junkie. NBC’s “Community” is back in prime form with the return of Dan Harmon. HBO launches the incredible “True Detective” on Sunday and “Sherlock” returns stateside next weekend. There’s enough quality out there that FX’s “Justified” could get lost in the shuffle. Don’t let that happen.
With a smart pair of season-opening episodes, “Justified” is back with its complex blend of humor, action, wit, and southern charm. As the writers do every season, the tone has been tweaked again this year, resulting in a start that feels darker, deadlier, and more dangerous than the last few seasons. This is great TV.
Television Rating: 4.5/5.0
The season premiere, “A Murder of Crowes,” introduces us to who I suspect will be the “big bad” for the season, Daryl Crowe Jr. (Michael Rapaport, who seems to be pushing his accent a bit...

Showrunners have been dropping on AMC's "The Walking Dead" faster than a walker on the business end of one of Daryl's arrows. The next to go is Glenn Mazzara, and recently he spoke about being a showrunner and more.
Scenestr caught up with Mazzara recently, and the man had the following to say about the situation, the current state of affairs, the finale, and where the show is going in Season 4...
On the death of the much beloved Axel, “To be very honest, I didn’t want to kill off any of the major characters. We obviously didn’t want to kill Rick. Carol was on the chopping block, but I didn’t want to kill Carol because we have a story coming up with her. We looked at the possibility of killing Beth. I don’t think that actor knows that. You know, I love Emily Kinney. But...

It’s the most wonderful time of the year for wishes to come true.
As the holidays are upon us, we’re making lists and checking them twice, raiding stores for sales and keeping our fingers crossed for the perfect present.
I like to think I’ve been a good TV watcher this year, so hopefully all of my TV wishes will be fulfilled. I may be a little greedy, but they’re worthwhile — I promise.
So sit back with some fruit cake, latkes or what have you, and take a look at my 20 TV wishes this holiday season.
