Everything without the Bad Batch is ironically better.

Warning: Spoilers
"Do you know what makes us different than battle droids? We make our own decisions... and we have to live with them." -Commander Cody Duude this episode was way better than the first 2! Cody is back, and we get a more in depth analysis of why The Empire replaced clones with stormtroopers.

The political intrigue of this episode was fantastic; we get flashbacks to how it was before The Empire, and how the Separatists were actually correct on a lot of things.

The Bad Batch was nowhere to be found in this episode. I can't believe I'm saying it, but they're the worst part of their own show. Crosshair is officially the best character in this show, and he's not even apart of the Bad Batch anymore.

9.5/10 for me. I sure hope we get to see what happened to Cody...

Peak Batch?!?!
BenRaeside11 January 2023
This new episode (besides the first episode of season 1, and even then this holds it own) might be the best episode of the show. The character work done here for our two lead characters is done so well. I especially love how they handle a specific fan favorite character and his journey throughout this episode. The Empire is once again brutal in its tactics and it's a nice throughline to see the start of what becomes a truly corrupt state in Andor.

This episode is what drew me to the concept of this show. Clones trying to figure out their place in this Galaxy and that's exactly what I got here. If the team can keep this style up, this season will be a significant step up from season 1.

Also, I don't know what Kevin Kiner was on but it must have been the same thing as when he scored the season finale of the Clone Wars. The music in the episode, particularly the end of it, was so haunting and really drove home the message of the episode. Great stuff. One might even say Peak.

A very dark and depressing episode in disguised
ronniewhitedx13 January 2023
This is kind of peak Star Wars for me personally. Peeling back the layers and really showing us what it means to have lived in the early days of the Empire and what that means specifically for the clones and the old separatists. This episode really doesn't hold any punches when it comes to showing the audience exactly the kind of treatment the dying Republic was given. I got an overwhelming amount of anxiety and empty stomach feelings while watching this. Truly a masterpiece and it didn't even follow the main cast. Showing the exact mentality of the Empire compared to both the Republic and the separatists is harrowing. You know things are truly fallen to hell when Dooku was right.

This episode made me cry.
wetmars14 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
As if the finale of Clone Wars wasn't dark, mature, and depressing enough. It genuinely hurts my soul to see Commander Cody seem so out of place in the new era of the Galactic. Instead of the Bad Batch being underdeveloped, seeing two clone veterans with actual solid characters feels refreshing as they worked together, aren't always complaining, and especially the dialogue is more engaging. I wish I could go more in-depth within this episode, but my appetite for well-detailed reviews has decreased.

Seeing the B-1 Battle Droids, droidekas, and commando droids again was cool. The first and second acts felt like your typical '08 CW episode that hit me with a massive wave of nostalgia. This is so far my all-time favorite Bad Batch episode. Of course, there's Rex, but that two-parter was a thriller.

Now if this show could STOP IT WITH THE CID MISSIONS THRILLER EPISODES. "Take on daring mercenary missions in the aftermath of the Clone Wars." Give us something more interesting rather than the same stuff every week.

IMDB, pls don't decline this review again.

9/10.

I applaud the complexity
movieturtle201311 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
With the Bad Batch, we get a glimpse of how the clones are treated post-Order 66. To most of them, it becomes clearer and clearer that their relevance as soldiers comes to an end, which makes it heartbreaking to see that Crosshair doesn't realise this. In his eyes, he is a good soldier who follows orders. He doesn't question them.

It is a great juxtaposition, seeing a Crosshair who is a 'defective clone' and should be more deviant but is in fact more obedient than regular clones should be.

I was sure that Crosshair would notice the faults of the Empire after Kamino, but the show doesn't allow us to see more than small glimpses of potential doubt. He remains loyal, but after his mission with Cody, perhaps this time he'll wake up and see just how dispensible he and the other clones are.

Overall, the episode was amazing and the score was on point. I can't wait for next week.

So much for peace...

This episode was absolute gold! Finally we begin to see the potential of this show! The first two episodes were fine but nothing special! This.. this was special!

We dive deep into the world, after the empire was formed and everything is a lot more grey than we are used to! Nothing is as easy as it seems with both sides believing they are doing the right thing! I am glad Crosshair is back since he is one of the most interessting characters in the show! He steals every scene! Glad to see another familiar face and how he was used in this episode!

This got emotional as we are reminded what It means to be a clone!

How much can you live with?

Excited for how things pan out in the future.

A better season premiere than the actual season premiere!
stevenonstage14 January 2023
I was not a fan of episodes 1&2.

I watched this one with a deep worry of disappointment.

I was completely wrong, this episode is magnificent!

It focuses almost entirely on Crosshair, after being rescued on Kamino, he's been seemingly demoted.

He is teamed with Commander Cody to assassinate a separatist insurgent where he displays skills and teamwork that left my jaw hanging open.

This squad was so skilled and efficient it almost had me rooting for the Empire.

Battle scenes were fantastic but doubts are growing among the clones regarding Order 66.

This is Star Wars everyone, I can only hope we'll continue in this vein.

I LOVED IT!!!

A story that i never thought we'd see
ha77y73ad972 February 2023
There are so many clones that have been introduced during the times of the clone wars and i dont think theres a more well known commander than Cody! For years clones have been getting their story after order 66 or killed off before but we have never seen Cody until now. With this episode they were able to hit hard on the heart strings!

With so many captains and commanders after the order being given questioning if what was done was right is a really interesting take on the moment that the jedi order fell. Knowing that all clones are phased out by the time that Solo rolls round we can only assume that these are killed off but with crosshairs still being stone walled in his approach to surviving in the new world is this another mutation that has been caused because of being apart of clone force 99.

Overall there are still so many questions that are waiting to be answered and with so many episodes left in this series i need to know more of Codys story and also the start of the clone process for Snoke that we are seeing throughout the Star Wars stories since moving to Disney Plus.

Taking the shot
hgold9811 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Yeah, so the staircase scene alone gets this to 9 stars, the world building and seeing Cody start to question orders gets it to 10. Bravo.

This is one of those few times we're you can basically show this to someone with our context and they'll come to understand most of what's happening and enjoy it. Not easy to do.

On top of all that the title of the episode makes us ask, who is the solitary clone. Is it Crosshair who knows better and chooses to follow orders. Or in fact Cody who carried out order 66, eventually sees the faults of the empire and goes rogue. Clearly Cody was having doubts, such a good ep.

Experience the magic of Clone Wars, the magic of PERFECTION
moritzherz11 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The Solitary Clone does something I did not expect at all. It brings back the magic of my childhood, the all time best of animation and one of the best entertainment products ever created by human beings. It gave me back

Star Wars: The Clone Wars

Story: Since this episode is sinply a piece of art I cannot hold back spoilers. So this is your warning!

The episode starts with Crosshair waking up in the new facility where the clones live and wait for there missions. Since Kamino was destroyed at the end of Bad Batch Season One it makes sense that they now need a new home. We see that Crosshair, being different, has no friends under his camerades and eats alone in the cantina. The grandmaster of the facility, the well known Vice Admiral Rampart than wants to see him. He says that Crosshairs reputation decreased and he now has to serve under a commander instead of being one himself. He gets a mission and then meets him, the One and only

Commander Cody

Wow! I mean, we knew from the trailer that he would come back but it still was surprising to see him this early. The magic this guy brings is just amazing. He's definitely one of the heroes of my childhood.

He and Crosshair chat a bit about the Empire and Crosshair again says the line (Good Soldiers Follow Orders) which will get important later on in the episode.

And know the action starts: The way Cody and Crosshair fight there way through the city of Dessex to reach the governor is just classic Clone Wars:

-Intelligent tactics -Great Combat

and it all fits to the rules the original series created.

This combined with the old enemy, battle droids, works just perfect and sets me right back into the Clone Wars. A nice little detail here is that when citizens hiding from the battle, see the Clone Troopers they don't react like in the Clone Wars and being thankful to them, instead they see them now as the bad ones, as the Empire. Dave Filoni is just the master of details.

When they finally freed the imperial governor he gives Cody the order to execute the firmer governor that kept him prison. He solved the conflict peacefully so he refuses to do it and Crosshair shoots her.

I think at this time something changed in Cody's mind. He is not anymore as loyal to the empire as he was to the republic.

After that the empire sends there new TK -troopers to the planet and you can see Cody watching them, of course knowing of the process of replacing him and the clones. For me that was really sad to watch.

Back on Coruscant he tells Crosshair from his thoughts about the brutal actions of the empire, but Crosshair is still loyal. Cody reminds him that the only thing making them different to the battle droids is that they make their own decisions and have to live with them. This line was perfect and gives this episode the last bit to perfection.

The whole episode is the conflict between blind loyalty (Crosshair) and questioning the orders (Cody). This works perfectly on the situation in the clone army but also goes further, even being a lesson for the real life.

This was always one of the things that made The Clone Wars to a masterpiece and I am glad to see that they still know how to implement them.

I think this episode is the very best of Star Wars: The Bad Batch we got so far, going back to the roots and pulling up a masterpiece in every possible way.

So I want you to respect all these things before you rate this episode, because it deserves a good rating and has to be watched. Before I forget:

Shoutout to all the Haters: This episode shows how good The Bad Batch can be, you can stop giving them a 1/10. That's just stupid and childish!

This episode has not a single weakness and therefore deserves the number of perfection:

Character development done right
dwiimor14 January 2023
This episode deals with some important dilemmas that every single clone must deal with inside their head in one way or another, inhibitor chip or not.

The story itself is not complex but important as it shows the empire still struggle somewhat to get all the systems under control.

And the way it shows the different moral dilemmas and points of view is just brilliant. As with the first episodes of this season, the main characters dont have as much plot armor and the music is really good!

This made you remember back in CW when they showed some new sides of the seperatists and you realised they were actually the good guys, alas decieved by dooku.

I have very high hopes for the direction of this show!

Absolute joke
sugarpeter5 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
At 21:57 after obviously crosshairs follows an order after 1 whole season being his whole personality to blindly do anything and follow any orderd given by a higher rank imperial officer, are the show supposed to make me feel shocked? Because judging by the music they play I'm supposed to be at an aww that he was the one who pulled the trigger.

I usually don't like to predict but I knew the whole plot from the beggining of the episode. This show just really trying to test me and making me write reviews like this I would never do otherwise because they assume I'm that stupid that I won't even expect something like this, just ridicoulous. I hope all of them die at the end of season 3 im looking forward to it.

Amazing
Trip-6348222 January 2023
This episode was great in every way. It felt like a clone wars episode. It was great, despite the nostalgia bias from clone wars. I believe that even those who haven't seen clone wars episodes would enjoy it. It's a chance to see how the clones felt about the change that has happened. Although it's not the first time, it's an interesting take on the theme with the characters they introduce. This episode was the best so far this season. It was a good story with many great scenes and interactions. Overall, I'm hopeful they will continue to follow this path and share more of the empire with characters we know.

Dave Filoni you legend
atkinsonlouise-7387314 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
After a decent and fun start, this episode got into the dark and gritty territory that made for the best of the Clone Wars. To be honest, this may be the best episode of the show so far. Seeing Cody again was great and his team up with Crosshair and seeing them fight a droid army like in Clone Wars days was great. The last episode hinted at a clone rebellion, but this one really showed it with Cody realising the evil of the empire and turning his back on them. Crosshair being shown going from mission to mission and isolated from other clones was interesting. I'm very much eager to see how his character develops in the season. Also, the politics was done well here, showing the Separatists holding on to their ideals but the might of the empire being too much. A real brutal and cutting edge episode, that highlights why these animated shows are crucial to the canon and I am eager for more of this good Star Wars we have been getting of late. Score: 9.5/10.

Beautiful! Masterful!
guillaumecoryn11 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode of the bad batch has been one of my favorites! The writing is once again masterful, you start to see the struggle within the clones. It was super to see crosshair again and see how his story is also evolving. You see that throughout the episode he changes. At first he's just, like he himself says, a soldier following orders. But when he meets commander Cody, you notice a small change. Crosshair feels the friendship of another clone from his past. And in the end when Cody is gone you feel the sadness and doubt in Crosshair. Should he have left his brothers? Is this what the empire is now? Not only Crosshairs storyline was amazing but also that of Cody. In the beginning of the episode it is clear that the clones are having difficulties with the new stormtroopers, and that all clones may be retired. Crosshair meets Cody and Cody sayd that people are starting to doubt order 66, at that moment it was already clear to me that those people he was talking about, was him. During the entire episode you notice that Cody has difficulties with following orders and when the gouvernor holds that speach about peace, that is where you see him break. He doesn't believe in the empire anymore, so he leaves.

This entire episode was so beautiful, the writing and storytelling was amazing. That bittersweet ending, when the clones are leaving the planet and being replaced by stormtroopers, the struggle becomes real. In the command centre the feeling of cold darkness overwhelmes you. Where in the clone wars, the joyfull playfull side was still present, now it is gone entirely. No more good vibes, only darkness, only the empire...

Wow!
pymsfzqf12 January 2023
Hi!

For me, Hands down best episode Bad Batch so far!

Really dark episode.. both in tone and theme's. The whole vibe was more realistic and more mature then other episodes.

The "new" animation style works really wel in this episode because it makes everything look even more gritty.

Leans into " Andor" by showing some of the inner workings of the empire.

In the end there is always a deskjockey to shove the soldiers around like pieces in a game.

Also a throwback to "Clone Wars' with familiar characters from it's history. I hope they can keep up this quality!

This show works so much better when it is less childish!

Cody does care! *spoiler*
sjbambach-0026711 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Who new Cody had emotions. Attempted murder on Obi-Wan a year earlier and all the sudden he's AWOL. Excited to see where he ends up going, good soldiers follow orders but great ones do what's right. Great to see the Cody everyone loves back at it! Very happy with the introduction of separatist worlds and what happens with them post clone wars. Witnessing the Empires ruthlessness and true evil through a clone presence with raw power made it very interesting to watch, not sure about the helmets tho.... The reference of Dooku is starting to make me curious as to what he was sharing outside of his work with Palpatine much like Tales of the Jedi.

A Masterpiece!!!
reiyx200012 January 2023
There is so much greatness in this episode is hard to highlight things. Every single second was pure art. I mean really even the cinematography is on point. The story telling is emotional, I can't believe how this episode has make me change the way I feel about an old forgotten character. Changing the perspective from another main antagonist really open things up more for the better, it is a big galaxy in the end. I've seen all animation Star Wars related, and this episode is not only one of the best episodes from the Bad Batch, this is probably one of the best animation stories ever made. Take a bow Dave! Bravo!!

Warning: Spoilers
This episode is a breath taking one. I am amazed with the plot and tension at the end. It certainly deserves an award, from colour selection to the character development. After Andor, the quality line is put high and Bad Batch is fulfilling this requirement of good story. That is to my view as equal as the1st season finalle rating even for a star wars fan aged nearly 50 I will come back and watch again. We may expect a clone rebellion in the end of the season and even more surprises with switching sides. It was so good that one of the famous commander is a fugitive now. Thanks Bad Batch team that is for sure Starwars we wanted.

That was pure gold episode!
joejetloky14 January 2023
That was pure gold episode - the Star Wars as what it should always be. The episode with just right balance between action and emotions, but also episode moving forward main story and the characters development. I'm not surprised at all that episode without squawking Omega is the highest rated and the best of them all. If I be given to watch just one episode like this in every upcoming series of the show, I will manage to cope all the rest of them too ;)

Deep inside I want to believe, that episodes like this are in fact secret messages from Dave Filoni telling us that we have to be patient, and one day Star Wars will Return and it's just a matter of time.

And we have to live with them
Trey_Trebuchet24 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Really solid. This is what I want from this show.

We get some excellent character development for Crosshair and Commander Cody. Was NOT expecting to ever see Commander Cody again. I'm so glad we did. Seeing him so mislead and on the wrong side was sad to see, but not as sad as his look of defeat once he realizes peace really never was an option. What a heartbreaking scene. And yet another excellent showcase for how merciless and awful the Empire is.

And Crosshair is a really interesting character, coming back from his injuries on Kamino and finally starting to question how badly he wants to be this "good soldier" for an empire that clearly doesn't value anyone.

We also got some insight as to why storm troopers are slowly replacing the clones. It has me excited for more of that sort of content. More of this please.

The action scenes are also really well directed and choreographed, even if they do push boundaries of believability. It was just so fun to watch. I must once again give this composer great credit too, because this episode alone has one of the best scores in the series.

Really good stuff. Hopefully the actual title characters get some proper progression.

Filoni, you've done it again!
honeybee-236312 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I can't describe how well written this was. This episode reminded me of Victory And Death, the final episode of the Clone Wars animated series, the way the story moved me.

The episode follows CT-9904 (Crosshair) being assigned to a familiar face's squadron. Commander Cody makes a appearance for this episode, no longer dawning the iconic orange armor, but a more gray and bleak armor. The mission at hand is simple: rescue a Imperial officer being held hostage on the Separatist planet of Desix by the governor.

The mission is action-packed, with droidikas and commando droids around every corner. B1 battle droids are very common and make for a fun episode to watch. At least half of Cody's squad is blown up by gunners and bombers even before they even land. Many times they "pop" the droidikas, basically disabling the shields.

When Crosshair finds out that the commanding droid is in the belltower, he and Cody head up, fighting the waves of commando droids. When they eventually destroy the final few droids and the commanding droid, the governor steps out of the corner and has the officer at gunpoint. She tells Cody to stop having the Empire come to their planet and try to take control.

With the bit of humanity left in him, he puts down his blaster and takes off his helmet. He says that they can do this peacefully, letting go of the officer and leaving. The governor agrees, letting go of the officer. As the officer thanks Cody, he sharpy and supringly tells him to shoot her. Cody doesn't want to, having just resolved the conflict. He stalls and is yelled at by the officer "That's an order!!"

While this is happening, a shot goes through the governor's chest. Crosshair standing there, his smoking barrel near his face. The final parts of the Desix mission are hard, as hundreds of clones arrive to take control of the city.

Crosshair and Cody meet back at a memorial for the war, where Cody talks about the mission and purpose. He says:

"You know what the difference between us and those droids is? We can make our own decisions."

(This is not the full quote)

This really stuck with me until Crosshair is assigned another mission, but not with Cody. When Crosshair asked why not with Cody, the officer responded by saying he went AWOL (Absence Without Official Lead) and to not talk about him. That one part was sad, as it showed that Cody's struggles and guilt caught up to him, leading to him leaving the Galactic Empire. The episode ends with Crosshair walking down a corridor while slowly putting on his helmet.

This episode shows the mortality that was resented by Order 66, showing how the one situation sparked such feelings strong. Dave Filoni, you've done it again.

To be honest this is my first time writing a review but i have to do it because what i just watched was a cinematical masterpiece.

The first season already set the standards high but so far the second season and espacially this episode break everything there ever was.

This episode has epic fight scenes, cody's comeback, background information on order 66 form a clones perspective and an amazing vibe. It really shows the variety of views form clones on the imperium and drew amazing conections to very old clone wars side characters which is amazing because so everything feels more fluid. Genius.

Gets more even more deep
soleserm12 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Normally I would have to write this for the whole Season 2 series, but I think this episode gets the idea across.

In this particular episode, Crosshair is ordered to settle a matter in a former separatists' planet. But this time he must follow Commander Cody and his platoon of Clone Troopers, as the leader of the mission. Their orders are to free an imperial officer, held hostage by the planet's governor, a former separatist leader and friend and comrade to the late Mina Bonteri.

As the Clone Troopers fight their way against reprogrammed battle droids, Cody and Crosshair manage to break through the droid garrison and trap the beleaguered governor. As she is revealing some nasty truths about the Empire, as well as her futile efforts with Mina Bonteri to come to terms with the Republic and end the Clone War, Cody realises that the "order 66" and the Empire are not really what they seem.

When he and Crosshair return to Coruscant, Cody makes a remark in front of the war memorial with all the numbers and the names of the fallen Clones.

Will Crosshair consider his fellow clone's advice?

One of the best episodes of the arc, this one returns to the ominous and dark atmosphere of the last two episodes of S01. It's the first time "The Bad Batch" introduces an episode with less talking and more action, less explaining and more leaving the viewer to feel, understand and judge.

Despite what have been said and posted about the Series, "Bad Batch" remains one of the best Star Wars expansion series, and S02 has made it clear from the beginning. Filler episodes are necessary; in this case, this is one of the best.

One thing that saddened me since the beginning of the series, is the gradual fall of the once brave fighters, the the Grand Clone Army of the Republic. Starting with the execution of the order 66, up to this point, the once valiant Clones have left their value to be saved by heroes like C. C. Rex, the Bad Batch, C. C. Hauser, C. Com. Gregor and C. C. Wolffe. Cody, a former commander under the leadership of Obi-Whan Kenobi, the once brilliant marshall of the 212 Leg. Is left to decide between wrong and right.

Will Crosshair follow suit?
