Education is a fundamental human right that many women around the world are denied of. And as an ambassador of Girl Rising, a global campaign for girls' education and empowerment, Freida Pinto has chosen to raise her voice in hopes of inspiring others into action. Frieda spent her childhood growing up in India and for many years was a witness to the unfair and unequal treatment of girls. Having a mother who was a school principal helped shape Frieda's perspective on just how crucial education was for both boys and girls. Freida exclusively opened up to E! News about the cause that hit very close to home. "When your mum is the principal or teacher and your grandmother the same, you can't help but be...

Paramount Music will release the 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers Of Benghazi – Music from the Motion Picture digitally on January 15, 2016. The album features the film’s original score by Lorne Balfe (Terminator Genisys, Penguins Of Madagascar).
“The film is really about the soldiers’ ordeal and how they coped with the situation at hand,” said Balfe. “Michael (Bay) does a great job keeping the film from becoming political. The film is really here to honor the soldiers and the men and women who ultimately had to step up and do everything they could to save as many people as possible.”
From director Michael Bay, 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers Of Benghazi is the gripping true story of six elite ex-military operators assigned to protect the CIA who fought back against overwhelming odds when terrorists attacked a U.S. diplomatic compound on September 11, 2012. When everything went wrong, six men had the courage to do what was right.

Filmmaker Steven Piet has worn many hats over the course of his short career. He served as the cinematographer and editor for the documentary Girl Rising, a look at how education changes the lives of nine exploited girls from around the world. He also worked as a second unit crew member for the 2011 Mark Pellington ensemble drama I Melt With You. And that’s about it. Based on his directorial debut, Uncle John, you would think he would have far more credits to his name, as he has masterfully interwoven multiple genres into one tightly crafted, surprising little film.
Co-written by Piet and Erik Crary, the script combines folksy rural thriller, urban rom-com, and indie dark comedy to depict a low-key revenge story involving an elderly man and, ostensibly, his grown nephew. The experiment benefits from the performances of its two leads, veteran character actor John Ashton and promising newcomer Alex Moffat.

Freida Pinto would like two poached eggs, but the trouble is, only one arrived with her avocado toast and salad. Protein, she says, is essential on a day like today. With impeccable manners, 30-year-old Pinto asks for her order to be corrected. I feel for the woman. She's working through lunch and talking with me at the restaurant in New York's Crosby Street Hotel during what's an already long press day for her new film, Desert Dancer. Source: Popsugar Photography / Allie Merriam Without further ado, another egg arrives. All is well. Getting Desert Dancer to theaters has taken some time. The movie, which began filming almost three years ago, is about a group of friends in Iran whose shared passion for dance leads to trouble. It's loosely based on the true story of the performer Afshin Ghaffarian. The film became something of a passion project for Pinto, who undertook a year of rigorous dance study,...

It's almost September, which means a whole new slew of titles on Netflix! August proved pretty lucrative on the quality title front, but it looks as though September it's going to blow the rundown out of the water.

The actress, who is known for her work on female emancipation, discussed the situation of women in India. “Despite the presence of women everywhere it is sad that female foeticide is practised in India, not only in rural areas but in cities like Delhi, Mumbai. I think women empowerment is important and Gdp of a country should be measured to the degree to women being educated,” she said.
The actress of Arth also talked about violence against women and claimed that it should not be tolerated. “I feel sad that despite knowing the violent situation in marriage, often women are asked to live with it. Documentary filmmaker Richard E. Robbins has spent close to six years making Girl Rising, a documentary about the lack of opportunity for females in developing countries to get a good education. Robbins and his crew traveled to several places – among them, India, Ethiopia and Sierra Leone – where the conditions for many young girls are squalid and shocking. There, the Oscar-nominated filmmaker found several girls whose lives had been changed by going to school.
While making Girl Rising, Robbins and his team of filmmakers created 10X10, a social action charity that supports educational programs for women around the world. Since the documentary premiered at Sundance in 2013, Robbins has screened Girl Rising for students and communities in several different continents, hoping to raise awareness and inspire audiences.

The 45th Annual NAACP Image Awards went off without a hitch earlier this evening (February 22) with "12 Years a Slave" continuing to make waves snagging the biggest prize of the night.
Before her film won Outstanding Motion Picture, the gorgeous Lupita Nyong'o added another piece of hardware to her already impressive collection taking home a trophy for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture, while Kerry Washington snagged up her second Image Award with a win for Best Actress in a Dramatic Series. Kerry's show "Scandal" also won Outstanding Drama Series.
In addition, the hilarious Kevin Hart took home Entertainer of the Year, while Oprah Winfrey paid tribute to the late Nelson Mandela with a touching speech and musical dedication.
"He was everything we have all have heard and more. He was humble and he was unscathed by any kind of bitterness after all that we know he's been through," Winfrey said.

Have you heard about Girl Rising? If not, let me introduce you to an engaging and emotional movie that will teach you a lot about girls' education. The project began when a team of veteran journalists decided to investigate one question: how do you end global poverty? Girls' education always came up, no matter whom they asked, and they knew there was a story to tell. But while data show when you educate a girl you can change a community, they struggled with how to get people to recognize and act on the opportunity. So they created 10x10, a social action campaign dedicated to getting the word out, and the film Girl Rising. Today, in honor of the Un's International Day of the Girl, people are organizing screenings of the film in their communities. In more than 150 countries, Girl Rising supporters are hosting more than 2,000 events. Let's take a look...

As summer sinks in and we’re bombarded by box office behemoths, it’s easy to forget that the most awe-inspiring and dramatic stories come not from the Marvel Universe, but rather from real world tales of overcoming adversity. Girl Rising, a powerful documentary from Oscar-nominated director Richard E. Robbins, showcases the wide-reaching transformative power of education by telling the stories of nine different girls from nine developing nations around the globe. Girl Rising enjoyed a limited release in select markets March 7, but being an independent film with a limited budget, the filmmakers decided to partner with Gathr, a new model for theatrical distribution that puts the power to screen a movie in the people’s hands (hey, that’s you!). Each girl’s...

The film Girl Rising has helped to highlight what aid workers have known for years: that educating young women helps them and their communities flourish and succeed
Anne Hathaway, Cate Blanchett, Meryl Streep and Freida Pinto are among the most watched women in the world. Now, with a handful of other stars, they have come together to tell the stories of nine unknown girls, all of whom struggled to acquire what should be a universal right: an education.
In a project launched to coincide with International Women's Day, the four actresses have been joined by Selena Gomez, Priyanka Chopra, Chloë Moretz, Salma Hayek, Kerry Washington and Alicia Keys. All have given time to make Girl Rising, which has its premiere in New York on Thursday.
