Not a great film, but there are some nice touches of humour (particularly in the fantasy scenes with Eugene) and - ultimately - poignancy, which lend it interest beyond the norm.
IMHO the real weak spot is the character of Dee. Not just underwritten but *very* blankly played (such that you wonder why she bothered) and this unbalances the film - ALL the scenes between Elenore and Dee are thus incredibly dull. Fortunately, this is a fairly small percentage of the running time.
Fortunately, Audrey makes Elenore charming enough to spend time with regardless, even if one wonders where it's all going...
