'The Principle' Uses Pseudo-Science to Challenge Understanding of Universe
PopSpective_net19 August 2016
Let me start by saying that I like 'The Principle'–it's just that I don't like it for the reasons the writer and producer would prefer. In a nutshell, the movie is supposed to be an enlightening look at current science related to cosmology and the origins of the universe, calling into question the idea that Earth is not necessarily special and is not the center of the universe. As far as I'm concerned, the premise and conclusions are nonsense, but the way the information is presented gives it an air of credibility and authenticity that prove to be a valuable lesson in how pseudo-science can appear legitimate at face value.

Refreshing

I find it interesting and intriguing because its main purpose is to make us all "question everything". We are given a tremendous amount of theories that gravitate around humans existence on Earth and our unique place in the Universe. With mind - blowing facts and assumptions, you automatically start to believe that our race is part of something bigger than ourselves. I do hope that one day we'll be able to solve all of the unresolved problems that we face today through science and technology. But until then, we must work as a whole in order to accomplish astonishing milestones!

this is rubbish on a galactic scale
jamestoledano21 November 2017
Lawrence Krauss himself had no idea he was in such a film. Someone basically brought the rights to a bunch of clips of him talking about geocentrism and what a load of rubbish is was and edited the context right out of it. Here is a post written by Lawrence on this very subject. Google "the principle Lawrence Krauss" and look at the 2nd link which is to a slate.com piece he wrote...

Just another example of how religion tries to kill all curiosity because it is petrified of the truth: we are not special, our planet exists by pure chance, our sun is puny (and in fact is the source of life so worship that) and there is nobody keeping score and nobody cares about the fates and actions of humans. Everything you have ever been and ever will be is of no importance to the universe so deal with it...

Bring the No-Doz
jonsorensen18 October 2015
I watched this film at its premiere in San Diego, where I was one of maybe 20 people in attendance. If you are able to stay awake for the entire duration, then I applaud you. I went with an open mind, and left feeling accomplished because I managed to fight off the urge to sleep. A gentleman I did not know approached me afterward and asked me what I thought of the film. I told him the production quality was pretty good, but I was not swayed by its premise. He looked at me with amazement, as if the film's arguments were so air- tight one would have to be a village idiot to deny it. I can assure you it's not all that. Conspiracy theorists will probably love this film. Normal people will find it a good occasion to catch up on sleep.

Garbage for people who still believe in creationism
greatdeceivah10 August 2016
This documentary is filled with so much false, inaccurate and non- scientific facts, i could spend twenty pages debunking most of the information shown on this thinly-veiled piece of religious propaganda disguised as a "documentary". I find it hilarious that the greatest theoretical physicist and cosmologist the world has ever seen, Stephen Hawking was not interviewed for this piece of garbage "documentary"...

He would have surely laughed in his robotic voice at most of the non- sense being spewed.. like when some genius says "we are the only life in the entire universe" as if we had already explored the entire universe, when we haven't even explored out own solar system!

I am sure Richard Dawkins would have a field day ridiculing most of the fools who participated in this crap.

A Documentary to Rock the Pillars of Big Bang Cosmological Dogma!
kmkraft18 September 2022
THE PRINCIPLE does a great job in not only reintroducing the geocentric model as not only a perfectly legitimate one but one demonstrated by recent sky-mapping technology--much to the chagrin of cosmologists. What is tragic is when scientists, even when presented with evidence challenging their scientific dogma, continue to cling to their dogma and simply deny the evidence. Lawrence Kraus says, "It only looks like the Earth is in a special place in the universe. But it isn't." Because it can't be, right? That would fly in the face of the atheistic view of the universe that only "legitimate" cosmologist adhere to.

Religious propaganda disguised as science
mollymillions5 July 2017
What an awful case of religious propaganda disguised as science. Much pseudo science employed to try an spread disinformation. The makers of the movie should be prosecuted for implying this theory is scientific (and I think they were) and trying to make the masses dumber than they already are. Shame on you.

An Awe-Inspiring Revelation of a Breathtaking Discovery
sojourner127024 January 2015
This is an excellent thought-provoking documentary, well worth watching, that presents in a very balanced manner the discussion surrounding the discovery, twice confirmed, of what has been dubbed by the fearful as "the axis of evil" in the cosmic microwave background. Contrary to the idea of Earth being insignificant, this line in the CMB seems to be something of a stage spotlight shining upon Earth. The discovery of this axis in the CMB is remarkable, the magnitude of which will take years to study and fully appreciate. Nonetheless, I think the next time I see a beautiful sunset, or have occasion to look up into the night-time sky in a dark place, when it seems as if you could reach up and touch the stars, I will more greatly appreciate not only the wonder of the moment, but the ability to experience that wonder. There is, I think, something very reassuring in that ability, and it does not speak of chaotic chance.

What a crock of crap!
ingramsmommy1 June 2015
Geocentrism has been long disproven by everyone with a scientific point of view. This documentary is an attempt to salvage a philosophy hundreds of years after it was unarguably rebuked by observation of the real world. We have sent spacecraft to many places in the solar system, and in every case, Newton's laws of motion have predicted accurate results. Geocentrism is a hoax perpetuated by a desire for human centrality in the workings of a much larger universe. It's basis is not scientific but theological, according to a religious reckoning that even the mainline Catholic Church now rejects. This documentary is a result of people who favor their emotional desires over the hard facts of science that tell us the truth about how all bodies in orbit function. The people who made this documentary used decontextualized footage from unrelated interviews by such personalities as Lawrence Krauss, who couldn't be farther from supporting a geocentrist position. This is a fantasy that relies on disingenuously interpreting quotes from scientists who rebuke the very premise of the film. It's a disgrace to humanity that this film should even exist in this day and age. These are probably the same people who believe the moon landing and the ISS are "hoaxes." Grow up, you ignorant unscientific True Believers. We will move forward with science no matter how hard you try to backpedal against it.

New Science Discovery - Not A Crock
tmjf15 June 2015
Did you know that the most recent data from satellite probes sent up in the 1990s and 2000s show that the whole universe is aligned with both the Earth-sun ecliptic and the Earths's equator, showing that our universe is geocentrically oriented with Earth at the center? The Earth is not lost in space as Carl Sagan suggest. Did you know that the most recent data from telescopes show that galaxies and many other celestial objects such as quasars and gamma ray bursts are oriented around the Earth in concentric spheres? Did you know that every scientific proof for an Earth revolving around the sun and rotating on an axis has been discredited and there has never been an experiment that has provided proof that the Earth is moving?

Clever, but didn't convince me
gloriuscro22 September 2021
The best part about the movie is seeing how closed-minded and deluded the top scientists are.

The points made by the movie are good but they felt off at times and weren't as in-depth as I would like it to be.

I think there is more evidence supporting heliocentrism but this opened my mind up to the possibility of geocentrism.

Chat Conversation Start 7:10AM Geocentric Model/The Principle

Scientists, astrophysicists, and all those great minds that asked the big cosmological question have been put to the test. They have but two simple options: to surrender to scientific factual evidence and to acknowledge they been wrong; or to lie like sheep killing dogs.

So, it is no wonder we are having such political debates filled with nonsense. Everybody is ducking the evidence in order not to be proved wrong. Yes, they are burning at the stake those that claim the geocentric model.

Yet, the facts speak for itself: the Earth IS NOT MOVING. All the Universe is, but not us. Zero speed through absolute space. Earth at the Center of it all!

The greatest scientific revelation, the writing on the walls of the universe tells us we are very special, extremely special, humans and Earth!

Excelente informacion, si tan solo tenemos la mente abierta.

Warning: Spoilers
sorry for the grammar, English is my second language Like everybody i was told in school that we move around the sun, my teacher said that, his teacher said that, my text book said that, the science guys say that all because a guy many years ago, without modern instruments (like modern telescopes) without more data, math to back that up had an idea. This idea has issues because it does agree with other discoveries in the universe, This documentary just put a seed on us... If Coppernicus was not right? It does not push religious agendas, I don't see how the interviewers could have been manipulated to say something else and has so much information that can be easy verified.

Excellent production, very informative, well done maybe a little boring if you don't understand the basics of cosmology o the problems with the Big Bang. in other words if you were not paying attention in high school.

An awesome exercise in propaganda
Snootz4 July 2017
In college I studied methods of propaganda in my business courses. Why? Because businesses hype their products-- propaganda at its finest. This class taught not only how to recognize propaganda, but how to use it to market products.

So through the years I've watched these principles in operation, in everything from religion to the promotion of Evolution. (Yes... a theory with big gaping logic holes and contradictions of data presented as absolute fact... that is a primary method of propaganda.)

The same is true of creationists who believe the universe was created in a literal 7 days... or (insert religion names here) that can't even agree on the identity of God.

People swallow these things down whole without even challenging the concepts, without looking further into it, just because "scientists say so" or "my preacher says so". (Exactly what is a "scientist" anyway? I'm a SCIENTIST! Woohoo!). And there are always arrogant people who think they know everything there is to know and anyone who disagrees with them is an uneducated idiot. Undue insistence that one's personal viewpoint is absolute reality and disparaging harassment of those who disagree is another method of propaganda.

Humankind in general is gullible, easily influenced, easily mislead, easily fooled. "There is a sucker born every minute" is one of the most accurate concepts on our planet. If nothing else, films like this serve to help people understand propaganda and how it works. People will believe things just because an "authority" (or several "authorities") state it is so. Give them SOME facts, and they'll swallow it ALL down. Tell half truths and people will believe it's all truth. Tell the truth, but exaggerate it... and people will believe the exaggeration. Or tell a lie convincingly and earnestly enough, and people will believe that.

It doesn't matter whether someone claims the universe revolves around the Earth, that life can somehow magically appear from nothing, or that mankind never set foot on the moon. Propaganda works and if anything, that is the lesson of films such as this. Such claims depend on one, single solitary fact: most people don't examine, analyze or question what they're told. Most people don't question the agendas of "authority" figures (scientific or religious). Just like those who claim there is "no other life in the universe" (how could they possibly know that?)... or that evolution is the "only way" life on this planet could have come about (seriously?)... mankind as a whole is extremely gullible. No one likes admitting that reality... and few will accept it as truth. We don't really want to know the truth; it tends to inconvenience us and destabilize our comfy belief systems.

The difference between the average person and people in power-- is that people in power know that mankind is gullible, and use that to every advantage. If we take away one thing at all from this movie (and those similar to it, no matter what stance they take)... it would be to realize how and why propaganda works, and to wake up so we're no longer affected by it. Religious people swallow down teachings from the pulpit. Evolutionists swallow down claims from "scientists". The truth is most people either don't bother to check the facts for themselves... or do so starting from a biased standpoint and refuse to consider their existing beliefs just might be total hogwash.

In general, we need to wake up and smell the roses... which have every chance of being artificially scent-enhanced and colored.

This Documentary Spells The End For Atheism.

Science has been hi-jacked by powerful, wealthy liars, it's time now for Truth to take over Science, This Documentary signals the beginning of that take over.

Biased, but intriguing
altinhorj22 February 2016
This documentary brings a lot of ideas that will sound very exciting for Christians in general, specially for those supportive of intelligent design. Of course, every documentary is a biased "collage" of interviews, and The Principle isn't different. But the backlash for this movie was surprisingly strong and uncalled for. Of course, the scientists who gave their opinions, as well as the narrator, Kate Mulgrew, will suffer persecution for sustaining such a revolutionary hipothesys. But I cant understand how can you give such passionate statements for a documentary and say later that you had no idea about the subject of filming. The same goes for Mrs Mulgrew, who I admire a lot. A 10 for their bravery!

Excellent viewing if you are open minded enough to explore the possibility of geocentrism
ian-2437610 July 2018
An eyeopening and thought-provoking documentary which if you can watch without bias or any preconceived ideas you will enjoy. Although the filmmakers seem to have set out with the intention of supporting geocentrism, it does give a balanced view showing both sides of the debate from those who support the theory and those who strongly deny it. Although I didn't agree with everything in this film I was still fascinated with the information provided and felt it gave a very good argument for geocentrism.

If this film highlighted one thing however, for me it was the fact that our mainstream scientists now seem to be failing us, by refusing to consider any facts that don't support current accepted theories and ideas. This was really sad to see, and it was done so openly. It was hard to believe that some of these scientists could literally deny something just because they didn't want to accept it as a possibility. Surely true science should consider all evidence and base findings on fact alone, rather than trying to make something work in favour of studying another possibility because the consequence of the other outcome wouldn't be in their favour. It's an essential watch if only to expose this.

Why Not Actually Watch This & Listen to What's in It?
betchaareoffendedeasily28 September 2023
Real question. The detractors on here seem to not have watched this, or watched it hell bent on hating it with a closed mind. Here's the crazy thing, people like this hurl insults at Christians such as "Yeah well you say God in the gaps", "Yeah well, you believe in fairytales", and the always awesome "How's skydaddy working for you?" Why are Christians called narrow minded when these fools wont even entertain an alternate idea? Who is really narrow-minded here?

Whether or not these scientist or Kate Mulgrew were not told exactly what this film was about is up for debate, but having Mulgrew's voice is nice. I have a hard time believing she couldn't tell this film had a bend towards geocentrism, as I'm listening to her talk, the words she says, very obviously implying that geocentrism could be a viable idea, not that it is, but that it should be given space within science. I just have to wonder if she was being intentionally ignoring it so she could claim ignorance, who knows? Either way, her presence is welcome.

I came at this very skeptically, I am pretty neutral on the heleocentrism vs geocentrism debate, and btw geocentrism, does not, per say, mean flat earth. Nor does it even say this in the movie, though I would agree it is somewhat implied. I have studied and looked at both models, and even the Hollow earth idea. What I have noticed, is that as it talks about later in the documentary about the idea of multiverses to explain why we are heliocentric, is definitely not less insane than the idea that the sun and planets revolve around us and God created us. I have indeed studied a good bit of cosmology, and yes, these are real ideas. The ideas posed by these scientist are not misrepresented. In fact, this movie gives most of it's run time to the heliocentrist view and lets these scientist spin their ideas out about different questions about our universe.

Watching and listening to these scientists own words all at once, many of whom I've listened to independent of this, made me realize how they not only know nothing, but admit it. Almost all of them refuse to explore ideas that may come close to contradicting their beliefs. As the movie progressed their ideas get whackier and whackier, and these so-called "experts" appear to know very little about how the universe works. So when people claim "Listen to the science!" Okay, I'm listening, and it doesn't sound good, and again this is just as true if you listen to these people outside of this film. Especially when you hear a good 10 of them echo the same silly ideas in this movie, you realize this kind of intellectual dishonesty is endemic within science.

The one scientist who has sense is the scientist who looked into cosmic radiation and found the so-called "Axis of evil". He is open to different ideas, which is how science should be! It was refreshing amongst the never-ending nihilism. Every other scientist echos the same "We're here for nothing, we came from nothing." Some of the scientist claim we are special, one because we are apparently made from particles of many stars and each of us is unique.... Okay, how is this less strange than the idea of a God creating us? The idea that we are simply flying through space on the ball, for no reason, is actually pretty depressing, that there is no afterlife, and this is it? Again, completely hopeless and nihilistic.

Overall, this is a very even-handed documentary, it presents questions, some answers, and at the end, leaves the question open. It does not actually give definitive answer. Those claiming it is propaganda for God are exposing their own prejudices and biases. While it presents those ideas, it doesn't say its true, actually. It merely shows there are many holes in the current theories, and it proposes what may or may not be an answer. If that bugs you, you might want to do some self-examination as to why.
