Phillips’ exploration of Arthur Fleck, who is indelibly portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix, is of a man struggling to find his way in Gotham’s fractured society. A clown-for-hire by day, he aspires to be a stand-up comic at night…but finds the joke always seems to be on him. Caught in a cyclical existence between apathy and cruelty, Arthur makes one bad decision that brings about a chain reaction of escalating events in this gritty character study.

Chicago – One of the most prominent podcasters of this particular era is Marc Maron, who famously broadcasts his “Wtf with Marc Maron” show from his garage. His mix of comedians, politicians and celebrities has brought him notoriety in the crowded field. He is dipping his toe into acting, with a lead in a new film “Sword of Trust.”
Mel (Marc Maron) is a cantankerous pawnshop owner in Alabama who spends most of his time swindling customers while trying and failing to get his man-child employee Nathaniel (Jon Bass) to do any work. When Cynthia (Jillian Bell) and her wife Mary (Michaela Watkins) try to hawk a Civil War-era sword inherited from Cynthia’s recently deceased grandfather, he tries to get the better of them. The sword, however, comes with a convoluted report from Cynthia’s grandfather claiming the relic to be proof the South actually won the war. This begins...

Marc Maron has interviewed everyone from Bruce Springsteen to President Obama, so he’s probably learned a few things about being a good interview. Of course, as he points out, he generally has over an hour to talk leisurely speak with his guests in his home and draw out stories beyond the public narrative; it’s a little harder when he’s in the process of giving dozens of interviews largely in press junket settings for his new movie, “Sword of Trust,” now playing in New York and Los Angeles.
Still, Maron doesn’t disappoint, giving frank and honest answers to questions both silly and methodical – specifically, how does one excel in this niche of improvised narratives he’s carved out lately working with the likes of Joe Swanberg and Lynn Shelton?

Zazie Beetz refused to spill on her role in Todd Phillip’s “Joker” movie on the Emmys carpet, telling E!: “I can’t. I’ll probably lose my job if I do.”
“I am about to work on a movie with Joaquin Phoenix and I’m just such a huge fan,” Beetz said. “It’s such an honor to work with him and to follow him as his work.”

Are Gold Derby’s Emmy prognosticators underestimating Marc Maron for Netflix’s “Glow,” for which he plays Sam Sylvia, a failed film director who now directs a women’s wrestling show? He currently sits precipitously in sixth place in our Emmy predictions behind Sean Hayes (“Will & Grace”), Titus Burgess (“Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”), Louie Anderson (“Baskets”), Brian Tyree Henry (“Atlanta”) and Alec Baldwin (“Saturday Night Live”), with recent Tony winner Tony Shalhoub (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”) close on his heels. Maron though may have a stronger chance at a nomination than our charts show.

Dana Gould (Stan Against Evil) and Awkward alum Beau Mirchoff are set to recur on the second season of Showtime drama series I’m Dying Up Here.
Created and executive produced by Dave Flebotte and executive produced by Jim Carrey and Michael Aguilar, the fictional I’m Dying Up Here, based on the book by William Knoedelseder, explores L.A.’s famed 1970s stand-up comedy scene. It delves into the inspired, damaged and complicated psyches of a fictional group of competitive but close-knit comedians mentored by Goldie (Melissa Leo), a brassy comedy club owner who rules over her business with an iron fist but nurtures her comedians with tough love. The ensemble cast also includes Ari Graynor, Clark Duke, Michael Angarano, Rj Cyler, Andrew Santino, Erik Griffin, Al Madrigal and Jake Lacy.
Gould will play Bruce, the slick, alpha-male agent of Adam (Cyler) who thinks “artistic integrity” is another word for “poverty.

Lynn Shelton has made six scruffy relationship dramedies, all set in her hometown of Seattle. When she picked up an agent after “Humpday” premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2009, she figured she’d pay the bills with the occasional TV episode and continue shooting local movies. That’s not the way it turned out.
Over the last eight years, what began as a season-4 episode of “Mad Men” is now an in-demand career as a television comedy director, from Hulu’s “The Mindy Project” and “Casual” to IFC’s “Maron” and nine episodes of ABC’s “Fresh Off the Boat.”
So when Shelton finally reassembled her Seattle film crew to shoot her seventh movie, “Outside In” — produced, co-written and starring Jay Duplass opposite Edie Falco and Kaitlyn Dever — everything was different. First, the movie is Shelton’s first drama. And second, she found herself more prepared than she had ever been.

Seder’s contract was due to expire in February, and the network has no appearances scheduled between now and then, according to initial reports by The Wrap. ‘Easy’ Season 2 Review: Grading Every Episode of Joe Swanberg’s Intimate and Exciting Netflix Series
Joe Swanberg is back! After a fairly under-the-radar Season 1 release in September 2016, Season 2 got the similar low-key marketing treatment before dropping the first day of December.
But don’t take the lack of buzz as a lack of import. Season 1 asked a lot of valuable questions while delivering a beautiful and unique realization of modern Chicago. The anthology approach, with each episode functioning as a standalone short, helped cover a lot of cultural ground, and Season 2 continues that pattern in interesting ways.

While the episodes can certainly stand on their own, many bring back characters from Season 1. Context from earlier episodes isn’t prescient, but it does help, and just like last year, some stories are better than others.
To that end, IndieWire has reviewed each episode individually below and ranked them by their assigned grades.

Louis C.K.'s friends in comedy are speaking out after several women accused the 50-year-old comedian of sexual misconduct in an article released by The New York Times last week.
On Tuesday's Today show, Jon Stewart addressed the allegations made by five women who say C.K. either asked if could masturbate in front of them, or masturbated in front of them without their consent. A day after the Times article was released, C.K. released a statement saying that the women's stories about him were true.
"You know, you give your friends a benefit of the doubt," Stewart, 54, told Today show co-anchor Matt Lauer. "I've had friends who've had compulsions and who have done things -- gambling or drinking or drugs -- and we've lost some of them. Some of them have died. You always find yourself back to a moment of, 'Did I miss something? Could I have done more?'"

While participating in the Take Back the Workplace March in Los Angeles on November 12, actress Elizabeth Perkins implied that she has been mistreated by fellow actor James Woods. Perkins was photographed toting a white, handwritten sign that read, “James Woods #MeToo.” Representatives for Perkins and Woods have not yet responded to requests for comment.
USA Today reported that a few hundred protestors — a confluence of the Take Back the Workplace March and the #MeToo Survivors March — banded together at the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenues, outside the Dolby Theatre, where The Academy’s Governors Awards took place Saturday evening (Perkins, 56, wore a red t-shirt supporting the former, which was organized by The Feminist Majority Foundation, Civican, and We For She).

Indie filmmaker Lynn Shelton is extremely prolific, but it’s been three years since her last feature film, “Laggies,” the diverting Apatow-ian look at arrested development through a female perspective (Keira Knightley starred).
So, where’s she been in all this time? Extremely busy actually, directing multiple episodes of “Master Of None,” “Maron,” “Fresh Off The Boat,” “Good Place,” “New Girl,” “The Mindy Project,” Judd Apatow’s Netflix show “Love,” “Casual,” “Glow,” and the recent Marc Maron stand-up special for Netflix.

Way before The Sopranos‘ Dr. Melfi and Web Therapy‘s Fiona Wallace, the go-to TV therapist was Dr. Katz.
And in his half-hour Comedy Central series, Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist, the good doctor — voiced by comedian Jonathan Katz — served as a sounding board for several of the biggest names in stand-up. In animated form, funnymen and -women like Ray Romano, Louis C.K., Joan Rivers, Bob Odenkirk and their ilk would visit Katz’s office and do bits as they sought his professional help. Eventually, the guest cast included actors like The X-Files‘ David Duchovny, Stranger Things‘ Winona Ryder, Law & Order:...

Warning: This post contains spoilers for the series premiere of Glow. Proceed with caution.
By now, there’s a good chance you’ve watched the first episode of Netflix’s female wrestling comedy Glow. So can we talk about that fight at the end?
