- Dexter Morgan: [narrating] As much as I may have pretended otherwise, for so long, all I wanted was to be like other people. To feel what they felt. But now that I do, I just want it to stop.
- Det. Joseph 'Joey' Quinn: [sniffles] You don't know Deb. She'll, uh - she'll pull through this. You hear about miracles all the time.
- Dr. Cooper: Well, that's just it, I'm afraid. It would be a miracle.
- Dexter Morgan: I've never seen a miracle.
- [leaves quickly]
- Dexter Morgan: [bedside with comatose Deb] I would change everything if I could.
- [sniffles, stifled crying]
- Dexter Morgan: I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. But I can't leave you like this. I'm your big brother.
- [beeping, respirator stops]
- Dexter Morgan: [to her ear] I love you, Deb.
- Dexter Morgan: [hurricane rumbling] I destroy everyone I love. And I can't let that happen to Hannah, to Harrison.
- [revs boat engine]
- Dexter Morgan: I have to protect them from me.
- [roars off into the whipping wind]
- [last lines]
- Hannah McKay: [in Argentinian cafe, reads newspaper headline about Dexter's death]
- Hannah McKay: [taking Harrison by the hand] Hey, uh, how about we go get some ice cream, yeah?
- Harrison Morgan: Okay.
- Hannah McKay: Yeah. Come on...
- Debra Morgan: [flashback]
- [handing new-born Harrison to Dexter]
- Debra Morgan: Talk to him.
- Dexter Morgan: Hello, Harrison.
- [baby grunts and giggles]
- Debra Morgan: See? He knows you.
- Dexter Morgan: I don't know how to do this.
- Debra Morgan: Just keep his head up.
- Dexter Morgan: No, I mean everything. How to be a father, how to take care of him.
- Debra Morgan: You'll be great.
- Dexter Morgan: How do you know?
- Debra Morgan: 'Cause you've always taken care of me.
- Dexter Morgan: I have?
- Debra Morgan: Ever since we were little. Don't you remember the monsters?
- Dexter Morgan: Uh, no.
- Debra Morgan: Every time mom would turn off the lights, they'd be running all over the walls. And I couldn't fuckin' go to sleep 'cause I thought they were gonna eat me or something.
- Dexter Morgan: I don't remember.
- Debra Morgan: They were the shadows. You came in and explained it in your dorky little voice. You were like, "Oh, it's just the absence of light, Deb."
- [both chuckle]
- Debra Morgan: I don't even know why I remember that, but I do. And even then, you stayed in my room and slept on the floor by my bed. You made me feel so fuckin' safe. You were always taking care of me. I know you're gonna be a great father, because you've always been a great big brother.
- Dexter Morgan: You really believe that?
- Debra Morgan: With all my heart.
- Dexter Morgan: [thinking in present time] You were so wrong, Deb.
- Debra Morgan: [waking in hospital bed] Why aren't you in Argentina?
- Dexter Morgan: Why do you think?
- Debra Morgan: I told them not to call you.
- Dexter Morgan: Well, I'm glad they did.
- Debra Morgan: [groggily] How come we never went hiking when we were kids?
- Dexter Morgan: [concern welling] Hiking?
- Debra Morgan: Climbing. Mountains. Hiking.
- Dexter Morgan: I don't know - 'cause it's hard to find a mountain in Florida?
- Debra Morgan: There are mountains in South America.
- Dexter Morgan: All over the place.
- Debra Morgan: Why are you looking at me like that? Or is that just your face?
- [first lines]
- Harrison Morgan: Are we almost there?
- Dexter Morgan: It's, uh, Gate 209. Just a couple more.
- Harrison Morgan: I want some Oreos.
- Dexter Morgan: There'll be food on the plane. Come on, you promised to help me count.
- Harrison Morgan: Two hundred and ten...
- Dexter Morgan: There you go.
- Dexter Morgan: [narrating] I always thought that if I ever left Miami, I'd be running for my life. Not running towards a new one.
