Continuing from The Good Wife
cherylcarty8 March 2024
Elsbeth was an interesting character on The Good Wife - a high powered lawyer who you underestimated because she seemed goofy and also naive. She caught details, however, that others missed. Is her character a bit unbelievable and a bit annoying? Yes, but she's also likable.

More importantly I miss shows like The Good Wife- an ongoing storyline with recurring characters along with a.mystery that is wrapped up in one episode.

At the end of a long workday, I don't want to come home and watch shows that are dark, dystopian, or intense - just a good plot that is a distraction from daily life. If the first episode of Elsbeth is an indication of what is to come, then we have a winner.

I look forward to seeing more of Elsbeth and her quirkiness.

Love the show, but not the soundtrack

This show is 'dumb funny' in the best possible way. Elsbeth is a colorful, intriguing character. Watching Elsbeth is like watching a great salesperson give their pitch; you know where it's going, but it's so entertaining that you can't stop watching. Carrie Preston's delivery is so detailed, and the costume desires really know how to make her stand out. This show makes me think of a cross between Columbo and Mary Tyler Moore, but unfortunately it seems like they ran out of budget and had to use soundbites of crappy canned porno music. This would be a great show, if only they would hire some quality composers and invest just a little bit in their sound department.

She's the new Columbo!
betbull813 April 2024
My husband and I recently started rewatching Columbo. I knew I loved Elsbeth in "The Good Wife," but I didn't know why. Watching this first episode it dawned on it, that she's just like Columbo: people write her off as ridiculous, clumsy or stupid, but really she's very savvy and keeps asking questions until she has her answers! I'm waiting to hear her say, "Oh just one more thing."

Great writing, storyline and a wonderful job by Carrie Preston and friends! I think Peter Falk himself would applaud!

As for the idea she has ASD, I don't know where that came from. Did she state she was diagnosed on one of the other shows? I see where someone might think that, but I rather think her quirks are more an act to disarm her suspect.

Love this character!

So I may be a little biased because I really love this character from her previous series on The Good Wife. That being said I thought this was an amazing pilot to kick off a new series with a really unique and already fleshed out character. That is probably an advantage compared to most new series. I enjoy looking to see what this spin-off has to offer. The pilot offered some really good actors is a counterpart in the introductory mystery. I liked the fact that it continues to have some intrigue related to a character, played by an actor I also really like, that might involve a theme that seems to underline this series; namely, that she doesn't work as a defense lawyer anymore but is on the other side.

Pilot.

The Knives Out movies. Poker face. Now Elsbeth, a scatty but sherp lawyer from The Good Wife gets her own spin off. It looks like Columbo is back in vogue.

Elsbeth does not even hide its inspiration. Elsbeth Tascioni (Carrie Preston) is in New York on a temporary assignment where she is shadowing the police. Even they do not know what her purpose is.

Just that she has been sent over from Chicago. Elsbeth is looking forward to visit the sights of New York.

Only to help herself to a murder case that is made to look like suicide.

Theatre student and aspiring actress Olivia Cherry has been sleeping with her professor Alex Modarian (Stephen Moyer.) He is also a noted director and favours the students he sleeps with.

Only Alex has moved on to the next student and Olivia threatened to report him to the Dean of the college as a serial womaniser.

So Alex came up with a crafty plan to finish Olivia off. The police would had fallen for it but Elsbeth smells a love rat. For example a woman would not whiten her teeth just before she planned to kill herself.

The pilot was fun and breezy. Elsbeth is on the right side of annoying, especially to the main suspect. You just wonder maybe it is time to remake Columbo!

Warning: Spoilers
Poker Face was the breakout hit of 2023 for Peacock, and this new CBS series feels like they asked the Kings to recreate it for them.

Not a carbon copy, but the same old school mystery with a quirky female lead.

If they can get big names to play good characters like Stephen Moyer did here then maybe this show could work. I also worry the premise may get a bit tiring too.

It was a solid start, and I am glad they only focused on a few core characters in this episode, but I think they need to expand the world a little bit if they hope to really evolve into a show people get excited about watching.

She is AUTISTIC!
lbrentnj11 April 2024
The reviews call Elsbeth Quirky, a Weirdo, Offbeat. They laugh and make fun of her.

She is on the Spectrum for Autism! What other group would put up with this? This world has become hypersensitive to seemingly everything but not mental disabilities?

There are plenty of stereotypes to go around that get people fired and castigated. Why is this different? Hollywood is the first to push causes. Why not mentally challenged people. I raised a daughter with Autism; I can't tell you how many times she was hurt by bigots.

Christ said, "that which is done to the least of my brethren is done unto me."

That's just wrong.
