- Ivy Lynn: I'd like to thank my mother, Leigh Conroy- the magnificent Leigh Conroy- for giving me the greatest gift. And that is a life in the theater. I can only hope that, one day, I can give that gift to my children. For me, there is nothing more magical than that moment right as the lights go down and the crowd is waiting in silence with anticipation for the show to begin. It's a moment full of hope and full of possibilities. So I'd like to thank the audience for coming and for believing, as I do, that there is nothing more important or special as live theater. Thank you so much.
- Karen Cartwright: [enters Derek's room, he lies indolently on bed] Hi.
- [offers shopping bag]
- Karen Cartwright: Juice, coffee... shaving cream.
- [he is less than enthusiastic, and she drops it down]
- Karen Cartwright: What? I told you I was bringing supplies.
- [sits down next to him on bed]
- Derek Wills: I thought you meant more booze.
- Karen Cartwright: Yeah, well, that you seem capable of getting yourself.
- Derek Wills: They deliver.
- Karen Cartwright: So you've been in this room the whole time? Just... just gonna stay in here forever?
- [shrugs]
- Derek Wills: It's the third time you've been in here this week.
- [she clambers up towards the pillow on her side]
- Derek Wills: I thought after the first time I'd scared you off.
- Karen Cartwright: Yeah, well, I'm worried about you.
- Derek Wills: Don't be. I deserve it. I did all the things I said I did.
- Karen Cartwright: Remember what you said in Boston? "The more you hurt, the better."
- Derek Wills: I just said that to get you onstage.
- Karen Cartwright: [smiles] Well, it worked. And I'm glad I did it.
- [encouraging:]
- Karen Cartwright: This will pass... but you have to let it.
- Derek Wills: Do I really?
- [sprawling over bed, reaches for another gulp of his drink]
- Derek Wills: You can see yourself out.
- Eileen Rand: [in between awards] Karen.
- Karen Cartwright: Eileen. What are you doing out here? Your category's up next.
- Eileen Rand: I wanted to talk to you. I know how you must be feeling right now. But let me tell you, as somebody who lost a great many times before I ever won: Time's on your side. Don't lose heart.
