Somebody fires Kristen please.
theonewithansia325 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I gotta say, this episode was okay. I loved Madney's storyline, they are always so funny, and imo it suited so well for them to be in trouble with the taxes, like I laughed so hard for the whole scene of them revealing every secret they were keeping from the finances, like please. Loved it

Angela Bassett did the thing once again. She is always the superdtar of the episode, and she is so in charge of everything, like how Athena immediately found out hoe that dude was. She is so mother.

Eddie's storyline was also a strong one: it showed us how he is still processing the death if Shannon, and, while doing so, he got the "life is too short" concept, and so he started thinking about getring in touch with his loved ones. Loved it also. (KUDOS for the Chris - Buck parallel on the couch, idk if it was intentional or not, i don't care actually, because it simply show that parenting relationship that Buck has with Chris)

Buck's storyline was.... a choice. Honestly, we are growing sick and tired of love interest thst are like put there just for us to basically hate them: Natalia is just another oerson of the long list of people who are bssically trying to use Buck for a selfish reason. She basically wanted to date him only to know what death looks like. I'm sorry, but this is all I got. And for him to basically fall in love woth her in like two minutes, saying that she is the only one who sees him, like please, c'mon dude you sre truly out of your mind. (I'm not gonna make this about buddie, I just pin-pointing how bad this is for buck character-wise.) I truly hope she is here only for making Buck understand something else about himself and stop, then coming back to the black hole she came up from.

All of this just to say: Kristen, please stop writing and thinking ideas. Ever heard of gardening? Please, consider it.

Never know what you're gonna get with this show...except Eddie and Chris will always save it
itisiabanana25 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
9-1-1 has been weird ever since Kristen Reidel took over. Bumps along the way with a new showrunner are expected, and I don't know how much of the trouble is her fault, Tim Minear IS still the boss boss, but...the quality of the show has been all over the place for a while. Half an episode is great and touching, the other half of it is a heaping mess. Some characters are handled well and in character, others are just all over the place.

Clearly they're going for cheaper emergencies in general, but I can't help but feel that they are really missing the mark. The emergencies have no heart and no intensity. Like, something can be low budget and still pull your heartstrings, but I haven't been feeling it on this show for a while now.

As far as individual character arcs in this episode...

Eddie and Christopher were, as always, at this point, the best part of the episode. They're pretty much the only aspect of the show that makes me really feel anything. I felt for Eddie so much (and kudos to Ryan Guzman whose acting has been very impressive)...he's been doing a lot of work to heal and move on. I hope he'll be truly happy soon. Buck's comment to him in the cemetery about Natalia being the one to truly see him must have hurt Eddie so much. As if he hasn't been by Buck's side for years at this point, seeing him for who he is, doing everything he can to be there for him. Even in that moment, Eddie's words for Buck were so much more meaningful and insightful than anything we saw from Natalia.

Now speaking of Natalia, and Buck. Wow. Do we really have to do this again? I went into the episode with an open mind about her, because I hope(d) she'd be a meaningful character that could help him come to see some truths he needs to accept. Maybe eventually that'll happen, if he see's what must have been obvious to everyone else: She's only interested in studying him. In learning about his "cool" death, which was anything but. I am so tired of Buck's storylines and pathetic love interests. I truly hoped after his death and his coma dream revelations we'd see some change for the better. But...more of the same. AGAIN. I really hope the writer's can pull this back by the end of the season and do something new and meaningful with him so this painful watch is worth something for once. And finally, I'm sorry, but the actress for Natalia was not very good and there truly was no chemistry. Hard to watch.

As for the other stories, Maddie and Chim were...there. I actually don't mind the idea of them getting married just for tax purposes because they already have a wonderful relationship and life and marriage is not needed to "prove" how in love you are or how committed. If this gives us some sweet moments and growth and maybe a fun party, I'm all for it.

Athena and Bobby were kind of filler in this episode for me, and it was boring, to be honest. I love them, but didn't love that storyline.

Overall, solid episode, I guess, but I'm always left a little unsatisfied and feeling as if something is missing from the show.

Not feeling the new romance for Buck
janto-5426025 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I can't see a romance forming between Buck and Natalia he wants to live the life he got another chance with and she seems to care more about his death that isn't something to build a romantic relationship on especially when both want different things. It would be nice to see a friendship form between them as Buck comes to terms with his death there are not enough friendships for Buck or Eddie with females that aren't tried to turn into love interest there is only Hen, Karen(who we don't see enough), Maddie, Athena and we were given teases of Eddie's friendship with Linda which we need to see more of. Not every female and male relationships need to be romantic. I loved the father and son moments between Eddie and Christopher and their visit to Shannon's grave was heartbreaking. And I am really rooting for a Chimney/Maddie wedding for the finale.

Eddie and Chris saving an awful episode once again.
stillnotyourbusiness25 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This show is definitely done and there's no turning back. Bad episode after bad episode, same old storylines that didn't work in the past bringing them back because the writers and Kristen don't have one single creative idea.

Using taxes to make Maddie and Chimney marry is just so bad, they have overcome so many things and instead of allowing them to have a nice proposal and so on, they decided to use this excuse. I can't believe their relationship has been so poorly treated this season, cutting scenes, rushing through everything and just hoping cute scenes with their daughter would appease the masses.

Let's hope this means they will finally stop using Shannon as an excuse for every arc of Eddie and Chris. Obviously you just don't move on from you mother's/wife's death, but it feels like everything that has happened to Eddie and Chris (expect for the shooting) was because they missed Shannon, and it's just boring now. However, that scene at the graveyard was so emotional and Gavin and Ryan did an incredible job.

I can't believe they ruined it with having Buck there talking about a person he has only met who only cares about him because he died. I'm just sick and tired of Buck having useless storylines, and him being thrown down he dating road every time they don't have any new ideas. At least he used to have chemistry with the girls, lately it's just awful to watch (I guess Oliver is also tired of this, and he decided that we should suffer from second hand embarrassment).

The excuse is that he needs these arcs to see that he has people who love him, but they have been doing so in season 1, season 2, season 4, season 5 and season 6. One of these days, it would actually have to stick, I guess.

This guy doesn't need a girlfriend, he needs a therapist. They need to stop bringing girl after girl to develop his character, it's just plain misogyny. Women are not complements to men to help them move from one point to the other.

In other seasons, when the personal storylines weren't it you at least had emergencies to make it interesting. It's not the case.

Evan is going to fall hard, more than w Abby
diannnnnn2 May 2023
Buck and Natalia definitely have chemistry. " It's like an Angel is watching over you" says Buck to the old lady, in the same frame Natalia is seen above Buck in the distance, brilliant editing. My guess: Evan is gonna fall hard.

I read somewhere that Oliver and the actress who plays Natalia did the same screen chemistry test that Ronen and Rafael did for Lone Star, so I think this at least is going to be a important relationship for Buck.

In general I liked the episode, Eddie and Chris are amazing per usual, Eddie is slowly discovering that there's life beyond being a dad 24x7 and beyond the grief of his wife passing.

Rating should be lower... But it'd be a disservice to Ryan & Gavin
phambe-4152526 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Again another crappy episode which is saved by Ryan & Gavin's performance. Eddie's healing storyline shines again as it shows the recovery road from any trauma isn't linear. There could easily be relapsed looming along the way, given how loneliness has been his theme lately.

Nothing against Chim & Maddie's, but seriously, is that storyline even realistic? Don't normal people just talk when it comes to tax filling? Do we need this episode & possibly following ones for them to tie the knot?

And Buck, you just keep regressing to 1.0 (lamer) version. Not even a Buddie shipper here, just some sucker for good meaningful long-lasting friendship. It feels like Buck doesn't even respect & acknowledge whatever Eddie (and everyone) has been doing to show him acceptance, love and support. Eddie's subtle reaction was so on point - like he's been slapped. At this point I wish there'd be some blow-up just like at 3x06 (in the grocery store) for Buck to get his head out of his own ass.

When Are You Going To Get Real Writers???
JMadems25 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Where do you get this junk? The Death Doula is right up there with the pervert Dr Wells who took advantage of Buck in S1. She sees him as an enigma, something to be examined in a test tube almost and he's thinking how he's finally found someone that "gets him." Not hardly dude. You're just going to be her lab rat!

The most frequent comment I've heard about her is "creepy" - that's the best I see. Probably an meh actress normally but played this really weird - just way too eager to start taking his little brain apart. Was waiting for the drool to appear in that coffee scene. Don't you hire people that supposedly have chemistry- cause there was nothing between those two. I hope she isn't on a long term contract - but maybe Kristen got another actress that works cheap like "Taylor."

Loved Athena - go get 'em. Seeing Eddie and Chris was good. Missing his family after that pre-funeral experience was about the only normal thing in the show.

Emergencies were dull but cheap to stage again. I fear this is very telling when it comes time for renewal. TPTB feel the show is too expensive to keep around. So let's just let it die a death of stupid, inane and boring.

The Madney situation was about as stupid as these writers can get - where do they come up with this crap. Being audited - together - which is illegal- and for the taxes they just filed??

Doesn't anybody in this organization bother to have experts review this muck? Pathetic. That's even worse than S6-1's blimp crash. Again obviously no expert consulted there.

Where's Karen & Hen? Just a quick scene would have been nice. Oh well, a little tiny bit of Ravi was better than so many episodes without him.

And bring on that big buff guy from the 133 that moved Athena out of the way. He could give Buck a little competition!! Noticed and appreciated by many.

Buck's storylines continues to ruin this show.
Jocelyn7225 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I loathed this episode and what they have done to Bucks character. Suddenly a hot girl appears and says "oh wow you died, so freaking cool!" and Buck sees it as something great? Romantic even? It's ridiculous, I feel offended both as a viewer and a fan of 118 almost family-like relationship, that always brought me so much comfort. What's even more ridiculous is that Buck said this Doula Death sees him. I'm sorry what? Did the lightning completely grilled his last remaining brain cells? I can't even begin to see why Buck would see that in Natalia based on their date it's baffling to me. But lately the writing doesn't even make sense and the real question is whether this whole situation is just bad writing of Buck's character or something that's going to come back and blow up in his face. I'm honestly not sure if the writers know what they're doing right now.

If the show gets a Season 7 i think we really need some new writers and definitely a new showrunner.

We are all 🤡
emmak-5282025 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Why did I think the 6b was going to be about Bobby Nash and his possible "breakdown"? Why I thought it would be something like Eddie's story in 5b. Even his amazing PTSD story lasted longer than Bobby, who got nothing since s2, Nash's storyline.

Will it be only about Buck and Madney until the finale? I love them, I love every character but... there's an episode called DEATH and taxes, and there's no mention of Bobby's connection to death. Not only his past family, not even Wendall. I wished he could get a proper storyline as it was in s1 and s2 when he used to be taken as the LEAD actor.

After years of being just a captain and Athena's husband, he deserved something MORE. The story with Wendall was great but... how do you expect us to care about someone who was introduced and killed in the same episode and you not even mentioned his name sooner? 🤷‍♀️

And what about story Bobby got. The plot divided into 1 episode involving Athena and May in the investigation and being worried about him and 1 episode of finding the truth. And yet, it seemed to be the second plot because of Buck's injury. That's all he got after YEARS of having nothing and just being shoulder to lean on.

What about his parents? Where are they? Are they alive? What about his brother or someone from his first wife's family? Do they know Athena or where Bobby actually is?

And what about his injuries? He was exposed to radiation, he got shot, the roof fell on him and he is always completely fine with no consequences. What about his back and the story behind it? Not even a honeymoon happened as well as fun empty nest time. There's so many questions and you're still focused on finding a woman for Buck.

And Bathena. We got ep. Devil you know and Recovery about them and all the other episodes were only about 1 or 2 scenes with them at home which lasted no longer that a minute and half .

I was a fan during hard covid times in s4 where his character got really nothing. I was a fan even during not usual s5 where he was supposed to reveal some secrets (didn't happen). We are in s6 and it feels like he never gets a proper storyline again with a deeper focus. We'll rather watch Buck and Eddie date every season because it's not ok being single in this world. And wasting screen time for random women in their lives as if they both hadn't known each other in years. We are all 🤡🤡🤡 ... and yes, Bobby Nash fans too.

So once again we have to wait for the finale where he'll have something to do like in the last ep. Of s4 and s5. I don't want to be rude or impolite. This show has an amazing cast and crew, but these storylines of the last years are not the reason why I used to watched this show and enjoyed it.

I'm just tired of waiting and hoping that something will change, including for Bobby. Because he's my favorite and the main reason why I watch this show. And now, I just think if it's worth watching something that makes you sadder and unhappy. 😞

Where the h*ll are THE writers of s1-s3?

What is this show even trying to do anymore?
CeeCeeLove2128 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
After last week had some truly delightful moments we are back to another filler episode that can't really decide what it's trying to do so it ends up just mostly being a waste of time.

The Athena storyline was filler but it was at least a little interesting with the body swapping guy, and it's always nice to see karma coming back around for bad people. For me, Athena's storylines are the best when she's responding to help people in crisis and those always fit better with the heart of the show so her punitive justice storylines are meh for me. This season has also been severely lacking in good emergency calls (on the weeks we get any at all. Remind me what this show is called again?) so at least Athena's storyline gave us some scenes of emergency response though it was weird that for some reason they had the 133 instead of sending the main characters to the emergency in the show about our main characters responding to emergencies.

The Maddie/Chim storyline this week is just so dumb. It's hard to imagine they didn't sit down and do the taxes together. Unless you have something majority complex, the computer filing is free and takes less than an hour and itemization isn't really needed until you're dealing with more money than a couple that both work and still needed help to buy a house are working with. I get they wanted a little fun in the episode but not everything needs to be a joke and that's something Kristen has REALLY struggled with finding balance with since she took over (lookin at you sperm donor arc with such potential that got turned into masturbation jokes instead of character development). It's so disrespectful to a relationship that back in seasons 2-4 was some of the best build up I've ever seen. These two have been through so much they deserve to both get married because they WANT to, and honestly, Maddie proposing because she's ready to take that step would make the most sense. Maybe that's where this is going for the finale but as of right now with what we have seen? Madney's love story deserves better than to be constantly played for laughs after brushing aside everything they went through, better than resolving everything off screen, and better than the family they built on love being turned into a tax shelter marriage. The only saving grace (and one the show has been clearly using as a crutch), is that Kenny and Jen are magical on screen together and genuinely hilarious, and baby Jee is adorable meaning that while the storyline is flimsy at best, at least the scenes about it are at least watchable.

The same thing can be said for the Eddie/Chris scenes this episode-poorly planned and executed storyline saved by Ryan and Gavin being such a powerhouse duo on screen. Their scenes were still somehow able to hit some heavy emotional beats because of those two despite whatever material they are given to work with. Because, continuing on the unearned parental redemption train, we're bringing Shannon back to garner sympathy before Eddie "moves on" from her (despite having a serious gf last season and already going through a big talk with Bobby about moving forward). Great. Never mind that she abandoned her husband who had nearly died, and her disabled child, and cut off all contact, now we're going with sitting by her graveside reminiscing about a woman Eddie only ever fought with, and Chris would barely have remembered being around at this point? He was what, 5 when she left the first time? A far better, more interesting, and true to the heart of the show story would be Chris struggling as he gets older and understands more about what happened. A scene with Chris and Eddie having an honest conversation re: complex feelings about good memories vs Chris' growing understanding of her abandoning them would be far better than whatever this nonsense is I mean, Eddie wistfully stroking a picture of Shannon?! When seasons 2-3 showed us how deeply incompatible they were, constantly fighting and never in agreement even about Chris, and how they only got married because she was pregnant and how Eddie struggled to recover from how angry he was?? When Kristen said Eddie was going to be looking to recapture the spark he felt, we were all joking that it had to be about Buck because he's never been show to have had a spark (outside the physical with Shannon who was just using sex to get Eddie to agree to let her see Chris) with anyone else. But apparently Kristen is just rewriting history to serve the plot SHE wants to write, regardless if it makes sense for the characters. On top of that, we get the erasure of Eddie's struggles with his mom ("Don't drag him down with you" haunts me) while again showing Eddie having to put in all the effort to see them instead of his retired parents coming to see him. I think the scene was supposed to be "sweet" and push the idea that Eddie is lonely and is going to realize he DOESN'T "have time" so that it makes sense when he jumps into things with whatever lady Kristen throw at him this time. Funny though that we've never seen him being lonely until now, only after Buck is busy chasing someone new. They're never going to beat the Buddie allegations if they keep having them only start looking at women and being lonely when the other one is being set up on dates by family or too busy to hang out.

Unfortunately "flimsy storyline, but at least watchable" CANNOT be said about whatever was going on with Buck this episode and apparently the rest of the season. (My eyes hurt from rolling at this latest push by Kristen to avoid the pull of the narrative in it's logical direction and at the copy/past of the "meet-cute" Eddie had with Ana right down to the hand injury.) We are once again back exactly where we have been since Kristen took over, with Buck feeling like maybe THIS woman will fix everything for him and it is just so beyond tired at this point. Buck used to be a fan and general audience fave, but Kristen seems bent on ruining him by not allowing him to ever learn or grow, just recycling the same things and struggles for him over and over until the fans and even casual audience viewers are sick of seeing him. And it breaks my heart because he is SUCH a good character and there is so much potential for good storylines with him that dig into his traumas and then let him GROW from the experience, but every time it looks like we might get that, Kristen swerves, makes the whole thing about someone else, and then reverts Buck back to square one to try it again. Enough is ENOUGH.

It's clear that this is just yet another attempt to find a viable love interest for Buck that they can keep in their pocket for next season, however I have never seen anything more cringy than their interactions, and I watched the Eddie/Ana math date and suffered a season of Buck/Taylor. Not only is this woman a ridiculous choice for a character who is supposed to be guiding elderly people through end of life stuff (who better than a 20-something with barely any life experience and acts like she's never spoken to someone who has been that close to death before?), but she's also incredibly unsympathetic and quick to make light of something that is clearly a struggle for Buck to talk about. Her squealing like a schoolgirl about how "freaking cool" it was that he died was so deeply uncomfortable and gross to watch. Buck's family sure didn't think it was so freaking cool when they were yelling for him, and performing CPR, and begging him to stay with them. It feels like Taylor all over again. She's just another using him, while the dialogue forces words into Buck's mouth about how great and wonderful and interesting this women is and how she truly understand him, in hopes of getting the audience on board. Meanwhile, Eddie is standing next to Buck ACTUALLY seeing him, and has BEEN seeing him for five seasons now! It's so right there and in your face it would be comical if it wasn't for the showrunner saying fans are just seeing things and none of this is intentional. But if it's not intentional, then what are they doing? Because that scene of Buck and Eddie at the cemetery may have felt very forced and on the nose about pushing their new dating arcs dialogue wise but even with all that, they still looked a second away from a love confession and in all that open space they're still bumping shoulders and standing practically on top of each other.

This flavor of the week love interest is such a waste of time when there are SO many characters the viewers already knows and love that Buck could talk to. Chim and Karen both have clinically died on screen within the past season! Everyone in the firefam has almost died at some point! Hell, we could have found out Ravi nearly died while battling cancer as a child and let them talk! Kristen brushing aside years of friendship and family and LOVE from people who genuinely care about Buck just to force this new woman is a slap in the face to the firefam, to Eddie and the Buckley-Diaz family unit, and it makes Buck as a character so casually hurtful to the people around him and look so clueless. It's beyond clear that Kristen doesn't understand found family so it is past time to get her AWAY from the found family show.

Final notes, Ravi remains adorable and a delight to have back on the team. More of him getting to talk to everyone please!
