The Ordnance Survey map of Bewton that Vera points to is loosely based on the map of Horncliffe, south west of Berwick-upon-Tweed and very close to the English-Scottish border. The small town of Bewton is completely fictitious and is in the place of a house called Thornton Park. The railway line that is referred to and shown on the map is also fictitious and is not related to the real-life dismantled railway which ran in a different direction.
