So far the production has been a high note for me this season, and it's nice to have the beloved main characters' (Ryan, Greer, Mike, and Wright) interactions, intelligence, and wit as an anchor for the show. Jack Ryan has become more of a "no funny business", hardened and expert action hero guy with each season, and now that he's a deputy director he's getting even more serious. Luckily he's back with his girlfriend from the first season, which brings a little lightness to the plot, and there are always tasteful jokes here and there to provide some comic relief.
The Chavez/Miller/Mexico/Myanmar/Pluto plot can be hard to follow at times, but I get the gist of it and a clear impression of imminent danger for Jack and his friends in the CIA-as well as anyone unfortunate enough to cross these bad guys. Chavez, Miller, and the Myanmar guy each have enough background ambiguity and story to leave one to wonder if they're really a "good guy" or a "bad guy"...or just caught up in the wrong stuff. Miller's death was quite chilling to watch...a gruesome scene as seems to be common in this show at least once every few episodes. I actually felt bad for him despite him being a major tool in the third season and his apparent criminal involvement...he seemed quite scared about the state of things in his last hour or so alive.
Anyways, the vibe of the show seems to have changed a lot from season to season. The rawness of the first season made it very strong (to me irreplaceable) but I appreciate the polished feel of the show now that Jack has some major missions under his belt. He couldn't always be the up-and-comer-hero :) I'm excited to see where things go from here and a little sad that this apparently final season will have only six episodes. Here's to a good sendoff for a good show...may it be executed well!
