Feel-good romance with interesting enough plotline for suspense
sharmisthasathya19 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I am currently watching the latest released episode, ep 10, and I can say that the drama is just a bit above average. It has a good cast, interesting plotline, different lovelines, suspense and tension.

Ban Ji Eum (the main female lead) can remember her past lives. In her 18th life she met a boy named Mun Seo Ha (the main male lead) and she loved him. However she was murdered in that life and was quickly reborn. In her current 19th life, she has done everything to get close to Mun Seo Ha and revealed to him that she was his first love in her past life. They then start dating. Going back to her remembering her past lives, remembering the events in your 1st life is supposed to explain the reason why she can remember her past lives. A guy called Kang Min Gi comes into her life and explains this to her since he also remembers his past lives. There is some suspense here since we have yet to find out about her past life. She has had some random memories about her 1st life with scenes including Kang Min Gi and Mun Seo Ha with so we have yet to find out who they were to her before.

Overall, the plotline is pretty good and unique. The romance is cute but there isn't enough chemistry between the main leads for me to be hooked on to the romance. We are always kept in suspense as the writer unveils things one by one.

As a person who loves romance kdramas, with main leads who are super cute together and small moments which make me fall for them, I don't really like this drama that much but I would recommend it to people who don't rely on romance to watch something.

See You in My 19th Life: A Charming and Delightful Romantic Comedy with a Creative Twist
ergo-5853415 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
See You in My 19th Life is a movie that delivers a charming and delightful romantic comedy experience, with a strong chemistry between the leads and a creative premise. The movie is well-directed, well-written, and well-acted, with a faithful and fun adaptation of the webtoon that captures its essence and spirit. The movie also has a colorful and vibrant visual style, a catchy and upbeat soundtrack, and a sweet and touching message about love and destiny. The movie is not without its flaws, however, as some of the plot points are predictable or unrealistic, some of the characters are underdeveloped or annoying, and some of the scenes are too cheesy or clichéd. The movie also suffers from a lack of depth, as it does not explore the implications or consequences of reincarnation in a meaningful way. See You in My 19th Life is a movie that is enjoyable and adorable, but not groundbreaking or memorable.

Great acting, flaws in storyline
Sarah797198927 July 2023
This series is a sci-fi where the main actor is living her 19th life as the title already suggests.

Great actors and acting but not much chemistry between the actors. Probably due to slow paced storyline which could have been difficult for the director to mold into something with more suspense and chemistry. The storyline itself is full of holes, meaning unrealistic situations or storyline that either make no sense or that feel too 'cold'. In addition there are way too many flashbacks and repetition of same frames. It must have been a hell of a job for the actors to work through this. Kudos to them and the entire team for sticking through it all and for delivering an acceptable result.

To the individuals who are pointing out that alcohol was invented in Iran and who are so upset: please don't be upset at this show. Be concerned about your leaders in your county who kills girls that wear no scarf and who have banned alcohol. Don't take this show as a documentary where every fact is correct. This show is a sci-fi and almost no facts in this show are correct or true. It's just for entertainment.

I would urge you to stop spreading hate and to start spreading love. It starts with YOU.

Lets just say then, that we're destined to love each other for no reason. We'll be in love like everyone else. Our souls will then become one, and we will find peace.

What a ride!!!

This was pure joy to watch...I know it was also, sadness, and frustration, and fear, and a lot of anger and heartbreak. But it had all The good feelings too!!

It is of course a very passionate and sweet love story, one of those epic love stories that transcends time and space and no one can't stop from happening. But it is more than that.

This series is about a deeper kind of love. A deep love with that feeling of longing, of wanting to live the best things in life with the people you love, to share with them all their problems and worries and being able to give them hope and care for them when they need you the most.

That love that you need every day to keep you going. The love that gives you that very warm feeling of belonging.

It was such an amazing story full of learnings and so beautifully written.

The chemistry between the main leads is good and I just have to make a special mention about the exceptional acting of Shin Hye Sun. In case you don't know her yet, you need to watch the rest of her work quickly. She is one of the most talented and multifaceted actresses in South Korea and she can literally transform herself into any character and personality she wants. In this series yet again, she is just going from comedy to drama, passing through every single emotion possible and she literally nails every single one of them. She is just formidable.

The pace was perfect, i would have wished it would have lasted a few more episodes but just because I was enjoying it so much, but the ending wasn't rushed and everything fell into place quite nicely. No holes in the story and no clichés, well written characters too.

so melodramatic
laughteraddict8 September 2023
I have no idea how is this k-drama considered comedy. I was looking to watch a good comedy k-drama after finishing one comedy k-drama and liking it, only to end up surprised by this one. See you in my 19th life is a very tragic show, it represents melancholy and many other feelings and it definitely made me cry for hours although it's rare for me to feel this emotional over shows. If you're looking for a comedy show, this is NOT the one, I'm not sure of the original source material but the adaptation isn't comedy. But if you're looking for a show that will make you on edge and test your emotions and make you think about your priorities, then this show will make you have a good cry while doing so!

This was just beautiful!
hannynorbert23 July 2023
I am amazed by the talent of Yeji Min, the writer of this show. Same for the director, Lee Na-Jeong. Both ladies excel here, they simply nailed the story.

My 10 out of 10 score gives also away that the actors deliver just as flawlessly. Unbelievable. I do hope there will be a 2nd season somehow, even though the 1st season rounds things off perfectly.

Cinematography: another masterful aspect of the show. Some images lingered on with me for a long time, but I don't want any spoilers. You will know what I am talking about for sure.

You do not hear this sentence often from a 50-year-old man, but here it is: this was just beautiful!

Just above average: a bit disappointing
jaldred-6612023 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Shin Hye-Sun was fantastic in Mr Queen so I had high hopes for this. She does her best with the material but the story just has loads of loopholes in. All the actors are very good but I found the ending ridiculous (maybe I'm too practical but what happened when her memory was wiped: she was still able to go back to her old job? But no recall of where she had been living?). If you are looking for a light watch with a happy ending then this is fine but I wouldn't put it at the top of my must watch list. Ahn Bo-Hyun has also been in much better here he doesn't get the chance to be much more than a clothes horse.

Cute and feel-good romance
alternate_17 June 2023
Despite a number of tragedies in our cute and cool protagonists' lives, their practical and sometimes surreal approach to things sets them apart from other fictional couples, making them very real and relatable.

The approach to romance is old-school yet the setting in the modern world is pretty astute. Nothing seems out of the place or unbelievable despite the fantastical setting. In keeping with the (thankfully) recent trends in doing away with the damsel-in-distress romances, our female protagonist is a doer rather than a dreamer, not leaving things to destiny and taking control of what she hopes from her life (or at least the one she is on!). I also loved the subtle subtext that the soul doesn't have a set gender-identity.

Recommend this fresh-take in characters from different lifetimes!

Cute show
nicowa-792273 August 2023
I kind of liked it, and almost binged it. It did not feel dragged, and 12 episodes is just fine.

The two main characters might not have the best chemistry, and the male lead was a bit stiff.

In some Korean shows, the music is annoying, but in this show, it is very discreet and did not bother me.

The plot itself did have quite a few holes, and the ending made me ask «Why?» a few times. Some things does not make sense(even when I looked past the fantasy things), and the writers should have altered a few things regarding the memory loss in the last episodes.

What is going on with the negative Iranians in here? I do not remember any of it, and have no idea what they are talking about. No reason to feel so upset about such small matters!

Finished another k-drama 'See you in my 19th Life'

It's a fantasy romantic drama.

This is another kdrama which is based on Webtoon.

As it's based on past life, reincarnation theme, it has lots of flashbacks, which sometimes jarring to watch.

Initial episodes are good than later.

Young versions & child actors are adorable to watch.

Ahn Bo-hyun didn't impress me this time. Shin Hye-sun does her best what she can with the material she got. Lead pair's chemistry didn't impress me. Others are OK. Other technical aspects are ok.

I would say this is an above average drama. Not so good not so bad.

Available on Netflix.

Shin HaeSun; the acting genius
jorishsuaybaguio1 July 2023
Shin Hae Sun act perfectly 😍 and all the cast was fantastic. The drama have a rollercoaster emotions and all the cast portry their assign character well. It sad that somehow wrong information speading around and accuse this drama. Wish that everyone will enlightened and the wrong accusations will end. The drama just tell about who bring the soju in Korea, not the person who discover the alcohol. I know that it was just misunderstanding and misinterpreted. I really wish that this drama become popular not only in korea but also in worldwide. This drama was take so long just to give as good result and everyone give their best. Let just enjoy the show and spread love.

Wish it was Longer!
elvirammomo8 August 2023
12 episodes Netflix!?! Really?? Like how did anyone read this script and not think Mmmh maybe we shouldn't try to end 4 or more storylines in one episode because it's impossible! The story would have been so much richer and developed strongly if it was a classic 16 episode k-drama. The ending was so rushed, so many open ended stories had to be resolved and it just turned out sloppy. Still, I really enjoyed this, reminded me of Goblin somewhat. And of course the main actress is wonderful, she continues in Mr. Queen fashion to make her character super lovable. Now the main actor, we'll idk this is a better performance than Yuma's Cells so I guess that's some improvement lol Overall really sweet and heartfelt, just wish it was longer!

Worth watching!!
amnafaisal-627792 July 2023
I love how they portrayed the main character's ability to remember her past lives. They haven't yet dwelled into her lives past her 18th but it is definitely something that could make this kdrama even better than it already is. If you aren't a fan of cliches though this might not be the best choice for you. This kdrama mixes many different cliches together (ceo x employee, forbidden love, cold ml x cheerful fl) but is also there very non-cliche aspect of the female lead. The female lead is amazing, her character is very very entertaining to watch. She's definitely got to be in. My Top 3 kdrama female characters!! I say it is a must watch because of the female lead!

Best Drama of 2023
spsczctr1 July 2023
Aah!! I've read the webtoon and was wondering how will they make it live action. But all the cast are doing such an amazing job. I literally friend while watching every episodes till now. Ahn Bo Hyun as Seoha is spectacular. He completely transformed in moon seoha, that drunk scene or the trauma scenes you just wanna protect him by all cost. Shin Hye Sun as Ban Ji-eum is perfect. We needed a drama where female lead protects male lead and this drama gives that.

Special thanks to child actors who gave their 100 to bring the character alive. When little Seoha was crying it broke my heart.

The drama gives the exact vibes of the webtoon. If you have read the webtoon you will know what feelings I'm talking about.

Please do watch this drama as this is the best drama where you will cry, laugh, and get angry on few characters. 10000000/10.

Starts strong, overall pretty average
meemsyd22 August 2023
This show starts off strong, with an intriguing supernatural/reincarnation story and excellent setup. There's child actors who are excellent at portraying a nuanced backstory for the main leads, and some loveable side characters too.

Unfortunately as the series progresses they don't really develop the side characters much, some plot points kind of come out of nowhere and aren't resolved in a satisfying way, and for me the romance didn't really hit - mostly because of how persistent the female lead is towards the male lead, I just kept thinking how uncomfortable I would be if I was in that situation (and I'm female, thinking about it from any perspective). The pacing of the show also gradually worsens, with flashback scenes overutilised repeatedly.

It's not terrible and some will enjoy it for sure, but the story didn't live up to it's potential.

Good Enough
PennyReviews21 August 2023
Korean Drama " See You in my Nineteenth Life " is a fantasy melodrama with a cute spin to it.

The drama combined perfectly comedy with a more melodramatic mood when it came to the characters, their past and their struggles.

The story, in addition, is nicely paced, with the romance being enjoyable to watch, though predictable. The side couple were adorable though.

But the highlight of the drama is the main female lead. She was excellent as always and she proved once again that she can transform into any character she is given to flesh out.

However, there were some plotlines that got boring to follow. But the ending was unique.

So, overall, seven out of ten.

SO UNIQUE!
iamsuperk-1231 July 2023
This by far is my most favorite drama this year. A mix of drama, comedy and romance. Not to mention the great cinematography.

I have read the webtoon and although they did a little tweaking, it didn't ruin the plot at all. At first, I was disappointed with the casting especially for the male lead, but he did justice to the role of Seoha. It was so refreshing to see him act a different character vibe from his typical macho roles.

Shin Hyesun is Shin Hyesun. Give her a role and she'll deliver it. You can see that acting is her passion. I am loving her more.

Thumbs up to the child actors. They stole the scene in the beginning episodes specially the one who played the young version of the female lead.

I hope this drama ends well and the casts receive awards for doing a job well done.

Could have been 10 stars
samvit-8925217 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I genuinely loved the idea of reincarnation and binged the show. The story started well and kept me hooked despite a rather slow progression. During the first few episodes the flashbacks of past lives made perfectly sense to understand the connections. However, the same flashbacks being used excessively instead of adding new ones got boring at least on ep. 9, when I started to just skip them as they stopped adding value to the storyline. Also the focus started to overextend on melodrama and unnecessary side plots instead of adding real value or character development. Thus, leaving them out the series could have been wrapped up without loss in 10 episodes making it more enjoyable to watch. This is really really sad, as I loved the acting, cinematography, music, plot... but the flaws mentioned, the last episodes, the rushed wrap-up in the final episode and the illogical ending ruined an otherwise beautiful romance and promising story.

So who's to blame? Unfortunately I don't know the webtoon, so I can't compare. However, many movies fall short when a great book is filmed, as they often don't stick to the original adding new things and leaving out others that were important to the reader. And I suppose the same thing could have happened here, too. Because why on earth would somebody with a brilliant reincarnation story come up with the idea of deleting the memories of the actual life and even the actual job the ML was in, while all the others remember? Makes no sense at all and is actually useless. And why would it be dangerous to remember past lives? That was never explained. In my opinion the danger of getting sick lies not in remembering past lives or past experiences, but on not being able to let hurtful memories go. This would probably have been Mingi's role, but was not developed well.

So: major flaws in the plot, a missed re-watch chance, but beautiful images and acting and lovely romance.

AMAZINGGGGG
botta-7540224 July 2023
I honestly would've given this 10 stars but some of it isn't historically accurate, but other than that it is such a good k drama. It was a roller coaster of emotions for me. And the fact I couldn't predict what was going to happen was the best. Usually in shows I can predict everything but this show was different and I live that about it. The acting at times was a tad cringe, but I found it apart of the character but I could be wrong. I think they could've explained the age gap between Ban Ji Eum and Mun Seo Ha because it was kind of confusing for me at times. Like I knew he was older but... how much older? I felt like the show was rushed towards the end, especially in the last episode. But it was a very different Asian drama compared to the ones I typically watch. I would recommend this show to anybody who loves a dramatic romance with side plots. Overall, it was an amazing tv show and though I would not rewatch it (because it has too long of episodes for my taste) it was amazing.

Beautifully played out
xmasinswiss15 July 2023
Giving it a 10/10 to offset the hate campaign from the Iranian audience. They're apparently mass-giving this show 1s because it mentioned that rakka/rakia/whatever was first distilled in an Arab country.

I mean, Russians and Poles argue over who invented vodka, but you know what? It was the Italians.

The show itself is beautiful. Love the story. The main male lead's acting is a little "wooden" but I can forgive this because of the story. Normally, I'd have given this show an 8/10.

The difficult subject of relationships across multiple lifetimes is handled very well here.

I'm on episode 8 because the others aren't out yet, but wow, what an emotional journey.

Not a good adaptation but a great drama
chloeh5228 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
5/10 for the adaptation 10/10 for the drama if I had memory loss and couldn't remember the WEBTOON.

In terms of an adaptation it falls flat. The biggest thing I praise is Jieums biting and fierce personality which is true to her WEBTOON character. The other characters also fit really well so that's not the issue it's the story that I was more upset with. I totally understand creative liberties and putting page to screen but the webtoon was one of my favorites so it was disappointing to see it changed so much. It started off strong with the events of the source material very true to the original but diverged with the introduction of Min-gi. In the webtoon he is not as prevalent and his role really changes the plot completely. Plus they completely changed their "past-lives" and erased the specific connections that were laid out in the WEBTOON. In terms of the ending, ***Major spoilers***

I also did not like it because the ending in the webtoon had jieum was able to retain her memory and relationships of the people around her but forgot her past lives. I think this change was unnecessary but it became necessary because of the new plot issue. I'm a little fuzzy on the details as it's been a while since I read the webtoon but the way she's "keeping people from her past" around her is completely different and if I recall correctly it won't harm them but her in the long run (could be wrong but I just know that the drama changed it). I also don't love the ending because it kind of erases jieums amazing personality which is a breath of fresh air from a shy FL. She's upfront and blunt and thats why I love her character so to see that essentially erased was hard to watch.

Also as I talked about before Min-gis presence completely ruined the experience for me. Their relationship was completely different in the webtoon and I just didn't like it.

TLDR I didn't love how they changed the plot when the source material was so beloved and well done. Though as a drama I think it was excellent, romantic, well acted and had great characters.

Touching
blebbe25 July 2023
My favorite thing about this series is its plot. Not only is it something I haven't seen before, but it's also creative and heart-warming. The multiple stories we get to see are just so wonderful. Every story is thought out and touching. I will say that this series was slightly slow at some points, I also wish we could have seen even more of the 19 lives.

There is also just the perfect amount of characters to follow and fall in love with. And the actors do a great job, especially Shin Hye-sun, who manages to show such raw emotion in her delivery.

The cinematography in this series is also phenomenal.
