"What the f planet do you guys live on?"
daisukereds18 August 2023
I watched for Lucy Hale.

Grant got really big and I barely recognized him from the Flash! And while he was given a fidgety character, he is somehow charming in it and makes it work. Overall, no part is annoying (though parts are right on the line of weirdly fun and skippable, like the ASMR restaurant or the "Doggie Lamaze" scenes), is decently written, properly executed and well shot! Though some stuff feels superficial.. Additionally, the rest of the cast is quite likeable and some of the characters are even fun.

Overall, a watchable romance story with lots of dog-themed scenes that help a couple get together.. when they would otherwise not even have the chance. Pets work, people! Pets work.

Watchable
rohitian15 September 2023
A contrivance, but really lovely. Both leads leaned in to their characters' idiosyncrasies, and the story took its time. It's what you want it to be, has an indie feel, and a really great pace. I laughed pretty hard a couple times. If you like rom coms or dogs or just need an escape, I recommend it. (It's making me write more...). Well, I suppose I appreciated the fact that the characters were believable, and the story dealt with relatable issues, like depression, and anxiety and how difficult it can be to step out of your comfort zone or make friends when you're an adult. I hope the folks involved get more work when the SAG AGTRA strike is resolved. Ok, I've written enough.

Lovely, funny movie
nunosantos000015 October 2023
I felt good watching this movie, I'm not so into rom-coms, but this one I wanted to give a try, because of the dogs . The duo cast was great with good chemistry, the dogs were super cute and it had many laughing moments as well.

The plot was like many we've seen in other movies but was writen nicely and the pace was just on point.

The movies discusses what we encounter in our society today, whay we have to do, to get out of comfort zone and the many aspects of our life when we make the responsible decision to adopt dogs and what it brings along with it.

I recommend this movie for anyone who's looking to have a fun time, on date night or chill afternoon etc.

7 stars out of 10 for me.

Doggy ... love?
kosmasp1 May 2024
I reckon they could not use a different title - it would not be the right ... style! No puns intended here as always. And this is supposed to be a romantic movie - and it is actually. Lucy Hale seems to be right for these kinds of movies and roles. She really is sweet, beautiful and talented enough to carry those movies.

Of course the scripts have to be at least good. And the movies I've seen with her - well she chose wisely I reckon. Of course you have to like these types of movies - makes no sense watching this, if you don't like ... well if you have to watch it, because your partner is into it ... that's a different story. Still try to enjoy it. It's light and fun - and yes predictable ... that never is really an issue here ... add some dogs and you get some more love out of it.

Very funny
deniseemmens28 April 2024
This film is actually funny. A lot of romcoms I find funny like in: It puts a smile on my face. But in this film i had a few genuine laughs. The whole pharmacy scene was great. I see Some people saying it has too much foul language, but i really don't mind.

The setting, the story is great. Nice that it playes in Seattle. The characters are somewhat believable.

The thing a little bit lacking is chemistry in my opinion. They seemed just very good friends. They could have added Some more tension between them.

The film was a little on the long side.

But overall great watch!

Blablablablaablabla.

I was shocked to see such big actors in this lightweight rom com.
cgvsluis13 September 2023
Lucy Hale is a phenomenal actress and I loved her in The Hating Game, which is how I know she can do romantic comedies. I also love dogs, but this rom-com was kind of a miss for me. I was surprised to see Jane Seymour and Michael Hitchcock in such a lightweight film.

This is the story of Nicole (Lucy Hale), a home stager wannabe artist who is kind of a hot mess. When she sees a stray dog outside of her apartment building, she takes him in...and takes him with her on a first "meet up" with Max, who she met on-line. Max is a germ-o-phobe shut in, who is on the verge of loosing his tech job because he just can't return to the office. These two are like oil and water...except they really aren't. The dogs, however, get along a little too well. When Max's dog ends up pregnant, these two have to put their differences aside in order to get along and be co-grandparents.

The actors were likable, the premise was decent...what really let me down was the writing. This lacked the tension of your typical hate to love (possibly my favorite romantic genre). If you really want to see a good example I recommend checking out The Hating Game, either way... I encourage you to give this a pass unless there is nothing else on.

My final observation, as a Seattle native, is that this film is definitely not set or filmed in Seattle. There are plenty of examples I can cite...the biggest two are that our local health ratings do not have an "A", they are excellent, good, etc. And a visual...that is definitely NOT Discovery Park, we don't have that kind of dessert in Seattle nor does it have a land mass view across the water.

Adorable movie with depth and heart!
dsyoak17 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I found this movie to be a delightful change of pace from what I usually watch. It had depth and heart about two people, working through their insecurities and fears and reluctantly find their pack. I think the premise was good. I thought both actors did a fantastic job it really makes you think how fragile life is. Sometimes the walls we build up around us make us comfortable, but are also holding us back from a better overall life and experience. Like I said, it was surprisingly deep for what initially looked like a 101 Dalmatians type spin off. While predictable, I really do think that this had a great message and presented it well.

Don't listen to the haters!
reggiemiller-590772 September 2023
Don't listen to the haters! The show is fun and sweet. I don't know why people have to be so negative. It's actually probably more like an 8, but I gave it a 10 because of the idiots that gave it very low ratings. A 1 star movie is something that looks like it was made in someones basement or something.

Come on people use some common sense... With all the bad movies out right now this one just really hit the spot and made happy. I smiled the whole time. I really felt the chemistry between these two very talented actors. I hope that the low ratings and negative reviews don't keep you from watching this movie. If you want to feel good then check it out. I highly recommend watching this film.

Sugar sweet with a mix of overacting and cringe
krummepille21 August 2023
Worth noting that this review is biased and Im writing this with all the men in mind that need a reason to not watch this.

Its a movie that is very predictable. The conversations arent genuine, but instead very netflix-sweet. Theres always this happy 'everything is going to be ok' vibe in the air and you barely get any other range of emotions.

Its a sugar sweet movie that is over-the-top and I cannot recommend it to anyone who isnt in love with romance-sugar-sweet movies.

As to the quality of movie ill give it 6/10 as its clearly well made. Theres no doubt its a B movie, but it has all the ingredients to be a well made movie - sadly it just fails in so many apartments.

I love movies that show what the characters are feeling and thinking instead of the characters literally saying it out loud - and this movie is a sinner in that aspect. Everything is being said out loud or narrated.

For the women with a need for a romantic sugar sweet movie - this movie is probably for you - although this feels like it targets the younger audience.

It's cute
ylopez-2379422 August 2023
I like this movie for what it is a cute movie with very cute actors Lucy Hale and Grant Gustin (I think that's his last name) lol. I love the fact that they are both so different from one another. I can definitely relate with Lucy hale (because I am messy disorganized) lol. I love this movie I have seen it several times. Those dogs are ADORABLE!

Grant is just awesome and it's refreshing to see him in other projects other than "The Flash". In which don't get me wrong he is great in it. But it's still cool to see him. Same can go for Lucy Hale even though I have seen her In Other projects aside from "Pretty little liars" I really enjoyed this movie if you want a fun and relaxing time I recommend you watch it.

Good Storyline, Poor Language
dylaneisenbarth21 April 2024
I watched this movie tonight with my wife and it was funny and witty which we like. However, there are so many F bombs that the movie was akward at times and we kept checking to see if the kids were out of their beds watching. I don't understand why they felt the need to add in so many swear words, one or two is ok but there are probably 40 F bombs, a bunch of Jesus Christ's and of course the classic $H/T words throughout. Unfortunately it won't make the rewatch list for us but I'll give it a 6/10.

I would compare the funny and wittiness to the movie "The Hating Game". Both main actors played their parts very well, we hope to see them again in a future movie with a little better language choices. If you can handle the language, then you'll enjoy this movie :)

Absolutely horrible
LukeCustomer22 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This is a movie I struggle to even keep on. First, all of the dialog is entirely made up by the actors. There is no "script" and you can see it. Secondly it drags so badly. 15 minutes can go by without anything really happening. And plot... obvious AI thought this up. No one else would. The two main characters meet for a date and during the date their dogs "do it" and one gets pregnant. So the two main characters have to be around each other. Um ... why? They don't have puppy support.

Then I was looking forward to this for Grant Gustin but OMG, first his character has something wrong with him. He doesn't know that a woman's pregnancy test will not work on a dog? Then what was with his hair? They were trying to make the character a neurotic type by making his hair all greasy. You know, people with social anxiety shower.

Avoid.

Puppies bring them together, will it help them stay together?
TxMike31 March 2024
My wife and I became a Lucy Hale fan in 2018, when she starred in the TV series "Life Sentence". She starred as Stella, who in her teens developed a case of terminal cancer but had to re-imagine her life after she surprisingly became cured.

I became a Grant Gustin fan with his role in "Glee", he is a very talented dancer and singer. Then his lead role in the TV series "The Flash." He does a bit of singing in this movie.

Both Hale and Gustin are very good in their roles. Because the movie is very quirky, it would not have been enjoyable with lesser actors. I found myself thinking "If Seth Rogan and Amy Schumer had played the leads it would have been unwatchable."

Gustin plays Max, he has lots of issues, is a neatness freak, sees a therapist via Zoom, he has low self-confidence and usually prefers being alone in his apartment instead of joining a crowd. His therapist recommends, actually persuading him, to get a dog.

Hale plays Nicole who is pretty much the opposite of Max. One day she sees a dog looking homeless, in the afternoon she sees the same dog, so takes it in.

So the story requires that the two dogs bring the two people together, they immediately dislike each other and how the other lives, but as time goes by each finds things favorable about the other.

My wife watched it streaming on FreeVee on Saturday evening after our weekly steak and red wine dinner, with chocolate cake, of course. Some of this movie is hard to watch, at some points the main characters head so far off the rails. But in the end it is mostly enjoyable and sweet.

It's below average
martinpgibson19 April 2024
The movie was a little too long. I couldn't really understand why someone like Nicole who has great looks and a steady job would just work so hard for Max who was flat out combative with her on their first date and has mental health issues which make him not ready to be dating anyway. That turnaround was not believable to me and the chemistry between them never seemed substantive. I just can't see someone like Nicole tolerating this when there would be literally millions of guys lining up for her.

Also the whole idea of basing the movie around their dogs getting pregnant with each other perhaps acting as an analogy of them having an actual baby together was just weird and overdone. Dogs having a baby is just no big deal, people don't go through a whole mental preparation process, buy paraphernalia and have mother father meetups for the pets mental health and drive recklessly in preparation for a pet birth. I know it's supposed to be fun but I think what makes a romantic comedy good is it's need to have a sense of realism, it shouldn't be a parody, the leads should feel like they are ready for a relationship and are ready for each other. It's because of this, the film just doesn't take off.

Quite sparkly
phd_travel13 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Two dog owners fall in love after her dog impregnates his.

The dialogue is more sharp than some other recent rom coms streaming now. There are some funny moments. In the end didn't quite buy them falling in love after the way he treated her though. He just seemed too eccentric.

Lucy Hale is charming and always watchable. She had a funny personality. Grant Gustin plays an odd ball clean freak. It's refreshing to see an imperfect hero but felt he was not right for a relationship. Didn't like the way he was made to look disheveled and sickly. His vocals were disappointing considering his Glee background. Anyway could such a germophobe actually keep a dog that walks all over the place outside? Evergreen Jane Seymour has a small role as Lucy's mother.

It's an okay watch.

Funny, charming, and down to earth....
PerryAtTheMovies9 May 2024
6.9/10 (7) (Recommend)

When I first saw the poster, and read the description for this film, I did not have high hopes for this film. This film is wholesome despite the language throughout. It makes for a cute date night movie the way it goes.

I think Lucy Hale is alright. She's not a strong actor and that rings true for this film, but what she lacks is made up for by Grant Gustin. They have cute chemistry together and their banter is great.

The story is likeable, and the characters are relatable. For myself, Grant's character Max is relatable to me, and that's what makes this movie work and become enjoyable. While I've started to prefer cats over dogs based on life experiences I will say the dogs are super cute despite lacking some emotional charm.

Watching this film before me my sister had this to say, "This was cute! Puppies were adorable, the banter was great. Really enjoyed it! Felt the runtime was a little long so it was slow at times. But overall I'd watch again! It was nice seeing Grant Gustin in a different role besides The Flash." - 4.5/5

Overall, it's very much an enjoyable film though the make or break factor could be the language for some. The characters are relatable, the puppers are cute, and the story is likeable. It's funny, witty, and charming. While I disagree with the runtime aspect and rating from sister, I agree with all the other points.

That's it for now. Thanks for taking time to read my review. Happy watching and enjoy the show!

feel good, sweet movie
aylareceipts18 August 2023
This was so, so freaking cute. I thought the depiction of anxiety in the guy was accurate, relatable and kinda refreshing for a rom com - I feel like you don't normally see that in rom coms. I am easy to please with movies, especially love stories, so take this review with a grain of salt. But it made me happy and teary and ready to get back on the dating apps again. Some extremely funny lines in the script. The doggos are adorable, especially Chloe but I may be biased because Cavalier spaniels are my fav dog breed. Just an overall very cute watch and Grant Gustin is very handsome too so that helps.

It's reasonably good, but I didn't laugh once
burgerman938 September 2023
As a 30 year old male, I'm watching this for Lucy Hale. She's absolutely breath-taking and never fails a performance. Her character Nicole, promiscuous and selfish, is more believable than Max's character.

Max's social anxiety is a thoughtful trait, but his obsessive compulsive nature sort of is a buzzkill. We can see that Max is a recluse who avoids most human interaction, but was he always like that? We know he suffered a bad break up, but it's far fetch to think that causes a drastic personality change for 2 years. There's a gaping hole in his character development in that sense.

The dogs consummating a relationship was sweet. I just didn't feel the two lead actors had chemistry and their relationship lacked flavor and heart.

To tip the scales here, you needed humor. The veterinarian, Max's boss, the random park goer, and the guy with the accent were not funny at all.

What you want
ben_d_jones-3764620 August 2023
This is a great feel-good film. It ticks all the right boxes. Good solid performances from all of the cast. First time I personally have seen the leads in a film like this, but thought they both were well suited to their roles and have really solid performances. The soundtrack is really fun and if I'm honest I've always got a soft spot for a pooch on the big screen. The film is not trying to reinvent the wheel and do something radical just for the sake of it, which is almost kind of refreshing now. It's one of those films you watch and enjoy and can then revisit in the future and still enjoy it without getting tired of it.

Tone deaf.
jblippman-150-58985431 October 2023
What a stupid premise. Thousand of animals are euthanized every day because people don't spay/neuter their pets. 40 years ago, this might have been a cute meet, but not now. 2 intelligent people neglecting to perform the most basic task of responsible pet ownership is distracting and off putting. I'm not invested in their happiness because I'm turned off by their stupidity.

In a sea of beige rom-coms, this one stands out for all the wrong reasons. Beyond the irritating main characters, there's no reality where these people wouldn't hate each other.

Don't waste your time on this one. It's annoying.

Funny and enjoyable movie - even more so if you're a dog lover!
bdturock3 September 2023
Like the other positive reviews said: what is wrong with people and their negative reviews? This is a sweet and funny movie and we loved it! And we're big dog lovers so we loved it even more. And like the other reviews said, it's probably an 8 but I gave it a 10 to balance out the low numbers from some people. It's just the right mix of rom-com and dog humor and it's an easy watch. I don't know a lot of either actor's work but they both did a great job here. And the story was well written too. Not cardboard characters - real people with real life problems that we all have or deal with. Watch it and enjoy!

Surprised about others reviews
jonathanhogue-2913512 November 2023
I dont think this a likeable film. I watched because I typically adore films with pups, because I love my dog, but this didn't do it for me. The characters are equally annoying. I'm surprised to see how many people loved it. Not my kind of rom com, I guess. I'm happy others found joy in it though. They obviously worked hard on the project, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. It has moments that are indeed "cute," as others have said, but the annoying outweighs the positive. I'm normally pretty easy to please. Not a movie buff by any means, but definitely a connoisseur and out of sheer "not wanting to be rude" because people worked hard on it, I gave it a 5-star review. Otherwise, I'd give it less.

I just love a good Rom Com
FilmloverOC20 August 2023
To put it simply- This is a well executed Romcom. Soundtrack is awesome. Lucy and Grant are super sweet together. What's not to like?? It's an easy watch. I'd honestly watch it again. They could tone down the language a bit. But that's about it. The acting overall is great. I laughed out loud a few times. Great to see Jane Seymour in something again! Also if you are a dog person at all... you will love love love this movie. Makes me love Grant and Lucy more seeing how cute they are with the dogs. Fan girl here. I also enjoyed a lot of the dog observations. As a dog owner they did great! Give it a watch.

annoying people
SnoopyStyle16 September 2023
Nicole Matthew (Lucy Hale) and Max Stevenson (Grant Gustin) have a disastrous first date although their dogs really hit it off. They hit it so off that puppies are in their future. Max is struggling to reintegrate after COVID. Nicole is hopping from one non-relationship to the next. Their mutual hatred is overcome by their mutual love of their dogs.

I should have stopped when I first noticed Buzzfeed Studios. Wow! I really found these people annoying. Whatever is a meet-cute, this is the opposite. Even the cute dogs are corrupted by bad jokes. The premise doesn't hold that much water. The chemistry slowly improves but the movie isn't saved. At least, it's not bland.
